Many people will be happy Ace is gone but I still want Kelly to go.

ace probably did better than her but next week it will probably be her time

finally elliott was in the top group as he should have been all along

My problem with Elliott and Buckey was poor teeth. There I said it. For me an "idol" is to perfection in both voice and looks.

The appearance of teeth can be dramatically enhanced, but do we really want to get involved in standards of looks for a show that is one based on vocal ability and performance related skills?

Ruben Studdard ... the ultimate portrait in perfection. :)

Advice for Ms. Pickler: The public is fickle enough to begin with, so under no circumstances should you ever respond to a judge's comment by saying, "I butchered it, right?"

I was actually impressed that she acknowledged that and was willing to own up to it. I had been under the impression that contestants on the show tended to be snots when told they had done poorly. But, I think the voting process is silly, so people in my opinion group may be just non-voters. Nonetheless - I was impressed with that. It actually vaulted my opinion of her significantly. I would actually be fine with her finishing second to Taylor.

I say Ace, Kelly, and Taylor in the bottom three with Ace going home.
Well, I pooched my predictions of the bottom three this time around, but at least I got the final.. I was truly disturbed that Chris was in the bottom three this week. What disturbed me even more was that Kelly was not. I guess this goes to prove the point that idol is more of a popularity contest than a talent show.

I also thought it was refreshing and forthcoming ... acknowledging that there is room for improvement and growth can be well-received by the public, but since one's fate rests solely on the vote total, it still might be wise to let the mighty judges do the criticizing while the contestant smiles and politely nods.

Hands down Chris's performance truncated everyone elses. It was absolutely intoxicating and dare I say better than the original.
That word... I do not think it means what you think it means. ;)

I missed the first few performances. So apparently Kellie really just outdid herself, huh? Hopefully she'll leave next.

I liked Taylor's performance, probably because "Just Once" is one of my favorite songs. I agree with the judges that he appeared uncomfortable, though.

Inconceivable.

Definitely Chris. Hands down.

Kellie was loud. Really loud.
If "loud" means "bad", then I agree. She seems like a nice person. A nice person who is just being completely outclassed by the competition.

The best part of the show tonight was when I looked up at the clock and saw that it was 9 p.m. No performance impressed me that much. Is it possible for Paula's behavior to get any more bizarre?

That is probably the most puzzling question of the night. I can't blame Simon for laughing at her for crying. What the heck was that about? I was laughing too... not really at her, just at the randomness of it.

I don't know if I'd agree with you on the impressiveness of the performances tonight, I thought 1-3 I listed above were pretty good.

Nobody is really impressing me this season. They didn't let many deserving, talented people in the top 24 and we are stuck with a very mediocre bunch of people.

Its sad what seems to be happening to Paula. Here she has this great opportunity to be in the limelight again and she is making a mockery of herself. I hope she can keep it together.

Katharine was jarred by the stinging criticism. Nobody goes up and does a Whitney Houston song thinking they are going to suddenly make everyone forgret about WH, but there is an undercurrent of hypocrisy from all the judges in that they exhort performers to expand their horizons, take on greater challenges and show as much range as possible.

Then when they make a valiant attempt to so do, they are often met with remarks questioning their judgment for having had the audacity to choose a song made popular by Streisand, Houston, Tina Turner, et al. BTW, McPhee looked hot and also showed more flesh than I recall in quiite some time.

My ranking for tonight:

1. Elliott
2. Chris
3. Katherine
4. Taylor
5. Paris
6. The Pickle

i totally agree

something great happened to elliott last night and i was totally moved...the same way fantasia, clay, or rueben may have done in the past...the only difference being that fantasia, clay, and rueben brought it every single week and nobody in this season has that type of performance charisma

i think the bottom three vote getters will be 6) kellie, 4) taylor, and 3) katherine

elliott and chris are definitely safe this week and if they aren't, then america is deaf like simon often says ;)

I never liked Fantasia, her voice was to whiney for my taste, Katherine had a great performance IMO and I say she will be in the final 2 with Chris. It is time for Pickler to go, Paris is good but her voice is not developed enough, she is 5 years to early for this competition. I wish Taylor would of sung better last night cause i think he may be one of the best singers there. Elliot just doesn't seem to have it but the judges fall all over him.

does anyone else feel like the powers that be are pushing a win for a male vocalist? It seems like last night they TRASHED Kat who really wasnt all that bad and Paula "cried" when Elliot sang (which was a little contrived). Also Chris was flanked by acustic guitars. Bo Bice almost won it last year, but i thought his lack of humility lost him the vote. So in my mind it seems like they want a guy to win so they can fill a demographic or something.

My mother-in-law, who believes that American Idol is "fixed" in some nefarious but unspecified way, has declared that this year's winner will be a white male because it's "their turn". ;)

The first season's winner was Kelly Clarkson, a white female; season two was Ruben Studdard, a black male; the third season, it was Fantasia, a black female; and last year's winner was Carrie Underwood, another white female.

cheers to your MIL who is most assurdedly correct... i also fully
believe in the american idol conspiracy as least that american is
being "steered" and that the "auditions" arent necessarily fair...
at all... a white male needs to win... they have been shut out
consistantly... justin in season one, clay in season two...
bo in season four... i dont remember who fantasia beat...
but man does she suck...

anyways... this season they have 2 great contenders for a male
to win... i believe chris is too niche with his mostly alternative
style... american idol cant market alternative music any better than
pearl jam could release a disc of showtunes... but with elliot they
have already pointed to his harry conick [sp?] smooth subtle
type voice... definately a voice my mom and other such typical
american idol fans could get their ears around...

the girls are gonna loose this year... pickler [although pretty *****
hot when they dont paint her up like a dolly partan dress up doll]
will probably go home tonight... paris is too young and keeps singing
songs that make her vulnerable to the little girl playing dress up
scenario... kat is the best girl, but the judges will keep bashing her
until shes gone... part of the steering of the judges [errr simon at
least... the only judge without his head in his ass...]

im all tangented out for now... the best part about american idol
is UNAN1MOUS on right after the results... now thats a show!!!

I think Kelly should really go home. She has been bad the last few weeks. I admire her sense of humility, but this is not a competition of sweet personalities, but of singing. Hopefully, the one that wins will have both personality AND a good voice. Sorry, but buh-bye Kelly.

Does anyone think maybe Paula's been drunk the last few weeks? Or on some sort of medication?

I haven't seen much of Idol this season because I have a late class on Tuesdays, but she was on the Tonight Show a few weeks back and was clearly either drunk or high during the show. I've never seen Jay so unsure of how to proceed with an interview. the funny part was, she came out holding a giant fake martini glass, supposedly to mock the way she had been portrayed in the press - but I think she really was drunk!

we all know, unless something big happens, kellie and paris are out leaving the relatively talented kat to battle seattle chris, soulful taylor, and elliott (technically the best singer when he is on which is one out of three times)

it could come down to three men in the end and america will be buzzing with speculation

when it was rueben vs. clay, we all knew they were good and very closely matched in the vote and it made for a very interesting finale

season 1 had kelly easily beating justin...season 3 had fantasia easily beating "that cute but overmatched" teen...but season 4, though close, was between a man and a woman and it was apples and oranges

a three way battle between three potentially good male singers (none of them have been great throughout) will be ratings gold
