why are we splitting votes in to sexual preferences? who cares?

i prefered just thinking of it as the "american" vote for american idol.

lets stop segregating ourselves

Granted, but sex appeal does sell. And that can vary. :)

Keep in mind talent sometimes does not count. It is how they "sell" to an audience, and the fantasy that they sell to. Ace IMO was able to sell his look to both "sides".

To be honest in the Gay community you just have to look at the ads for the RSVP cruises, and all the other "beautiful" bodies presented to understand how he got as far as he did.

I am not supporting it, in some ways we are too shallow. Even I, with a comment made earlier; but I was trying to look at at what sells. I don't make the rules, as you know by meeting me personally - I don't fit the rules. :D But I try and live with it. In some ways you and are "equals" in looks. OK, a stretch. :) But in the hair department we are equals. In an ad campaign you would probably get a higher "Q" rating that I would. Or even in the workplace in a good number of workplaces, you and I with equal qualifications, you would get the promotions perhaps (save for the "fat man" TV on CBS :D ).

I hope you get what I mean.

Ha-ha! Yes- I do. :) But come on- Ace sucked, and not in the way you might like him too. ;)

Actually, I just heard about one of the songs on Fantasia's new album just the other day, and then went and listened to a snippet of it on iTunes.

like i said, "silent". They havent produced anything that would be played on the radio.

all four idols have either gone gold or platinum right away, but the ironic thing is clay aiken, a runner up, still sold the most albums and got the most exposure from the record industry, talk shows, and network tv

demographically, a white male finally winning american idol would most likely be a sure big time seller and at the very least go double platinum (my wild prediction)...i am thinking that for elliott, taylor, or chris

Hmmmmm, how I feel about the final 5:

In General - With the other seasons I've been really disappointed with the final group, I've always thought the final 5 were usually a worse group than the first 5 eliminated in the final 10. This season, however, I've been very happy with all the eliminations - except Mandisa. She should still be there, replacing Taylor Hicks.

Here's how I feel about each contestant:

Taylor Hicks - Worst out of the final 5. He has a very nice tone to his voice, but it's inconsistant, and his quirkiness got old really quick for me. He bores me more than any of the other contestants.

Chris Daughtry - Hmmmm... I don't know what to think about Chris. I think he would do very well in rock music, and I hate rock music. So, I don't like Chris mostly because of musical preferences, but I also dislike him because: a) he forces vibratto. Last week, with Andrea Bocelli, the singers pointed out that he did not have proper singing technique in that he sang from his throat and not his diaphragm. But his singing technique is off in many other ways. Take a look at his chin when he is singing, it often vibrates with his vibratto, which is bad singing technique as well and is a pet peeve of mine. Vibratto, when forced, sounds like a sheep 'bahing'. He sounds like a sheep to me. Vibratto should come naturally if you open your vocal chords. He creates his vibratto with air fluctuations, which sounds very bad to me. b) He can only sing rock well. And he does it very well, but his non-rock performances are very average like last week, or bad, like prior weeks. I prefer more dynamic singers.

Other than that, I think Chris is very talented when it comes to rock music, and I certainly wouldn't mind seeing him and his beautiful shaved head and body on billboards, CD covers, etc ;). I find him to be very attractive :). But personally, I'd prefer him to be a model than a singer.

Elliott Yamin - I like Elliott, but he isn't exciting enough. His vocals are very good, but he hasn't wowed me very often. None of the other top 5 have wowed me often either. When he sang Moody's Mood for Love, I was very impressed, it was a flawless performance. He hasn't bested that performances yet. I'd be most likely to buy an Elliott Yamin CD, so he'll probably get my vote till the end, but I don't think he'd be successful in the mainstream.

Katharine McPhee - She's consistently decent. She has never wowed me. She, along with Chris, needs to stop singing from her throat and nose. Her voice isn't as big as she tries to make it out to be. Her personality is completely uninteresting as well.

