Because people are never known to set inaccurate alarms themselves right? :)

I dont understand your logic.

Are you suggesting that I am as likely to set my alarm as accurately as voice recognition, or my reading comprehension skills are lacking to the point where I cant tell time correctly?

I'm pretty sure I know what time I need to be alarmed. I'm also quite aware of what numbers I'm reading as I set an alarm.

I don't understand how some people can say that this is stupid and that they won't use it after day 1... I can not wait to just speak a text message instead of typing it, or reply to this forum by talking instead of typing... It will be so nice to tell my phone to set an alarm clock instead of opening it up and doing it. I also put my work schedule in my phone, it normally takes 3-4 minutes for each week. This will now take 1 minute!

I question how detailed you will be able to be with your calendar events. Will you be able to verbally set the length of the appointment? Will you be able to verbally set alerts about a calendar event? Will you be able to verbally set your calendar event to a specific calendar?

I am now telling the Siri *exactly* what it can do with a life time supply of chocolate.

Android has been doing this for a couple years now.

I was doing it using Dragon Dictation on my iPhone as well.

finally.. everything a guy needs in life, right on his cell phone.

Siri comes with support for UK English, according to the keynote.

But will it pick up regional dialects? It may be alright with someone speaking in a Home Counties accent, but what about a Brummie, a Yam Yam, a Mackem, A Geordie etc etc..

I can see myself using it pretty regularly. When somebody recommends a restaurant, instead of loading up my notes app and thumbing it in. Should be a convenient way to Yelp things, too.

Modern technology: Tens of billions of dollars of research to shave off a few seconds here and there.

As computational power improves and these things get real world use/feedback, this will ultimately lead to the end of the smartphone. At least in the form thart we currently see it in. This will lead to either a contact lens or projection glasses where the screen is projected in front of you and the primary means of interaction is done by voice. I expect that in 5 years this technoloy will be ubiquitous and cheap (the virtual assistant part that is).

You are so right -- augmented reality is coming, and it looks like Apple is going to be a big player.

I use Dragon all the time on my iPhone to send text messages. I'm waiting for Siri to take it to the next level and become far more functional than simple "Speech to text"

Apple has wisely called this one a Beta...expect improvements and an eventual API for developers but until then people have to become more used to giving commands to their phone.

From an Accessibility standpoint this is a home run. I've personally trained people with low vision on Dragon NaturallySpeaking and the impact on their life is huge. Being able to read back emails and respond makes the vision impaired people feel connected again.

I'm curious if Siri will able to do multiple things using one command, example, "Set four alarms starting 06:00 AM at an interval of 20 minutes". If it can, that's a huge thing. It'll be very useful for me, because I have a tendency to set multiple alarms at an interval to avoid oversleeping :) :).

Super excited about Siri!!!

Siri just keeps yelling at you until you get up :D

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8L1 Safari/6533.18.5)

I hope Siri will open the pod bay door ;)

(sorry, I was watching 2001 earlier today)

I'm pretty sure I know what time I need to be alarmed. I'm also quite aware of what numbers I'm reading as I set an alarm.

I can't suggest anything regarding the comparison of fail ratios of A.I. and you, since we don't know anything about the failure rate of Siri yet.

But I know that in my lifetime I have inaccurately set some alarms. I'm sure everyone has. So doing it yourself is not 100% fool proof. That was my point.

Opening this up to developers with an API would create a ton of new possibilities. I really hope they do this soon.

Also, what if there was a quicker way to start your command, possibly pressing both volume buttons or sweeping from the bottom or something?

Again - how much time is that really going to save? You'll click on the home button, speak and then it will open vs you just tapping the app directly?

The same types of things were said about command lines, then mice, then keyboard shortcuts, then touch, now voice. Today it might have minor drawbacks, but I'm betting it will share equal footing with your current preferred methods in the very near future.

If I had to set my alarm, id want to see that its CORRECT. I wouldnt want to wake up to an alarm that can be set wrong with voice recognition that isnt 100% accurate.

It shows you what it has set and ask to confirm that it right...

I forgot all about that, but I still can't tell because it's still cheating :p

This is what I'm waiting for: an Android version of it.... Now that's going to be very funny! Or better yet: a Windows Phone 7 version! LMFAO

Android version:

User: " where is the closest exit to cupertino? "
Android's Soru: " what ROM do you want to use? "

Windows Phone version:

User: " where is the closest exit to cupertino? "
Windows' Suri: " calling your mom.... "
