Thats why I am posting from a kinkos with a new ID i created here. I forgot to mention all the iphone apps are available to to download on tablet.

The one I had was a 10" screen. The keyboard was the same as the iphone, just bigger. My girlfriend used it and it kind of annoyed her because she types with her nails and it wouldnt pick up the key strokes when she did. For me it was fine. You are not going to type a college thesis on this thing but it is great for emailing and most other basic computer functions. It is more of hunt and peck typing but once you get used to it, you can move pretty quick. It also had an HDMI hook up to play movies on my TV, we both liked that.

Thanks for posting. You sound completely believable.

I can't imagine working on the 10" screen. As much as I want one of these, I still don't understand how the device can match the comfort of a laptop, in particular, typing and screen management.

My wife and I are setting money aside to purchase the unit. We're managing our expectations though, given that Apple gouges us when introducing new products.

I dont think it will ever replace a laptop or PC, but it can very easily replace a netbook. Another guy I know that was beta testing it too used it as his primary PC, he works for apple though and is the one who hooked me up in the program. He said it took getting used too, but wanted to give a full evaluation thats why he replaced his laptop with it. I talked to him last week about it after we wrote our final evaluations and he said he couldn't have that replace his laptop forever, but it was fine in the interim.

Well, as long as the price isn't comparable to a laptop it all sounds good. Most of the time I expect to use it for watching TV shows and movies while peddling an exercise bike.

How much memory did yours have?

250 Gb hard drive 2GB ram. I have no idea about price, no one would tell me. Oh yeah I forgot to mention the TV. I brought it all over the house, in the bathroom, garage, bedroom, kitchen and never missed a second of TV even when I walked my dog in the back yard.

i hope it has:

1) HD streamed playback without stuttering, maybe with some new codec or something

2) no fans

3) doesn't get hot enough to fry an egg on it

4) some kind of mass-market outside-US alternative for 3G subscription.

5) SSD only. no moving parts, like the iPhone

It is exactly like an iphone with no camera, replacable battery, did not get hot, but got a little warm after extended use. It has USB ports (2), HDMI port, headphone jackAll of the video functions were flawless.

No surprises there

I actually just finished Beta testing an Apple tablet. I had it since September and have just gave it back last Monday. I have to admit it was one of the coolest things i ever played with. Apple has a few things worked out to use on the tablet like magazines and other books. They paid for me to have a monthly subscription of People, mens health and a few others. It was awesome!! On the delivery day a notification popped up and told me this months issue was available. The magazine was perfect and the coolest thing was on the ads, when I saw something I liked, I clicked on it and it took me to their site. The books were pretty cool. Not too much different then the kindle, but any word I had trouble on I clicked and it defined it. It connected to the internet via wi fi and was pretty easy to use and fast. Honestly I cant wait to get it back. It didnt replace my laptop but was awesome for carrying around on planes. The battery was good, but didnt last as long as I would like. It tended to die after about 3 hours of use. Thats pretty good but I would like 8 hours like a lot of netbooks have. It also synched with my itunes for music. It is probably the coolest gadget I ever used.

Assuming that what you say is true, I see no surprises whatsoever and between smart phone and laptop I see not need in such device. Take it on the plane? This would be nice but not for $1000. $1000 takes it way beyond impulse/xMas-gift type buying. Besides, we have to carry our laptops on the planes anyway so what's the point

I could read all those magazines on my laptop just fine too (if someone would pay for subscription :) )

So, it's smart phone when outside, laptop when home or in office and tablet when ... in a kitchen?

How does it stream TV shows? Over Wi-Fi from iTunes?

Mine had no 3g card or wireless capabilities outside of wifi. I have no idea what the cost will be but if apple does what it normally does, it will start out at $1000 and in 6 months drop it to 800 for Xmas 2010

It uses Apple TV and you could get podcasts and movies downloaded from itunes. The one my friend had was able to rent movies from Netflix and had video chat with a built in webcam. I guess they were testing out different things with different people.

6) The largest shipping OLED screen is from LG at 15" costing $2600. Before that, Sony had a OLED TV at 11" costing $2500. And neither of those devices have sold at the volume which an Apple product would sell at (even the AppleTV sold 1 million units in the first year, I doubt the Sony OLED TV has hit that much since it's been out in Dec. 2007). Even if an Apple tablet were to use at 6-8" OLED screen, I think everyone can see the silliness in suggesting any use of OLED within the next year or two
Yeah, and OLED's have a really short life and different colors die at different times and whatnot. I know I said this a million times, but I'm going to keep saying it until the pro-OLED people actually acknowledge this.

I find it funny that you expect people to believe you, yet I find it funnier that people actually do believe you. *sigh*

Netflix sounds interesting.

So, his tablet aims at not so clear segment. Most internet tablets (like Archos 5/7) are smaller and have no hard drive. Bigger size + hard drive means:

* shorter battery life (i.e. less portable)
* bigger screen - better browsing/viewing experience
* higher price
* higher price -> not a children toy (which cheaper netbooks and tablets might be)

So far treadmill is the only undisputably good idea :) I can see certain type of people bringing these tablets to gyms :p

Still not clear what will differentiate it from cheaper offerings.

Yyyyyeeeeeaaaahh.....

I've got money on you being FULL of it. I mean, it's a cute little charade and all, and what you're saying is probably mostly true.... but... Rrrreeeaaaalllyy??? Got a pic of this thing or what? Plastic or Aluminum? OSX or BabyOS? No camera seems wierd, but could change. Any stylus input? is it pressure sensitive? Does it run iPhone apps? And replaceable battery? Yeah, right! I mean WTF, It sounds to me like you're making it up as you go along.

With regards to the Apple TV, was it something you had set up before you were given the unit? I'm assuming it wasn't a special Apple TV.

The time is short compared to the lifetimes of your standard LCD or plasma HDTV of 60,000 hours (which would last 20.54 years at 8 hrs a day or 6.85 years if run constantly). The blue organic material in an OLED gets around 17,000 which is about 5.82 years at 8 hrs a day or 1.94 years if run constantly.

It's not that OLEDs will never be used, but they aren't cost effective and reasonable right now. In a few years, definitely, since the process of an OLED screen is conceptually FAR easier to make.

1) Does it have Bluetooth connectivity for keyboards and mice?
2) Does it sync for connectivity when WiFi isn't available?
3) Does it have a plastic or aluminum back?
4) Care to share any photos you may have taken?
5) Does it run OSX?
6) SDD? Walking around with a standard hard drive is bound to cause problems.
