But grow up.

Whats the point of growing up if i can't choose to be childish?:D

The body/shape kind of resembles a Windows phone.

Yeah, no thanks.

please don't post this type of post... its just.. silly...

this is NOT final hardware. it's a test platform. the casing is completetly irrelevant to the testing procedures and is just there cause you can't just have a screen with internals hanging out. These cases are often used to actually HIDE what they're actually developing for the look of the final hardware.

Wonder how this will look in real life. Unfortunately, Apple's implementation of parallax was not well received at all.

Other than some folks posting on the Internet and stories of few folks getting motion sickness, I've yet to hear anyone in real life complain about it. On the contrary, they all seem to think it's really cool. I even had one person at work who didn't even realize that feature was there until I pointed it out. And when she saw it, she beamed like a little kid and said "wow! that's so cool!"

Amazon has rumors of a 3D phone: LMAO FAIL

If Apple had a rumor of a 3D phone: Finally! 3D will be done right!

This will be a huge problem solver for all those people frustrated by lack of 3D on their phone.

It looks nothing like an iPhone. Just having a screen on it means someone here at MR will say it is an iPhone clone :). It looks more like a Lumia than anything else.

Yes it does look like an iPhone clone.. Lumia also is an iPhone clone:apple:

Haha. I think Nokia's Lumia line is one of the few phones that try to look different than every other slab of phone. Unfortunately, they run Windows Phone.

The fact that Amazon will be giving these things away as a loss leader in order to sell content is the important thing to note here. It's not the phone itself.

3D is a fad that has passed us by thankfully. Amazon is 2 years too late with that feature.

This reminds me of the excitement of the Evo 3D about 4 years ago and then the immediate disappointment upon playing for 2 days and wanting my Evo 4G back .

I cant imagine the desire for this phone to go too far

3D iPhone camera

A 3-D camera is actually a feature / "gimmick" that I'd like to have on my iPhone. I don't even care if I have a 3D iPhone display to view them on, as long as it'll show me 2D versions on the screen I'd be happy, but then I remember the days of film where it was weeks before I got to see the photos that I took!

Great...the phone's key feature, and Amazon's key reason for making it...is focused on making it more likely for me to buy things on Amazon.

Meanwhile, Apple is hard at work trying to make great hardware to change the world without an ulterior motive of data mining or eCommerce. I'll stick with Apple. Thanks.;)

Have you seen :apple:TV? Multiple menus heavily tied to trying to sell movies & tv shows from iTunes and one un-intuitive menu called "computers" where our own movies & tv shows are stored. The original :apple:TV put our own movies in the "Movies" menu, our own TV shows in the "TV Shows" menu and so on. Now "it just works" by putting it all in a menu called "computers". Genius.

I appreciate that "we" can only see faults with anything NOT branded Apple but I think it's great that Amazon is trying to compete. Competition is good for us and good for Apple. You don't have to buy anything NOT branded Apple but others might. If enough others buy it, it might move Apple to evolve… you know like they're apparently doing on screen sizes as they've tired of many voting with their wallets and buying the bigger-screened phones of competitors.

To the rest here: Amazon doesn't have to build a game changer. They- or anyone else- don't have to build a phone that replaces iPhone or does EVERYTHING better than iPhone. They just need to build one appealing enough to carve out a segment of buyers from the population that wants a smart phone and can see beyond the Apple brand. Carving out even a few percent of all smart phones purchased generates a LOT of direct revenue and then indirect revenue. "We" hate them for even trying… "HOW DARE THEY!"… but they are doing nothing different than Apple looking at a market and deciding to try to take a bite out of it (like when Apple got into the music player business, the music store business, the mobile phone business and so on).

Competition is good. I hope Amazon sells a lot of these. Maybe they'll innovate something great that will move Apple to try to one up them on whatever it is. Then, WE end up with a better iPhone if the only phone "we" (ANYONE) should buy has an Apple logo on it.

you do realize that What you think Amazon's main business is also Apple's.

your premise in your post is fundamentally flawed because you assume that apple has altruistic intentions.

They are no different than the other companies.

What they did differently was have an extremely charismatic leader for most of their existence that you WANTED to believe. When Jobs talked, people believed the words from his mouth without question.

this is called the Apple Reality Distortion Field.

meanwhile, Apple has admittingly participated in exactly the same corporate behaviour that virtually every other player in the game plays.

right down to attempting to lock you in to their system.

Straight from the words of internal Apple documents released as part of the 2nd Patent trial:
"tie all of our products together, so we further lock customers into our ecosystem"
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1722300/

Apple also Datamines:
http://advertising.apple.com/

and eCommerce is absolutely something they're doing. Through bringing in in store payment digitally through iphones and taking %'s off all app store sales. They are absolutely in the business of e-commerce

listen, I dont judge apple here. There's nothing WRONG with all of it. doing such activities is amoral and does help advance technology for everyone. As long as these companies keep competing with eachother to outdo eachother, we have competition that drives further technology everyday, and in the end, WE ALL WIN

the amazon OS tho ... i got my mum a kindle fire and ugh its the worst. even rooted u cant have a wallpaper. its ecosystem is even more restricted than iOS has ever been

Fanboys annoy me, but it's hard to not be a fanboy of the iphone.

please explain.. is it the same basic design for 47 years.. the my little pony colour scheme for ios7 , or the Fisher price grid OS layout, cos simple old grannys got to be able to use it... Yep fella, I can see where you're coming from...is it too early to start camping out for the next one..

why change if its working and the usability is great for the sake of change? (lol i cant believe i am even the one saying that after bitching about iOS looking the same for years) but once i got an Nexus 4 and discovered that u never really need most of its "tweaks" i stopped. hell i even got sick of those widgets i always admired before i got an android. simple "grid" with a clock it is. Also i miss the notifications of iOS on the lockscreen (dont tell me to ddl some app). most cool stuff requires rooting which is just annoying and nearly impossible on a mac and not as simple as just clicking a button of a jb