Paris Bennett - She might get my vote rather than Elliott just because she's more fun and she has a lot of potential. At 17, she has a lot of maturing to do vocally and her voice is already mature. She is inconsitant though, but that's kind of to be expected because of her age. I'd be very happy if she won. She reminds me of a non-annoying Fantasia :).

so long as they keep Katherine around, i'll keep watching ;) she's a cutie :D

She is, but Kelee was CUTE... every 14 year old's wet dream.... unfortunately the last two weeks showed she didn't belong. America was right. Elliot HAS the best voice. I am right! :)

Right on, except for Paris. This week was NOT good, and showed flaws in her voice... big ones. She might be next. Even though Chris did great, he's inconsistent. After Paris, it's him. Then Taylor. Has a following. He's quirky enough and CLEARLY loves what he does and the audience sees it. The final two will be Elliot and Katherine. Katherine wins.

hey pratt,

great review

paris could also get my vote if the others somehow falter...she's more dynamic than taylor and kat, and usually more dynamic than elliott, but is somewhat less energetic than chris who probably has a stronger following than paris

but paris sings in tune where chris can get pitchy from time to time

if paris was a couple of years older and more experienced, she would have clearly and easily been the favorite

she could still win the whole thing, but i don't think she will win it big if she does win like the way fantasia totally outdid her runner up

Bye bye, Paris. Or maybe Elliott.

So what was that second song that Katharine sang last night? That was kinda interesting.

K.T. Tunstall - Black Horse and Cherry Tree.===>Link
I thought the song sounded familiar. It was a free iTunes video a while back. She is smoking hot.. She also kinda reminds me of Paris in as much as her speaking voice and her singing voice are two completeley different things

paris or taylor are out.

i agree even though taylor is one of my favorites (along with elliott)

elliott has the best voice and chris has the most stage presence

katherine is still so blah, but that's what i thought about carrie and she won last year over bo bice...while i sat there and scratched my head

my guess is that elliott, taylor, and chris have strong female contingents among their fans and this show caters more to women, so i think this is the last week for paris (she just isn't quite matured yet for this competition)

Very pleased to see Paris given her ticket home last night. Whenever I watch the results show, I realize that one of the most annoying phrases is when Ryan says "... after the break." The show is approximately 65% commercials, 25% nonsense and 10% related to the business at hand.

At this point I can honestly say I am not "Pleased" to see anyone go. Pickler was the last one that had no reason being there. The final five were/are truly talented individuals.

Initally I thought the final two would be Chris and Katherine but the way Katherine has been singing as of late I really don't see her making it.

Katherine has a good voice but does not always pick the best songs. I was surprised by the K.T. Tunstall cover and I think that is the only thing that saved her this last week. My only real problem with Katherine is that she smiles way too much. Even in the middle of a truly sad part of "Against all Odds" she is, for lack of a better term, "Cheesing it up" for the cameras.

I initially thought Taylor was a joke, but he has since proven that he does have an outstanding voice and knows how to play the crowd. He is just such fun.

Elliot has a great voice, but absolutely no stage presence at all.

Chris is IMHO the best vocalist of the group and has the ability to play the audience well Seeing him on stage reminds me of more seasoned performers. I see him taking it all.

As for the number two spot it is anyones game.
I will say that since next week is "Elvis week" Taylor is almost guarenteed a spot in the final three.

I was surprised to see Elliot in the bottom two. Katherine should have been there, and her look said that she thought so too IMO.

My personal pick would be Taylor to finish number one. He has charisma and style that I like. For the best voice, Elliot. But as idol material he would be hard to promote IMO, Clay not withstanding. Chris has the package that someone like Simon can do the most with.

i thought that paris was the one sent home....
You are correct, Paris was the one sent home. Although Elliott was the other person in the bottom two.

I think Elliott's the next to go. After him, it will be either Katharine or Taylor. I would love to see Taylor win it, just because he's the most entertaining one of the bunch (to me) -- but I think the winner will be Chris.

So sorry.
I got confused cause Elliot sang the same song twice, usually only the one booted sings a swan song.
Meant to say bottom two.
My apologies.
