I wouldn't say a colossal waste of time. It took me two minutes to write.

I wouldn't say silly either. Unless people express dissatisfaction, how will they know people are dissatisfied?

Which is why I'm still prepared to give the benefit of the doubt.

Tim cook has dragged away iPhone from Steve Jobs vision and so is he doing in other areas.
I'm not so sure about that. I don't know what SJs vision was and I don't know what TCs vision is. Apple has to have a strategy a few years out, and I think some of that will become clear this year. I don't expect the 10th anniversary iphone to be the be-all and end-all. What would apple do after that? But I do expect a huge media blitz, more than a huge iphone upgrade. I suspect for the 10th anniversary apple will have some technologies working/available that are works in progress today.

I emailed Tim once about Lion destroying my MBP battery. I git a reply from someone saying something noncommittal. But the battery problem was fixed. If people don't feedback, there's no feedback!

Feedback about an issue is one thing, complaining about rumors of an unannounced and unreleased product, well, that's something else.

You could...

A: Write a long and amusing letter to the CEO about a product that hasn't been released yet.
B: Just go buy something else if you're not happy with the iPhone
C: Get a life and stop bothering people
D: B+C

Just giving you a hard time :)

But really... let's see the thing before we bitch, no?

F: A CEO doesn't care too much about you. This is unfortunate reality of the present society :), but we have to express our opinions.

My only opinion:

Apple's CEO got the booming company from Steve and I think I'll buy Samsung Galaxy S8 next.
T-mobile's CEO got the company in a bad shape and I will use my Galaxy S8 there instead of At&t :)
Things change.

This is a copy of an email I've just sent to Tim Cook, CEO at Apple, regarding the new iPhone.

Alas, I doubt he'll even take any notice.

Hi Tim,

I've emailed you a few times about things in the past. I don't know if you actually receive, or read them, but I hope you do.

That said, I want to express my frustrations at what I am seeing (photo's and videos) and reading about the upcoming iPhone.

Things like, same design as iPhone 6/6s, lack of headphone jack and a constant obsession with ever thinner devices forsaking decent battery capacity.

I have purchased every iPhone apart from the 3GS, 5c, 6 and 6s (having purchased the 5s, 6 and 6s Plus).

However, of late, I'm fed up with what seems like a standstill in progress. Put it this way, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is an exceptionally impressive device - something I didn't think I'd ever say about a Samsung product. Just a shame about the ****** software on it.

I am prepared to give Apple the benefit of the doubt and wait for your keynote in September. Rumours are of course just rumours until official word. But and this a BIG but, I will not be buying the phone if it turns out to be everything I've seen in the 'supposed leaks' this time around.

I work hard for my money and have been a loyal Apple iPhone customer. But Apple is falling behind the competition and not listening to what it's customers want.

Judging from the Apple related rumour/forum websites I visit frequently, I'm far far far from the only one who feels this way.

I'll be sure to update you after the keynote with my final verdict. That said, you probably won't lose a tremendous amount of sleep if I chose not to buy the next model. Will you?

Thanks for taking the time to read my email.

Regards,
Matt

Matt, don't listen to the .... here who told you that you wrote the letter bad or you did it wrong. You made a good thing. If we "eat" what we are given we will be robots. It is easier to manipulate with robots, but we are still humans with our opinions, dreams and wishes....
People like you change the world to the best.

By the way... I wrote once to Steve Jobs about iWork with a very specific question and he did respond (or his office did, more likely). I don't know if Tim Cook or his office answers customers emails. I assume he does, but I think you need to have a legitimate question or suggestion. I don't think they will respond to complaints about a product that hasn't been released yet.

Just. Wait. Patiently.

Actually. I have used a Samsung device. I used an S6 for almost 2 months. Couldn't stand it and the battery life was awful in comparison to my iPhone 6. So please don't say I haven't used something without asking first.

