American Idol Season Premiere TONIGHT!!

on cbs this morning simon cowell said it will come down to chris and taylor...well, at least chris and taylor are in the top four and one of them is bound to be in the top two

anything can happen
 
Elvis Night:

Taylor - Fair. But I think he and Katharine are tied for doing the worst tonight.

Chris - pretty good. I didn't like his second performance, and his sunglasses in the first performance were as corny as anything I've ever seen on Idol, and that's saying a lot. Actually I take that back, Ace was cornier every single night, but Chris is pulling a close second with those faded aviators. I agree that the vocals were flat on the second song, and I don't think it was too passionate. The first performance was pretty good. The second was decent.

Elliott - Phew! I was hoping Elliott would do well tonight and he sure did! He did very very very well on both performances.

Katharine - Here's what I think about Katharine. She has a mediocre voice, but she pushes it really hard, which is what has made her come this far, but I don't think she'll last any longer. Remember her first performance when she sang those high notes in full voice? Remember how shrill and squeaky they were? That's what I'm talking about. Singing those notes were tasteful, IMO, but her voice isn't capable of hitting them pleasantly. As for the second song, she tried to push herself too far with the amplitude. Her arrangements are bigger than her voice is.


I hope Katharine goes home tonight, but I think it will be Taylor. This was Taylor's night to shine and he didn't at all. Plus, Katharine is the only female left, which will get a lot of female votes. Earlier today I told Lee that I wouldn't be very disappointed if Elliott went home tonight even though I'm rooting for him, because he hasn't impressed me much lately, but I take that back. Elliott did really well tonight, and he restored much of my faith in him.

I really wish they would get rid of Elliot, I can't stand him. None of them were really that great tonight, Its hard to sing Elvis songs since he had such a unique voice. I think they really screwed Katherine tonight, How is she supposed to be able to pull off singing like Elvis. She has a good voice just the songs were not that great.
 
Dialidol.com says Chris and Kat are basically tied for last and either one could be going home. Elliott and Taylor seem to have a pretty comfortable lead. Whichever one it is, I hope Elliott picks up their votes so he can beat Taylor in the end!
 
Dialidol has been way off in the past, so take that with a grain of salt even though it is very possible.

You're right, but the past few weeks they have been pretty accurate. I think they started counting differently and collecting scores from their dialing program as well. Who knows, but Elliott and Taylor seem to have a pretty substantial lead over the other two, I'd be surprised for it to be that far off.
 
I usually like Chris' performance but tonight I thought he was weak.

I really want to like Katherine - she seems like perfect "idol" material but her voice has never wowed me.

I like Elliot and Taylor for the top two.

I agree.

If Chris were to get eliminated this week, I can't decide whether I'd be disappointed or happy. Chris really bores me, but I know he deserves it more than Katharine or Taylor.

I don't know... I like Katherine a lot. Here would be my ranking of the final 4:

1. Elliott
2. Katherine
3. Chris
4. Taylor

But the actual voting will probably be:

1. Taylor
2. Elliott
3. Chris
4. Katherine

Thats my prediction anyway.
 
Elliott's Elvis selections suited him very well and he delivered the best performances last night and should be in the finale.

Simon, you are an arrogant, snobby stiff ... that would be ASS (and let's not forget the CAPS).
 
Well, I had to go pick up my wife at the airport last night and so I missed the "Elvis" show. Based on the previous comments, it sounds like there's a lot of disagreement about who the best and worst performances were! Does anyone know if last night's show (or parts of it) are (legally) available online anywhere?
 
I agree with Simon a good portion of the time 🙂.

But I also agree with you 😉.

Mr ranking of the last 4:

1. Elliott
2. Katharine
3. Chris
4. Taylor

Although Chris should be #2, when it comes to who deserves it, I think, but I just don't like the songs that he sings. I put katharine so high even though I don't like her much now because she pushes her voice to its limit which I like. She has a very mediocre range and mediocre amplitude, but pushes it further than most. Also, her voice has improved a lot throughout the competition. She has opened up and she isn't so airy anymore. But there's still something I don't get - if America wants someone to sing power ballads, why did they eliminate Mandisa, who actually had the voice for them?

Who I think it will be, realistically, if Chris doesn't get eliminated today:

1. Chris
2. Elliott
3. Taylor
4. Katharine

I'm not sure, but everyone did relatively well compared to their prior performances. My parents who watched with me, and are not normal AI watchers, said "how can you choose one to go home out of these four?"

i hope taylor leaves because i just like looking at katherine.
also she didnt do as well tonight but i think she was at a disadvantage
because of the theme.
 
My wife loves Taylor, but I like Katharine. I'm pretty sure she'll get the boot though. She didn't do very well last night, and even if she was at a disadvantage by having to sing Elvis songs, I'm not sure there's enough people left to vote for her.

i am with you on that one...taylor has an x factor that may make him get the most votes tonight

wouldn't it be interesting if it came down to elliott and katherine? neither uses gimmicks and they rely on their voices

taylor and chris have a presence on stage and that could play well into the voting...chris is like a grunge rockstar and taylor is passionate and soulful onstage and he shows it outwardly

this will be an interesting final four since in their own ways they are evenly matched and it's the first time since season 1 that it has come down like this
 
The problem is that if Elliot wins is he marketable to be a pop star, He doesn't have the look or the charisma to pull it off. Taylor can sell to the older crowd with his look and singing. Katherine will get the teeny boppers, and Chris can get the wanna be rocker crowd.

I think this is right on - Elliott isn't marketable, but that's partially why I like him. Musicians are more likely to conform to their image when it is set out for him. I think Elliott is more likely to do something out of the mainstream because his looks and his personality are out of the mainstream. And you're exactly right, Katharine would make a CD of pop and ballads that are only mediocre which I wouldn't buy (and I love power ballads to death, but just don't think she does them all that well). Chris would make a trendy rock album which I wouldn't buy. Taylor would make a bluesy, classic rocky type album that I wouldn't buy. I envision Elliott making a jazzy, poppy, soulful album which I would definitely buy.

Am I the only one here who thinks her but is just a little too wide? She has a cute face but I just get the thought that she is one twinkie away from going to flab.
