I'm pretty sure most of us who've "experienced" 3D have already attested to the fact that we're neither impressed nor interested.

Complete fail! Can't the bigwigs at Amazon see this? And it actually looks like a decent phone. But marketing it as 3D is the first HUGE mistake. And at the stage in the game, you better be coming to the table with something that is leaps and bounds better then whats available now. If it's not (and this isn't) it's going to sink like a lead balloon.
I feel like 3D is a total pointless gimmick especially for a phone. I agree with you.
Behold! A phone not made by Apple!

Let the hate commence!

Considering the target demographic on this very site, it would be fairly understandable for people to favor Apple. What never fails are the posts proclaiming the hatred will commence.

It's hard to imagine with the technology available today that a 3D screen can be anything more than a gimmick. Maybe we'll be surprised but I don't think so.

Someday 3D/holograms will be amazing--but not now.

When they say '3D' I assumed they meant a 3D screen, similar to the Nintendo 3DS.

Sadly, that is not the most comfortable viewing experience in the world.

Amazon has had significant market share in the tablet market.

Amazon tablet market share: 7.6%

The FireTV is getting great reviews and is a much better device than Apple TV

Except for reviews ON Amazon.com, I see mostly reviews like this:
http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/04/amazon-fire-tv-misses-the-same-marks-as-ouya-other-media-boxes/

The Fire TV is a good competitor to Apple TV, but by no means 'better'. And 'much better' - sure, right. lol

Apple can only wish they replicate Amazon's kindle ebook store success.

Of course, Amazon had to use the courts to battle Apple in the ebook store - they couldn't compete.

So... don't write Amazon off yet, you haven't seen the device yet.

I just SAW the device at the top of this article.

Epic Fail post.

Good for 3D, a waste for users..

I'd like to actually take 4 pictures at a time, having 4 cameras.

Added to this fact since the market for 3D TV's are basically dead more or less, manufactures are now trying with mobile ?

They never give up do they ... What's makes them think that if its with you, it will be any better ?

4 cameras always on? Doesn't sound good for battery life.

You would be surprised at what CPUs can do these days. The Moto X battery life is pretty good with the auto listening feature turned on 24/7. Specialized sensors can save a lot of battery life. Also, we don't know what 'always on' means in this case. It could be in conjunction with a proximity sensor and not actually using any battery most of the time.

Why?

Why does anyone care about an Amazon(dot)com smartphone? Seems pretty stupid to me. What's next, the Walmart or Abercrombie & Fitch smartphones?? (smh)

What? Amazon was still outselling iBooks even after Apple tried to manipulate the market. And they are still the leader in digital book sales today. For the most part Apple has not had great success selling books but then again, they don't seem to be invested in books as much as Amazon.

Believe it or not, not every person in the world is invested in the Apple ecosystem. There are a lot of people invested in the Amazon ecosystem. So it makes sense they would sell phones to those users.

Yea, but the kindle fire was the first serious affordable tablet from the android side

3.5 Stars out of 5 on amazon. Not bad.

Yes of course because Apple never used the court to battle Samsung. What a flawed logic.

I just SAW the device at the top of this article.

Did you read the article? it said clearly that the device is 'hidden inside case', third line. So NO, did not SEE the device yet, not entirely.

Epic fail reply

Amazon did not use any court, it's not even a party in the lawsuit. Amazon couldn't compete because after the publishers' collusion price was not a factor in the competition anymore, it was fixed. Basically it's Apple which couldn't or didn't want to compete in a market with a competitor able to offer better prices.

Apple was late with it's iPhone almost e decade. That said, this one doesn't look/sound like a game changer!

Huh, really? Unless you're referring to the old Blackberries, I'm pretty sure Apple led the way for actual touchscreen smartphones to enter the market in 2007. BTW, iPhone has been the standard model copied by all of the other manufacturer's since. So not sure what you're trying to say.

I guess… Hope Amazon enjoys their 8% smartphone marketshare then.

There were many touch screen phones before the iPhone. Apple was the first with multi-touch, however.

Great...the phone's key feature, and Amazon's key reason for making it...is focused on making it more likely for me to buy things on Amazon.

Meanwhile, Apple is hard at work trying to make great hardware to change the world without an ulterior motive of data mining or eCommerce. I'll stick with Apple. Thanks.;)

What is the OS that is running?

Is this yet another platform for apps? This is getting crowded.

I assume like their Fire tablets and just released Fire TV, it’ll be a variant of their current Fire OS 3.0 with some phone UI elements worked in (which of course is a fork of Android, I believe the current F/OS is based off 4.2.x [?] ).
