Amazon to Cease Selling Apple TV, Google Chromecast Over 'Prime Video' Incompatibility

Are they also not selling smartTVs that don't support Prime Video? Not selling phones that don't support Prime Video? Not selling BR-Players that don't support Prime Video? Not selling DVRs that don't support Prime Video?

Bad examples. Those devices aren't one trick ponies. They do other things beside stream video. In fact, streaming video might not be a big selling point on those devices. I certainly don't consider video streaming an important feature on a phone or Blu-Ray player or DVR.

I get why Amazon won't support Apple (Apple is anti-competitive when it comes to services they already offer and they wouldn't allow customers to to buy from Amazon without trying to gouge them). But why won't Amazon support Chromecast? Google allows their customers to buy kindle books from Amazon without charge. And I was able to add an Amazon app store easily without rooting. They're not anti-competitive like Apple. So why no support? I want to be able to stream music and audiobooks on my tv.

Your posts are beyond predictable dumas. Apple does the very same thing, try buying an android phone there. Does Apple sell amazon's device. It doesn't bother me a bit that Amazon does the same thing and it will hurt neither. It's hard to tell if your posts are serious or not they are so ridiculous.

I don't want to buy an iPhone from Google or an Android phone from Apple etc. but I do want to buy whatever I want from the cyber mall called Amazon...

Apple doesn't need Amazon. That's just a fact.
And Amazon doesn't need Apple. That's a fact too!

I am an Amazon Prime whore and will continue to order from Amazon. This affects me in no way at all. Apple needs to stop being stubborn and allow Prime on their devices.

Better solution: Amazon should release a Prime Video app for the new Apple TV.

This only means Apple users will buy their devices elsewhere and be less likely to subscribe to Amazon Prime.

Yes, it is bizarre b/c Amazon already has Prime book, music & video iOS apps, so really no effort to port those to ATV. Seems like Amazon is putting up a straw man excuse to no sell ATV. But why? Are TOS to have an ATV app that much more restrictive than regular iOS apps?

Ultimately I'll still keep Prime b/c I don't have it for the media. It's just a bonus. I have an Amazon stick for the TV & ATV2 & 3. Not planning on buying a 4 or upgrading my Amazon just yet but wouldn't hesitate to for either for killer features.

Is it? If Google and Amazon would ban all Amazon apps from their app stores Amazon would certainly feel it especially since more and more people buy products on mobile devices/tablets.
It's not like that without the app you cannot point the browser to Amazon.com. How did we live without apps i really wonder!!!!

This is abusive. Amazon will lose a lot of very loyal Apple customers as a result of this. I know I'll never buy another thing from Amazon now they've decided to try and hurt sales of the Apple TV. I hope hundreds of millions of other people take a similar stand.

Hardly abusive. Just petty. I love their excuse about "so customers won't be confused". Huh? Yeah, I bet that's a really big problem, people buying a Chromecast or Amazon box and assuming that because they bought it on Amazon, it will have Amazon prime on it. Ha. Amazon is so full of bull****.

does it say anywhere that everything must be available in this so called cyber mall?

but anyway i think its a pathetic decision. something we have come to accept from apple but these companies are obviously drawing lines in the sand and willing to make things harder for customers.

Amazon is being petty. I have used Amazon Video on my AppleTV via AirPlay. It works. Just. Fine.

I suppose it's ok when Apple stops selling certain items in their stores? Businesses can do what they want. I don't buy Apple stuff from Amazon anyways but I do frequently buy other things from Amazon.

Seems fair, just like Apple stopped selling a few competing products themselves. That sounds like it's looking at the world from an Apple-centric view, so just take that as an example.
How can you compare? Apple isn't an online mall like Amazon is. They sell mostly Apple products and a handful of third party accessories that complement their first party hardware or play well with the ecosystem. That isn't even close to what Amazon does.

Really? Does that mean Apple will start selling Amazon products and androids? Didn't Apple stop selling Bose products when they bought beats? Lots of hypocrisy I this thread.

You really need to drop this argument, you really sound silly. Apple's online sales model is in no way, shape, or form comparable to Amazon. Apple sells its products and product that it deems compatible with its products. Period. Amazon is a global super-mall selling almost every freaking thing and every freaking brand under the sun.

Since there are no listings for the Apple TV v4 yet (that I saw), is it possible that Amazon is simply stopping sales of the Apple TV v3 and lower? They're stopping sales of items currently in the store that do not support Amazon Prime. However, once the v4 is out, they most likely will make an app for it.

You act like they just shot your best friend. Two massive corporations that don't know you exist are fighting. Not sure what the big deal is.

Get real. If Amazon's product was sold at the Apple retail stores and Apple decided to no longer allow it to be sold there this forum would go ballistic on Apple. But it's okay when Amazon does it huh?

I don't think it is a matter of Amazon not wanting to make an App for the AppleTV. It is Apple not allowing them to publish it. Apple sees Amazon as a direct competitor to iTunes... and they are.
I can confirm that this is not the case. And besides, why would Apple not allow Amazon when it allows everyone else including Hulu, Netflix, and YouTube (which has Google Play contents)?

This shows a lack of confidence in their own hardware. They are basically trying to force prime customers into buying fire tv even if they prefer the competitor's hardware. Now a prime customer has to decide between their preferred hardware or losing their preferred service. It's BS, but it's genius from a marketing standpoint.

iTunes doesn't have a subscription service for movies/TV shows, and Netflix/Hulu don't sell movies/TV shows. So none of them competes directly with iTunes. Amazon on the other hand, does. So does Vudu, which is also not on Apple TV.
So why are these apps available in the App Store? I can download a Kindle or Prime app right now on my iPad if I wanted to. Spotify, Rdio, Google apps all exist in the App Store even though they compete with Apple's apps/services.

All those people who thought there was for sure going to be an Amazon instant video app on the Apple TV now that it has an App Store. Keep dreaming.
