It just seems best to purchase these expensive Apple products directly from Apple.

Just depends on what you’re getting and how decided you are that you won’t return it. You can get some good discounts on amazon especially credit card offers such as Amex.

In my city most Amazon purchases are delivered by Amazon couriers. Even if Amazon uses some other courier and it gets delivered to the wrong address, a quick phone call to Amazon CS gets the issue resolved very fast. So it looks like you are spreading incorrect assumptions rather than facts here...
In my town Amazon courier service has been a hot mess so far. I will be expecting a very simple delivery from something that apparently came from the next state or even within my own state and suddenly I get a notice it could not be delivered and sometimes it takes days for this mystery snafu to be solved and for my item to arrive. A couple of times it didn’t and I had to contact Amazon. Sometimes they send you a picture of the item after it’s delivered. Sometimes they don’t. Sometime it says delivered to customer or delivered to front porch and I go to find it thrown in the bushes at the end of my driveway. Talk about a lie!

But it is improving slowly. Last holiday season was a disaster for myself and everyone I know. My friend bought me Christmas gifts from Amazon and couldn’t give them to me until a little past New Year’s Day. That’s how long they took to arrive.

So...I will wait and see how this all works out for people. I would start small with something like an accessory.

I join others in thinking this move is a sign Apple isn’t moving merchandise at the levels they need to. Which is unfortunate, as I love the new Xr and think it’s a wonderful phone. But Apple is charging way too much and withholding the small things that engender customer good will and make people feel like they’re getting a good value for these rising prices. Things like dongles and the better chargers.

Wasn't there something in the news a few years ago about Amazon recycling returned purchases, like pants, dresses, suit jackets, shoes, books, toys, etc cleaning them up and selling them again as "new" with no one the wiser until an employee blew the whistle on the practice?

Something might be rotten in the state of Denmark here...

Great move by them, have Amazon be the one stop shop for everything

Hopefully Prime shipping is available

Can't wait to buy a car, washer and dryer, adopt a baby, renew my driver's license, through Amazon. Now that would definitely be a ONE STOP SHOP FOR EVERYTHING. :D

I do agree it's a great move for them to offer even more variety.

Sounds like this is more about controlling who are selling Apple products, for how much, and whether the products are legitimate Apple products.

Edit: I'm probably stating the obvious. :p

Certain Apple products will not be included on Amazon's site, such as the HomePod, which directly competes with Amazon's line of Echo devices.

I'm guessing this means they will only sell Apple flagship devices, since for example the lower-end iPad could be seen as competing with the Fire HD, or iPhone 8's could, by a stretch, compete with that Blue phone (I think it's called)?

Does Amazon actually ban selling competing devices by policy? (i.e. can an independent Amazon seller sell a Google Home or a HomePod on Amazon?) I'd imagine Fulfilled by Amazon would be out, but is it actually completely forbidden?

It seems one has to decide, before purchase, if they're open to the option of returning an Apple product to determine if they should make the purchase. Seems to perhaps fit a peg into a circle. I've purchased many many things from Amazon but something like a new phone, would be a bit much for me. But to each their own.

I don't really get discount offers but i do get multiple point per dollar offers on my Amex to purchase through Amazon.

I can sense how bad these apple products are selling
Apple deserves it though. Let’s be real.. they are so greedy.

The cables they throw in are trash, they are charging so much money for phones, iPads, etc.. they sell laptops with 480p front facing webcams, had 5 year old outdated hardware in their lineup up until last week... they are such money grabbers. If anything - the market has spoken and it’s Apple’s fault for not having the foresight on these upcoming products/pricing models.

"With the new agreement, Apple devices will be available at regular retail prices."

What's the point!?
Prime shipping + 5% back on my Amazon card. Win.

I'm a bit torn. I like open access to markets but I also am wary about sketchy third party sellers. I know they have the reputation system but it strikes me there has to be a better way to accomplish this. I don't have any ideas on what that better way may be though.
Um easy. Only buy an Apple device from Amazon when it says Shipped And Sold By Amazon.

Even with 5% back from CCs, I'd still buy from Apple for things like the iPhone. I just went through multiple iPhone returns through Apple because of defects. Apple gives you 1-day free shipping, two-day free return shipping (or bring it into a store) and no restocking fee regardless of the reason. Amazon is not bad for returns but a little money saved isn't really worth it. Even if it's prime, it's possible to get bad batches of the products they carry in the Amazon system if you understand how their fulfillment works.

I'd begrudgingly fork over $1300 to Apple directly over buying it through Amazon just because of the return policy and dealing with mixed stock.

I wasn't clear but that's what I'm torn about. I don't necessarily like that independent resellers will be removed unless they become official Apple partners. Plus side is we don't have (as much) sketchiness but the down side is I think small sellers need access to major marketplaces like this.

The third party resellers on amazon are not authorized by Apple to sell their products. It’s basically a marketplace to traffic Apple products purchased with stolen iTunes cards.

Jeez, was it difficult to find a place to buy an Apple phone?

With the recent Supreme Court decision on sales taxes, Amazon really has nothing to offer here over and above Apple's online sales, their stores, and other outlets like Best Buy.

I hope this means they will get rid of all the fake accessories by having only apple authorised dealers selling original apple accessories.

Good point. Though most places give free shipping now, I guess the Amazon card 5% discount is good (though I wouldn't be surprised if there are exclusions specific to large name brands like Apple, Bose, etc.).

Looked up details on an Amazon card. Just says exclusions apply with no specific details and it's got a pretty poor favorable rating (only 63%).

I have had no problems with my Chase Amazon card. It’s been great and the cash back really stacks up.. but then again I am someone that does all of my shopping on Amazon.. If you’re someone that pays all of your bills on time you shouldn’t have any difficulties. I pay off all of my credit cards every month because.. well who wants credit card debt on a high interest card. The only thing that ever carries a balance with me is any 0% card that I have - such as my iPad Pro on my Best Buy card.

Here in the UAE Souq.com (recently acquired by Amazon) already sells Apple products since ages, sometimes at an amazing price.

For instance yesterday I came across this unbelievable offer.

Massive discount with respect to the local Apple store, just few weeks after the launch to the market.

Just as reference the price shown by Souq.com it’s equivalent to 1,331 USD while the one shown at the local Apple store website is equivalent to 1,668 USD.

I don’t know whether we will see such kind of aggressive pricing on Amazon.com but here in UAE people are used to grab big deals on Apple products on this Amazon group website.