My point with the outdated statement is in comparison to new technology it's old. You can get much higher quality audio from the Lightning port than 3.5mm audio jack.
An S6 and S7 are completely different devices... Maybe if you bothered to read up on the S7, you would know it had a bigger battery.

Tim Cook doesn't design the products nor determine the feature set.

That's the job of the design team.

My 6 plus has 8 hours of screen on time.
That's usage, not screen on time. Don't confuse the two. Besides, does it last all day with EVERYTHING on? I think not.

Doesn't matter if they are completely different devices. You specifically said "you have not used a Samsung device." Did you not? You did not ask if I have used an S7. So that's on you. Stop assuming I haven't done my research or I don't know anything. It's extremely rude and condescending.

Second, I get 11+ hours usage and 18+ hours of standby on my 6s every single day. Every feature turned on. Notifications. Push Email. Apple Watch. I never turn off anything. I use iOS as it comes standard.

My usage is well beyond 8+ hours.

My s7 edge battery life is just as good as my 6 plus not changing how I use the both devices daily. Comparing usage with others differs from one person to another since everyone uses their phones differently. A good comparison would be if you had both phones doing the same exact things like this video:

Both my S7 Edge and iPhone 6 plus last the entire day... so that's all that matter to me. Both are very similar in battery life. However, I think iOS does better in battery efficiency. If the iPhone had a 3600 mAh battery... I'm pretty sure the iPhone would win.

Don't take this the wrong way, but do you think that anyone of importance at Apple will read or care about what you have to say? What's the expected outcome here?

I actually think people who run the company care, but they use broader market data to evaluate product performance. Individual complaints, especially about products yet to be released, will not have an impact.

Exactly. A single letter doesn't matter. That's why I encouraged him to go to social media instead.

@matjamca - Nothing wrong with sending an e-mail to Tim. Not sure why you created a thread for it?

I've been in tech a couple decades (both sides of the border). All correspondence to the C-level execs or VP's at any large enterprises are dealt with by the executive escalations teams first. They have set criteria for what does/doesn't get through to the intended executive. If it doesn't warrant escalation, you get a form letter, appreciating your feedback, etc.

There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG with sending such feedback. Everyone should that wants to. Many of these do trickle through to in the intended recipient and they actually do read them.

My own take is that Apple is lacking in the leadership that we all want to see deliver the products we want (no, no, save your "He's talking about Steve" rhetoric). While I think Steve did a lot of good, I'm not sure he'd be what Apple needs now. (And, it's not any of the senior leadership they have today - there needs to be a major housecleaning at Apple.)

"Think different"?! Sorry. Leadership at Apple is "Think the same...rinse and repeat". They're more IBM from the 80's than Apple from the 90's. Sad but true. Changing of the guard is needed.

Please share your wizardry. My 6S hits low battery around 1pm sometimes. I'm a heavy user and it's sounds like you are too.

When I had an issue with my iPhone 5, which first arrived with a defective camera and then with both paint chipping and something loose inside the device near the camera assembly and my carrier refused a third swap, and I wasn't about to accept a refurb from the Apple Store, I sent Cook's San Fran office an e-mail. They responded within a day and, long story short, I ended up with a brand new, sealed iPhone 5 sent directly from Apple. But I had a real issue. This kind of thing seems premature to me.

After reading the first post, I realize why everyone is criticizing the OP. The email is not even remotely professional. If it were addressed to me, it would promptly be deleted.

The email is not unprofessional.

The only word asterisked out, is a genuine, actually non-offensive description of Samsung's software. In no way is the email offensive, or rude or even unprofessional towards Tim Cook or Apple.

I don't think that's really quite what "professional" is referring to.

It did come off as a bit unnecessary. Why are you giving him ultimatums? Just don't buy the phone if you aren't happy with the specs.

I was making it clear, that, as a loyal iPhone customer and getting tired of Apple's standstill approach to the iPhone, he would lose my custom. I also say I'm prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Tim Cook is not some God that you dare not criticise. That's the feeling I'm getting from the tone of your message.

I'm sure Apple has noted your concerns.
