I cancelled prime after they started charging for ad free streaming. Their shipping speed has been slipping more and more over the last few years and half of the items are no longer available for two day shipping anyways. Looks like I made the right decision.
This must depend on where you live because I rarely see shipping times more than a single day and at least half of the stuff I order has same day delivery.

This, on the same day they get a class action for jacking the prices up. First they got sued, now they should get Susan’d.

As irritating as this is, it actually solves a problem for me. The Prime Video app on Apple TV is so janky that it seemed to be up to chance whether it’d serve the Dolby Vision stream, even when it’s known the show has DV. Now, no more driving myself crazy trying to work out if I should be seeing DV - it’ll just be plain HDR10.

And this is precisely why we ruthlessly cancel these garbage streaming services once a special/coupon rate expires.

What a wonderful business plan: degrade your service and purposefully sabotage the consumer experience. No wonder video games, OTA, torrents, and other forms of media delivery absolutely trounce these garbage streamers. I say again, garbage.

This is just low...
It would have been more honest if Prime kept all the benefits and just increased the price...
With all the services becoming more expensive, we eventually would have accepted it.
Like this though...

I guess the next step is to start tying people into 12 month contracts to stop the people who subscribe for a month to binge the latest shows and then move on to the next service.

And then 18 month contracts...

I stopped watching prime video when they announced that the ads were starting at the end January. Then I found out Amazon isn't starting ads in my country until mid 2024 supposedly, unfortunatelyI got used to living without prime video so Amazon can take prime video plus ads and shove it.

There should be a class action. People need to let them know that these rug pull changes to a service they were sold on are not acceptable. We let them get away with the ads, and they haven’t stopped. Give them an inch and they’ll take a mile.

I do believe it is an issue for people that have already paid since you pay a year in advance.

Amazon Prime Video content no longer includes Dolby Vision HDR or Dolby Atmos surround sound on its ads-supported tier, which is included in all Amazon Prime memberships.

The news was first reported by German website 4KFilme and picked up by The Verge. Instead of the higher fidelity options previously enjoyed for no additional fee, Prime Video is streaming in HDR10 with Dolby Digital 5.1.

That is, unless you pay $2.99 extra for Prime Video's ad-free service, in which case you can retain the higher quality audio experience. The change was confirmed to The Verge by Amazon.

"Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos capabilities are only available on the ad free option, on relevant titles," said an Amazon spokesperson.

Most Prime Video viewers will be Amazon Prime members, which costs $14.99 per month, or $139 per year if you pay annually. Prime Video is also available as a $9.99-per-month standalone subscription, or $12.99-per-month if you add on the Dolby Vision HDR or Dolby Atmos surround sound surcharge. Ads were introduced across basic Prime Video subscriptions in the United States on January 29.

For comparison, Disney+ costs $9.99 with ads, while Netflix can be had for $6.99 per month with ads, although content is streamed in 1080p. Meanwhile, an Apple TV+ membership costs £9.99, up from the previous $6.99. Apple introduced the increase on October 25, but there are no limits on streaming quality.

I'm going to strongly consider if its worth me even subscribing to prime any more..at least for the annual one? their once great prime music is a waste of time and now they hobbling their video service..

I don't want that many prime shows and prime delivery is more useful at Christmas, might just cancel them and subscribing a month here and there, when there a few shows that I do watch have built up.. I do the same with Apple TV+

We all need to take advantage of the ability to drop in and out..

When my annual disney and netflix are up I'm just going to drop down to ad supported..

These services are really taking the mickey.. and we need to vote with our feet!

Physical media is alive and well, and actually growing.

Get a 4K Blu-ray player and a whole new world opens up. A world of better quality that you actually OWN.
That’s quite true. Netflix streams at worst bitrates at 4K than a physical disk with 1080p resolution. Heck even worse if you stream non netflix owned movies it streams at 480p in a browser. Imagine 480p in 2024.

While I don't like the changes, they never promised ad free all th time, as I recall. I don't see any basis for a class action.

With all these stupid changes and jacking up the prices sailing the high seas will be making a big comeback at this rate. For a start there shouldn't even be an ad paid tier from any company, that alone is disgusting.

My guess is growth has slowed so now they are looking for new ways to grow revenue. Wait until Prime+ featuring 2 day shipping rolls out next year...

The issue I have is paying yearly in advance and them removing features. The changes should have started for monthly payers the next month and for yearly payers the next year.

I agree, though I'm guessing that's why the introduce the Freeview service and kept some stuff ad free.

They dis on an a la carte basis, so you can pay more you just don't have to. Had they just jacked up the price people would whine about that.

Personally, the ads are annoying as hell. I just started rewatching Bosch and every time an add comes on it pisses me off.

I use Amazon to ship often enough so it's still worth it but Amazon TV has jumped the shark for me.
