I liked the new Alexa services, like Ring and Alexa answering the door, great if your not at home, as is the new security system where echo devices can listen for noises and voices etc and alert you. I didn’t quite understand it’s wireless protocol idea though but the dog tracking device sounded cool.

they said you can add a sub, and a sub would sound better then the HomePod guaranteed, some home cinemas have four or more..
I am waiting to see what people make of the sound quality. I also think the IKEA Sonos lamp is good too.
You haven’t even heard it, so you’re just guessing.

It probably sounds fine but I’m skeptical it would be acceptable (to me) in a home theater context.

I hate my HomePod. It is so buggy that it renders my Apple TV almost nonfunctional, making my overall TV viewing experience extremely aggravating. The only upside is that now I have less desire to watch TV because of the buggy HomePod.

I love my HomePod but I never use it to play tv audio.

I love my paired HomePods and always use them to play TV audio with no issues at all.

So basically Amazon is putting Alexa in everything but a smartphone.

HUH? What bugs and how does it effect teh AppleTV?

I hope Apple comes back into WIFI Router business.

They already had the ability to take an Airport Extreme and extend it with an Airport Express. All they needed was the "mesh" functionality that everyone is using today.

The single-router setup is obsolete in my eyes... one big router that you hope covers everywhere. It only works if you live in a small space.

I prefer to have multiple nodes spread throughout the house to increase coverage.

Apple was almost there years ago with the Extreme and Express. But they exited the market.

And companies like Eero jumpstarted the "mesh" market.

That's the setup I'm currently using. 3 extremes and 2 express. Not matter where I am, I get at least 100 down on my 150 xfinity plan. Closer to the extremes, I can get 170 consistently. I keep thinking I'll go to a mesh system, but this works with no problem. I may have jumped if this was WiFi 6.

People have been saying nowadays that Apple hasn't been innovating. Apple released AirPods in 2016 and completely revolutionized wireless earbuds with good sound quality and ease of integration with iOS! Now in 2019 Samsung and Amazon are introducing their own version to compete with Apple.

Amazon: We suck at making phones so we'll try making everything else to spy on you.

330,000,000 people in America, I am not a criminal and I don't cheat on my wife—-what is the real likelihood someone really cares where I am located while driving. I have been in digital marketing and believe me, everyone considers us a potential customer and nothing more.

It's not what Amazon or the Government or whatever listening in that comes to my mind when evaluating the potential issue. As we all should know nothing is secure and information from your smartphone, smart speakers, etc could easily be used against you. If, even if by random, someone was able to exploit a piece of tech in your home or personal life then that could be bad! Its just one more thing to be aware of.

In all reality, people self-exploit themselves more with social media and other public means. If someone wants information they probably don't have to look too hard.

That said we have an Echo of some sort in every room of the house... and even our cars. I patch my devices, I shred my papers, and I lock my doors. Just be careful out there and stop living in fear. You'll be just fine.

Yes and the Amazon echo buds charges via Micro USB with no wireless charging. Wow! 3 years after the Airpods ;)

Lol at “invite only”...
If anyone sent me an invitation to purchase a SUPER lame Alexa ring & Alexa Buddy Holly glasses- it’s official: we’re not talking anymore. You’re dead to me.

So now my private conversations will start to be listened to by random strangers wearing Alexa glasses? The only solution is to walk around in public yelling "Hey Alexa!" until people quit spying on everyone with their public always listening amazon products.

ok...come on it’s 2019 and three years of AirPods and they still don’t sound good...oh and there were wireless ear/headphones a long time before Apple (including Samsung)

I realize I’m likely in the minority, but I hate clocks. I have a clock on my iPhone, Apple Watch, and my oven and I’d turn then off if I could. I like that they are trying to innovate, but I’ll wait until someone hacks it to display messages.

Oddly enough I'm someone who would find this useful. I have an echo dot in both of my kids rooms. I have the rooms set up so that I can turn the lights on/off with my voice, and play music for my youngest that she falls asleep to. Yesterday when I was rocking her to sleep my phone was in another room and I had no way to check the time other than to ask Alexa. Being able to see the time on the Echo Dot rather than ask Alexa would have been nice, but i'm also not going to go replace my devices either just to get that feature.

As far as security goes, my girls are young enough that the only thing they do in their rooms is sleep and read. Maybe when they get older and spend more time in their rooms I'd consider pulling them out. But for now I don't see an issue with it.

So you don't have good fashion sense when it comes to glasses? No need to wish people dead.

GPS doesn't need to connect to a server to get your location. It just listens for the pings from satellites and triangulates appropriately. There's nothing remotely creepy about it.
I think he's complaining about the GPS displaying his position without him opening any software. The software opened itself and started displaying his location.

We are all in on Alexa. Have 5 or 6 Echos around the house. Alexa controls fans and A/C. Assume they will integrate it our Ring home security gear now that Amazon owns Ring.

So far it all has worked great. Google gives us a lot of their devices but we almost never even plug them in.

Not sure why people are so worried, but still have Siri on their iPhone and iPad, or even worse use Apple CarPlay guiding them down the road.

Huge fan of the Amazon Echo ecosystem, I got onboard early and my house is outfitted with it for the most part in all areas. I also have a couple of Google Hubs, handy for cord cutting and youtubeTV and nothing from Apple in the home automation arena. They arrived too late to the game, is way too expensive and not nearly as compatible as the others. Neat speaker though.
