Stop blaming Amazon, NetFlix, Disney for price hikes/removing of features. They know exactly what they're doing since they got all the relevant data. And the data shows that people either dont care about stuff like this, dont even know about, or don't need it. These providers are just adapting to their users needs.
This. I have Amazon Prime and rarely watch the shows and movies because frankly they suck outside of some rare exceptions like Invincible. I also had no clue they were streaming things in Dolby Atmos until I saw this article with folks raging. I honestly could care less as I'm not going Ad-Free and I care more about 2-day delivery than the C-List movies made by SYFY.

And for everyone claiming “that’s wrong”, “misleading”, “sue them”, why would any service offer more for less? Why not jack their prices? Everyone seems to have disposable income. Patreon, OnlyFans, YouTube Plus, Apple TV, Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, and the list goes on and on, are raking up customers every day. Sure still all more affordable than a $200/mo DirecTV subscription (w/out extras such as HBO and MGM) but that’s the new norm. Prices go up, a handful people complain, but way many others will gladly pay to binge watch one series and not use the service for the next 11 months in the year.

People want change? People need to change. Stop subscribing, to begin with.
👆This post right here is the best and the only way to stop this craziness. Until people vote with their wallets and stop paying no company is goin to stop trying to squeeze as much money as possible. I bet that if a few million people stop paying they would take notice.

Unfortunately, people have been so molded to a point that if they don't have this or that they're going to die.

Yes, when it comes to the raising of prices, voting with your wallet makes sense. However what Amazon is doing here is different because a lot of people have an annual membership with Prime and the yanking of 4K and adding of commercials for the service you've pre-paid for is easily out of bounds and should result in a lawsuit.

I can't think of another product you can buy and then the store can come over to your house and take a couple of its accessories away from you and say you can have them back for an additional fee. Nope, that isn't a vote with your wallet situation, that's a nail them for bait-and-switch situation.

This definitely sucks, but I would care a lot more if you could actually play their HDR content anywhere. My TV will - and that's it. My MBP and iPhone both have gorgeous HDR screens and I'm stuck with ****** 1080p from Prime on those devices.

I'm happy to see many comments saying companies will keep charging as long as people keep paying. This applies to every category of inflation. Complain by closing your wallet when companies are gouging. Over the last few years, I've seen everyone complaining and hardly any doing anything about it.

I cancelled prime after they started charging for ad free streaming. Their shipping speed has been slipping more and more over the last few years and half of the items are no longer available for two day shipping anyways. Looks like I made the right decision.
Yep. I did the same. I'm going back to my alternative means of obtaining content because these platforms have gone absolutely insane.

Cowards for not actually saying this on their website!

Edit: As annoying as price increases are this is just the reality with maturing businesses. My biggest issue is that they never mentioned losing Dolby Vision/Atmos in the email about the new fee. If they are going to add a new charge, at least be upfront about what you are paying for. Instead they waited until someone "noticed" and made an article about it. This is what makes me the most mad.
Amazon is not a "maturing business". lol

Consequences of supporting Hollyweird. Haven’t been to the movies since Star Wars Rise of Skywalker. Sling is all I need for A&E and others. Don’t need Prime just plan ahead and spend the $35 or more to get free shipping. First world problems if you need it in two days

As irritating as this is, it actually solves a problem for me. The Prime Video app on Apple TV is so janky that it seemed to be up to chance whether it’d serve the Dolby Vision stream, even when it’s known the show has DV. Now, no more driving myself crazy trying to work out if I should be seeing DV - it’ll just be plain HDR10.
That's like rejoicing that a store doesn't allow returns because you don't have to grapple with keeping something or not.

There should be a class action. People need to let them know that these rug pull changes to a service they were sold on are not acceptable. We let them get away with the ads, and they haven’t stopped. Give them an inch and they’ll take a mile.
Normally I'd agree with you but we're talking completely free vs. $3 on top of Prime. They are giving you time to unsubscribe before changes as well.

What we need is a service that unsubscribes you from everything until you decide to watch something, then subscribes for one month.

While I don't like the changes, they never promised ad free all th time, as I recall. I don't see any basis for a class action.

My guess is growth has slowed so now they are looking for new ways to grow revenue. Wait until Prime+ featuring 2 day shipping rolls out next year...

I agree, though I'm guessing that's why the introduce the Freeview service and kept some stuff ad free.

They dis on an a la carte basis, so you can pay more you just don't have to. Had they just jacked up the price people would whine about that.

Personally, the ads are annoying as hell. I just started rewatching Bosch and every time an add comes on it pisses me off.

I use Amazon to ship often enough so it's still worth it but Amazon TV has jumped the shark for me.
Same.
I keep the prime because it makes sense with the shipping.

So now the consumer is having to pay for that piece of sh*t flop, Rings of Power. Thanks Amazon for giving us something no one asked for and making us pay for it.

I mean, you can cancel… I honestly don’t see any legal grounds for a class action.

If they decide to “take a mile”, you can stop being their customer.
