Physical media is alive and well, and actually growing.

Get a 4K Blu-ray player and a whole new world opens up. A world of better quality that you actually OWN.

I wish it was this simple ... I bought two 4K BluRays last year and they don't play on my 4K supporting BluRay Player because the DRM requires an update apparently, which the BluRay Player maker apparently still has not rolled out. I also bought something as basic as some cartoons (Asterix) on BluRay and they refuse to play on my Xbox One as well!

And for everyone claiming “that’s wrong”, “misleading”, “sue them”, why would any service offer more for less? Why not jack their prices? Everyone seems to have disposable income. Patreon, OnlyFans, YouTube Plus, Apple TV, Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, and the list goes on and on, are raking up customers every day. Sure still all more affordable than a $200/mo DirecTV subscription (w/out extras such as HBO and MGM) but that’s the new norm. Prices go up, a handful people complain, but way many others will gladly pay to binge watch one series and not use the service for the next 11 months in the year.

People want change? People need to change. Stop subscribing, to begin with.
Right, how dare people complain against a company charging more for a worse than before service.

I cancelled my membership as soon as they announced this. I bought a Fire Stick and installed Kodi so I can access the stuff I'm missing. I may go back because I use Amazon all the time, but Walmart+ is cheaper and the prices of the stuff they sell is cheaper. Has anyone ever had success with Walmart+? I believe it also comes with Paramount+?

Not a substitute for streaming if that's what your saying. Physical media is great for my most favorite movies to experience in the best possible quality, but by far, the majority of what I've watched (and even really enjoyed) I don't care to own.

You mean Kodi so you can pirate and watch the stuff you're missing? ;)

Walmart+ is no substitute for Prime. I have both and W+ is convenient at times, but Amazon has, by far, a better selection of stuff.

I subscribe to Amazon Prime for the "free" shipping, not for Prime Video. I barely watch Prime Video. I don't like that they've started inserting ads and that they've made this change relating to Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, but I'm not going to give them an extra $40 a year to get rid of the ads and to bring back Dolby. For me personally, it's just a big meh.

That said, if I WAS paying for Amazon Prime specifically for Prime Video, I'd be outraged and I WOULD cancel my subscription. This is a BS move by Amazon.

PS: Buy physical media, so that they can't do stuff like this to you.

I doubt many content users have the hardware capable of Dolby Vision HDR or Dolby Atmos surround sound because it would appear many of those users are using laptops/tablet devices that do not have the capable hardware. Every time the issue of video streaming comes up in this forum you will notice there are many posts from members who subscribe to content streaming services saying they watch it on a laptop or a tablet device. I therefore do not see why Amazon should stream Dolby Vision HDR or Dolby Atmos surround sound to everyone if not everyone is using it. It makes more sense to have it as an optional extra for those that do have the capable hardware.

There should be a class action. People need to let them know that these rug pull changes to a service they were sold on are not acceptable. We let them get away with the ads, and they haven’t stopped. Give them an inch and they’ll take a mile.
The answer is simple. Stop subscribing to these video services. Most shows they put out are garbage anyway. For the few shows worth watching, you can binge watch everything you need in a month. The rest of the year, there is more than enough free content on services like Pluto, Tubi, Crackle, etc. and for just $100 (one time purchase), you can get over 100 OTA channels via Tablo.

This is Ridiculous, I paid for a year of prime in December and then they added ads. how is that even legal? Probably the fine print that is a mile long. They also used to guarantee 2-day shipping. now they just give excuses.

Do other ad supported tiers do HDR and Atmos? Wouldn't shifting it on and off for ads cause some TVs/Soundbars to go blank/mute during the shift?

Amazon: such an innovative company that they are recreating the terrestrial television experience from the 1980's (with an added layer of surveillance capitalism).

Amazon isn't taking away "innovation" as they still offers an ad-free, higher audio quality option. You just have to pay a bit more for it. Lots of other streaming services have ad-supported plans including Disney+. Hulu, Max, Netflix, etc. Subscribers have a choice.

Today's ad-free plans are also much cheaper (adjusting for inflation) than what premium channels could cost back in the 1980s. For example, ad-free Max is $15.99/month while HBO with less content, no on-demand functionality, etc. 40 years ago was around twice that after adjusting for inflation.

Well, this sucks. I’ve enjoyed Prime Video and tolerated the commercials at the beginning. If the quality isn’t there any longer, just won’t watch it.

People seem to think businesses have to do whatever they want them to do. That just isn’t the case. Something like this isn’t “class action” worthy.

From what I’ve read, streamers haven’t been making the money they need to make to keep going. SO they have to try things - what will the public tolerate? IF people would stop acting the fool and just stop using the services, the business will know and adjust from there. They either backtrack, or get out.

Where did you get that statistic from. There are many out there that have full AV setups with 55 to 100 inch TV's that support both.

What Dolby Vision on Amazon?! I haven’t seen a single title in Dolby Vision there, it has always been just regular HDR with them. So nothing has changed then lol

There is one for adding ads for people who paid for a year of Prime.

The question is what % of Prime users have such a setup? Even where I live most people can afford it but do't have it because, well, they just want to watch TV.

The odd thing about Only Fans as it started as a site for musicians, etc. to reach fans and make some money. As with all tech, teh adult industry soon co opted it.
