I think it might be true.

I ordered one yesterday from the Apple Store for delivery by April 12.

I went to Best Buy tonight to see the iPad not expecting any stock.

They had plenty and I bought a 32 gig model. I cancelled the Apple Store order in Best Buy.

The salesman said they got far more inventory than they expected.

BTW

I love it!

Not that many people knew about Apple until the iPhone was released, now that so many people now see what Apple is the more people who buy their products.

Not To Be Ignorant

NOT TO BE IGNORANT, but there are alot of stupid folks that don't know how great a device this is. To complain about a camera is stupid, the iPad is very good, and the applications are hot. I love it. Anyone stupid enough to hold up an ipad to take photos needs to get there head examined and real quick :D.

That's what they make iPhone's for, duh!

Anyway, it's easily to believe as I was in chicago, and the lines were round the block and hundreds of people were in line. To say, it's not possible, is ignorant.

To beautiful to describe

I did the first test of watching hulu on this thing, and its amazing.

I'd post a screen shot but , does anyone know if the NDA is officially lifted.

Right now the app I'm working on works in compatibility mode, but the video content looks really amazing.

Hulu streamed from the playon media server is unbelievable, I'd be surprised if the official app whenever its released can surpass this.

Dallas observation: We asked the Apple rep who helped us buy our iPad how it compared to iPhone sales and he said: "iPhone and iPhone 3G lines went all the way through the mall, this isn't even close". We picked up an iPad fairly easily.

Ever heard of iPod, the most popular portable music player of the past decade?

Um, Google: short ipad queue myth

Grrr, so sad to see all these happy iPad users while I am sitting here waiting for them to announce a date for the 3G one. Its really driving me crazy, I hope they make some announcement this week on when they are going to release them.

More then anything, I really hope they do reservations for them. I feel like I might have gotten screwed by not pre-ordering :(

Nah....

The iPhone was way more anticipated and the iPad have been attacked way too much by the press paid by the frustrated competitors.

The original iPhone was panned quite a bit on price and screen keyboard. Glass screen too.

The iPad has a huge built-in audience. Everyone with an iPhone or iPod Touch should have a pretty good grasp of what to expect.

I think the estimates are difficult because of the pre-orders and splitting people waiting for the 3G model.

That said, I swung by Best Buy this morning looking for accessories and it was dead. People were curious but not buying.

Reserved this and got it after waiting only ten minutes in line. This was the first time I had experienced an apple product launch and it was quite enjoyable (the employees giving high fives was quite amusing). I am also typing this using my iPad and have had very little trouble, a truly great product!

I'm really not surprised, and I expect it will keep on selling. It's not a limited interest device. It's something new. People may have said that the personal computer was something very few people would ever need or want in the past, but now it's odd to see a house without one. It's a whole new class of device. It's really revolutionary, and I expect it will become just as ubiquitous as the PC, the MP3 player and the smartphone - add multi-touch tablet to that list.

Thats insane, very good news for Apple and its stock holders. But it is a little scary that that many people would buy a iPad without any first hand experience with the product. I'm not saying the iPad is not a very compelling device but I fell I need to use it before buying it.

First hand experience? Over 75 million people already have experience. They're called the iPhone and iPod Touch.

And this was exactly Apple's strategy, and Steve Job's quote in the last keynote.

If you want it, just order it and get it delivered for free.

Exactly the iphone was panned by as many critics if not more than the ipad although it seems the ipad seems to be more hated. The iphone sales shut the critics up, hopefully the ipad numbers will too.

Assuming only the basic wifi version sold, that's over $300 million bucks.

Can someone lend me $499? I'll be your friend forever. for serious.

Unlikely because I think it's too limited (albeit well-executed) a device to have a very broad appeal and anything nearing 700K in the first day would indicate a much broader appeal than I would ever have guessed. It really feels like another AppleTV to me--a niche thing that Apple can grow, make more appealing down the road.

Having said all that, I'll also say I'm always open to the possibility that I am wrong. :)

I think you better start coming to grips with the idea that you are wrong.

People were complaining about a lack of camera for video conferencing, not to take photos!

It had me at "hello"

I will admit to being one of the people who swore up and down that I would not get an iPad. I went into my Apple Specialist today just to see if they got some. They only had 15 (5 of each model) so they were sold out by the time I got there this afternoon. I played around with a demo unit and said "Yep I want it!" even though I swore up and down I would never buy one of those silly iPads. I went over to Best Buy and they still had plenty of 32 GB and 64 GB models in stock. The 16 GB seemed to sell out first. Anyhow I ended up buying a 32 GB model. Remember this is coming from a person who thought the iPad was a dumb idea. I still love my Droid and my iMac, but this will work as a laptop replacement for me since I am a very light user when I am on the go. I save anything heavy duty for the iMac at home. I also have a 12" HP Elite Book Tablet PC supplied by the school where I teach so I am covered.

Tonight I came over to my parent's place. My parents are in their late 60's to early 70's and they thought the iPad was great. My mom said, "It's an iPod for the old people!" haha It sort of made me laugh because I am 33 so I don't think I am old, but they seemed to think it was just great. They would have a terrible time using anything but a standard desktop computer so for them to pick up a brand new portable device like this and start using it I thought was pretty amazing. iPods and smart phones would give them fits, but they seem to think the iPad was made just for them.
