Good. Hopefully this means an end to counterfeit Apple products on Amazon that end up catching people on fire. As a bonus I can use my 5% Prime cash back to buy Apple stuff!

I was thinking the same thing. Apple Products are becoming $1,000+ 5% cash back with their credit card would be great. As long as we can preorder new Apple Devices on Amazon it is a win-win-win.

' your amazon package has been left with a neighbour' yes because that what I want order a £1500 phone.

I'd rather buy from store or Apple online with courier delivery.

In my city most Amazon purchases are delivered by Amazon couriers. Even if Amazon uses some other courier and it gets delivered to the wrong address, a quick phone call to Amazon CS gets the issue resolved very fast. So it looks like you are spreading incorrect assumptions rather than facts here...

Does Apple need the extra distribution from Amazon? No.

The Verge: Amazon still sells counterfeit goods despite efforts to clean up

What Apple needs is for Amazon to reduce the sales of counterfeit goods.

Apple is facing a brand problem and Amazon was facing a lawsuit from Apple. I would say this new agreement is something that both Amazon and Apple grudgingly agreed to do as it was the most logical solution. Amazon will have fewer Marketplace sellers to earn income from. Apple will have less control and leverage with Amazon over its product distribution.

Since best buy price matches amazon, I think this would help them, although they'll lose some business.
Maybe in store. Online, no, Best Buy doesn't do online well. Amazon pretty much automatically does price matching real time.

Its a loss for consumers who like to buy used (or also new from anyone reselling) on Amazon, the competition will be heavily cut do to the 3rd party small reseller ban.
As they should. Third party selling on alAmazon is unreliable.

For me there's something unusual from this deal. I used to remember Apple demands a deal like this, like you wanna sell my product I need to get something from you not you getting something from me. Somehow to get a deal like this shows who has the bargaining power and who demands the deal. It's look like a desperate call for a desperate time but somehow they gotta do what they gotta do to squeeze something out from somewhere.

Why not just use the Apple app? Super fast and easy.

Pre ordered for the first time this September. Had the app going but decided to order with my computer since the major reason I decided to buy a new phone was because my iPhone 6 Plus had started not responding to screen touches. So I thought that the website was safer. I used safari and had no trouble placing my order. But I probably could have just gone to the nearest Apple store on release day and gotten the phone as well. I did get the Apple Watch that way and at midday there were still Xs and Xs Max’s available.

Shame they can’t reach a deal to make Amazon Prime Video reliably offer 5.1 audio on Apple TV. Mind you it’s only been around since 1976. Little wonder Amazon are still ironing the bugs out.

Both have made me a lot of $$$ in my portfolio. I just wish Apple had the same excellent customer service as Amazon.

This iPhone XS still isn't performing like it should on LTE. Apple Support has made wish I didn't "upgrade" from 6S.

I have been able to go Bestbuy and bring a print out of something from Amazon. And they price match it for me. But i never been able for Amazon to have Amazon price match anyone. No matter who, or what source it was from. They always point to their no price match policy when i tried.

Unless they are (decently) cheaper, which I doubt they will be, I'd sooner buy direct from Apple.

Free shipping via Prime!
People who don't live near a store can save a ton on shipping.

Well, I think this will do that.
To sell "Apple" branded items you will need to be an authorized Apple reseller.
This will be controlled by Apple. No Apple authorization, no sales on Amazon.

This gives Apple huge leverage on counterfeit goods.
It gives Amazon huge leverage in the retail market to be able to sell Apple goods.

There's always eBay. My choice for inexpensive Apple products is Apple's own Refurbished page. There are often some really good deals there on recent products, and you can be certain that they're all in great shape and fully warrantied.

Independent sellers who offer new and used Apple products on Amazon will have their listings removed after January 4, 2019, under the new deal. Those sellers will need to apply to become Apple authorized resellers on Amazon to continue to offer their wares.
While that sort of assures that you'll get decent Apple products, it might also greatly reduce the number of people who want to sell Apple products but don't want to become "authorized".

You can call for price match with Best Buy online, although since it’s a Best Buy within a couple miles of f the places I’m generally around. I can only remember using online price match once. When an item wasn’t in stock locally.

the point is that Amazon will get retail margin and Apple will get a new and huge online distributor

Just my opinion here, but Apple is a bigger brand then Amazon. If someone wanted an Apple product, they'd get it via the existing retail sources. I don't see a benefit to Apple here unless the margin is close to zero. Feels like this could potentially take away from their apple.com sales (where they don't have to give up any margins to a 3rd party).

Great move by them, have Amazon be the one stop shop for everything
That's what Bezos and crew want. They want to be the last retailer standing. They will dictate the price of everything and decide what companies survive or go to the wall as there is no outlet for their products.
Use Amazon by all means but just remember what their end game is.

I was just on Amazon yesterday wondering why they don't sell Apple products.

There are a lot of reasons why this deal is good for Amazon, Apple and the Customer.
  • Not everyone has an Apple Store nearby.
  • Some people prefer doing all their shopping at one place.
  • Some get extra perks and points because of loyalty programs and CC points.
  • Amazon has a different return policy.
  • Gets rid of the shady and iffy third party sellers and their used/gray market gear.

That's good because trying to order an iPhone on Apple's website always crashes Safari (or any browser) on my phone. I can't order one from my iPhone (but I can order a Mac). Way to go apple.

I've never tried to order through the website but the Apple Store App.. I've ordered two IPs, wireless charger, AW (though cancelled), and Apple Care -- all within the last 2 months and no crashes. Does very well.

Just an FYI, Chase Bank has an Amazon Visa that gets you points on ALL your purchases made with it. Including those made at Apple stores.

*Read the fine print for how points are assessed. Some items carry more value in points than other's. This is typical of all rewards cards.

But thanks for the tips and tricks on how to game the system. I particularly like the buying Amazon gift cards from Kroeger. You can save some serious money on gas with those points. Sometimes up to a $1.00 off per gallon.

Apple's return policy is 14 days while Amazon is a generous 30 days. Will that be the case with Apple products as well? May be a better buy through Amazon if you're not sure on a product...

I seldom return to amazon. They can decide to delete you anytime and then bye bye kindle purchases.

Which one relented ???

If AAPL, then it's probably a sign Sales of their new iPhones aren't doing so well.

If AMZN, then it's probably a sign they don't see AAPL as much of a competitor anymore.

Either way, it appears to be more of a win for AMZN.

AAPL gains additional visibility, but that's NOT their main issue, poor product planning is.

Where is the $649 USD 5" LCD A12 / 4 GB / Hardware Home Button + Touch ID "iPhone LS," where LS = "Legacy Sport" ???

When a guy with a Hardware Manufacturing Operations background makes ALL the key decisions, one obviously needs to set their Expectations very low ! ... AAPL's Board got what they deserve ! ... they made the Call !
