I want the best "small" form factor available. I'll purchase the 9/SE when it is released and if the 5.4" iPhone 12 fits that bill then I'll purchase that as well. While the X, Xs and 11 Pro "looks" the same size as the 6/6s/7/8, I found the difference noticeable and did not care for them.

So did a family member who is clinging to their 7. I really hope the 5.4" size is real. Otherwise it's a 9/SE for them...

There is still a ton of iPhone 6 models out there. My two sons, 13 & 14, each have an iPhone 6. They are very eager for the new iPhone SE. I suspect Apple will see a lot of upgrades to the new iPhone SE from old iPhone 6 models.

...that makes it the only current generation iPhone capable of being used to make secure contactless payments without taking off a mask.

You could just enter your 6-digit pin. ;-)

Good old Apple watch series one works fantastic for apple Pay. Wake it up, douple-tap that side button, approach payment terminal.

But yeah, FaceID would piss me off in these mask wearing times.

So is the 5.4” 12 suppose to be a dumbed down version of the flagship 12? If so, that makes the SE/9 an even better guy for a fraction of the cost.

just give us a damn small phone with the latest and greatest. There is shockingly still a large market for that.

I’m soo excited for the new SE. I still have the original SE and while it has the perfect form factor and is speedy enough for my needs the battery performance is a joke. Not so much of an issue now I’m at home all day thanks to the pandemic, but on any normal work day it would barely last me 3 hours of usage. My battery percentage is at 87%, so imo it doesn’t even warrant a battery change.

I can’t wait to get the new SE though. Finally time to update to a newer phone with all the cool specs and everything, I’ll be pleasantly surprised coming from a 4 year old device. My only issue is the size is still far too big for me, I think I’ll keep my cuurent SE or get a new ipod touch as a light secondary device I can comfortably use at home/gym in one hand.

With the current economic uncertainty, it could make a lot of sense to launch a low-cost iPhone. $399?

Let’s say it starts at ~$399 as you’re asking (Similarly to what the 2016 SE started at) . I don’t necessarily believe a $399 price point will ultimately make this the ‘success point’ for this new iPhone, being are consumers really upgrading their tech items right now given the economic conditions? I’d say they’re not, as long as the phone is working perfectly fine, a new iPhone probably isn’t a priority on their list/deemed as ‘non-essential’. But globally for a price point at $399, I think the phone would do very well long-term, but I don’t think it would be a ‘sell-out’ given how things are currently in the economy.

This. Though my SE will be going to my stepson, who will be making the transition from Android. Fresh battery in it, it's doing OK.

However, I’m more interested in the next A14 iPhones, and even more interested in the next iPad Pros with A14X and 5G (and perhaps mini-LED and perhaps even Thunderbolt).
Thunderbolt, as far as I know, is restricted to x86 CPU, like from AMD and Intel because it is included in the Chipset. ARM-based devices can't get access to Thunderbolt. So, I don't think the iPad Pros will ever get Thunderbolt.

Small factor it what will make the difference now! We need small ERGONOMIC phones! We don't need a 6.7" phones!

Would an iPhone 9 / SE have dual SIM
I hope Apple TV is refreshed alongside iPhone 9
Public Service Announcement:
Now that we’ve seen the SE name leaked, on Apple’s own website & there’s no longer any chance it may be called an iPhone 9. We can all refer to it as the SE, rather than the SE/iPhone 9 or the iPhone 9.

Probably we are going through very hard times in the next months, so if you are not rich don't spend your money buying new devices unless they are strictly needed.

These are news from almost one month ago, but worth reading it:

In my opinion, if people want a bargain device, the iPhone 8 will be the model to buy once this new iPhone SE/9 is released. I think Apple knows that too and have been waiting to exhaust their iPhone 8 supply, for I've been waiting over a month for various iPhone 8's that I ordered for coworkers from AT&T, whereas iPhone 7+ devices are still delivered in a matter of days. If you gifted the average person a new iPhone sans the box, 99% of those folks couldn't tell the difference between an iPhone 7, 8, or 9. The only thing Apple could do that would impress me here, is to include USB-C. This would get the EU off their back, and might possibly boost their iPad Pro sales for folks like me who refuse to by into ecosystems unless they share the same cables.

Right, but the iPhone 8 is not. And it’s the same form factor so there may not be. eSIM is only available on the X models and up

Fair, but just because the 5S had certain hardware features, doesn't mean the SE didn't get any upgrades in comparison to that chassis.

I’d love dual sim to be included, it would be especially useful for me because I travel between countries a lot (edit; obviously not now during the pandemic) but I’m not holding my breath.
