Now that we’ve seen the SE name leaked, on Apple’s own website & there’s no longer any chance it may be called an iPhone 9. We can all refer to it as the SE, rather than the SE/iPhone 9 or the iPhone 9.

I didn’t think it was actually leaked on their own site. I thought people were just making up URLs and SE unsurprisingly exist? I know there was Verizon documents that said iPhone 9.

What is your source? There are still mixed messages to what it is going to be called. One of the most current rumors by Jon Prosser, who is saying it will be announced April 15th, called it the iPhone 9.

Watching people use FaceID for contactless payment at the supermarket has always been a laughriot, even before it carried a potentially life-threatening / plague-vector risk.

It took about three attempts with the iPhone X to realize the process was different from the Touch ID phones. With Touch ID you hold it up to the reader and place your thumb on the sensor at the same time. With Face ID you make a slightly deliberate move where you unlock it infront of your face while bringing it down to the card reader. Pretty easy, just different.

Thunderbolt, as far as I know, is restricted to x86 CPU, like from AMD and Intel because it is included in the Chipset. ARM-based devices can't get access to Thunderbolt. So, I don't think the iPad Pros will ever get Thunderbolt.
That is not technically correct AFAIK. However, it’s currently cheaper in cost and power utilization on Intel because it is built in.

The leak was from the Apple website/online store & was covered everywhere from tech blogs to Forbes... the official listing for a screen protector for an iPhone 8 was updated to mention that it fits an SE as well.

Jesus ****, can we quit quoting this buffoon please?? As I pointed out like 15 posts back- he was publicly ridiculed yesterday for his ignorant and outlandish “reporting” that Apple is planning to abandon the Beats name. Lol, I feel like that’s literally all you need to know about him to form an opinion on the veracity of his claims.

Again there are other conflicting rumors - I just mentioned that one because the poster above me listed the Verizon one. The Apple Website/online store was also debunked as the one for the iphone-7 link does the same thing. So the iphone-se link is probably an OLD reference/link rather than a placeholder for the new device.. Forbes hasn't been a credible source for years. Also the official listing was a Belkin product, not Apple's.

I didn't really care what it was called before, but I want it to be called something other than the SE now just so you can be wrong! ;)

In my opinion, if people want a bargain device, the iPhone 8 will be the model to buy once this new iPhone SE/9 is released. I think Apple knows that too and have been waiting to exhaust their iPhone 8 supply, for I've been waiting over a month for various iPhone 8's that I ordered for coworkers from AT&T, whereas iPhone 7+ devices are still delivered in a matter of days. If you gifted the average person a new iPhone sans the box, 99% of those folks couldn't tell the difference between an iPhone 7, 8, or 9. The only thing Apple could do that would impress me here, is to include USB-C. This would get the EU off their back, and might possibly boost their iPad Pro sales for folks like me who refuse to by into ecosystems unless they share the same cables.

And here we have a winner. The iPhone 8 is the most underrated phone that’s not in Apple’s current lineup, but it’s still plenty capable in terms of what it offers with A11 Bionic, wireless charging, dual camera (for the Plus model), true tone, stereo speakers, etc.

You can actually find these phone slashed through carriers, but what Doesn’t get discussed enough, the iPhone 8 was one of the only iPhones towards the end of that ‘specific generation’, that had very few hardware issues. It literally is a ‘bulletproof phone’ that has plenty of extended performance moving into iOS future updates

Well considering Telstra’s 5G is still in its early stages (it has spread to where I live however), I don’t mind if the new iPhones are delayed till October as hopefully Telstra will get rid of that stupid charge for 5G by then.

well lets see who is still able to afford the iPhone 12 by the end of the year once the next great recession kicks in
It’ll be interesting to see how Apple prices these soon to be ALL-OLED iPhone 12’s.
There’s a reason why the iPhone 11 was so popular...it didn’t have a four figure price tag.

I'm gonna buy this so fast when it comes out. My current phone is the original SE, which I love, and I love the small form factor, but it's only 16gb. So every time I try to update my apps, it says I don't have enough space. Though I'm not fond of the larger size of this new SE. I'm just gonna buy it because of the price and much larger storage capacity.

Why not buy another SE on Swappa? That gets up 128GB of storage.
Or better yet, buy an iPhone 8. Then you get more RAM, up to 256GB of storage, a faster A11 CPU, and wireless charging.

By waiting a bit (a week or less?) he could essentially get an 8 with an A13, possibly an updated camera, for a similar price, yeah? We don't know about the other stuff like wireless charging et al. Then he's got two generations of processor newer, add on a couple years of life.

I've been hoping for an updated compact phone for years now. The smaller the better- iPhone 4 size would be great. My SE is on it's last leg. I guess those days are over. Kinda sad.
Why on last leg? My SE still runs great. Meaning, it runs everything and it’s not slow. BUT there was some kind of recent update or something that took a toll on my battery life. When using safari, sometimes it continually drains 1 percent every 7 seconds until I exit. But not always, it’s weird.

With a 4.7" screen, 3 GB RAM, and A13 SoC, it definitely will last 4 years (assuming you don't drop it on the sidewalk).

Nope.

The A13 is faster than A12Z in just one measure. The A12Z (and A12X for that matter) is faster than A13 in everything else, and by a very large margin.

Except this isn’t accurate. The only thing better with the A12X is the GPU. Otherwise almost every benchmark is in favour of the A13.

I'll be buying a new SE (in June I'm guessing) to replace my iPhone 6s +. I like the smaller size, and as time goes on, I use the device more and more as just a phone/podcast music player, so the bigger screen isn't needed. i'm hoping to get 3 good years out of it, till the new iPhones have removed the notch mostly, and gotten in finger display as well as face id. hopefully the 256 gig option is less than $600, and the rumors of the new leather cases (and maybe the old ones fitting) remain true.

Not even close.

In multithreaded CPU performance, A12X/A12Z is roughly 30%-35% faster than A13.

As for GPU performance, A12Z is roughly 50% faster than A13.

USB 4.0 ~= Thunderbolt
According to Mr. Kuo, Apple will be taking its time with USB 4.0, at least with Macs. He is predicting USB 4 Macs in 2022.

Thus, I am not optimistic for USB 4 iPad Pros in fall/winter 2020. However, there's still hope for mini-LED iPad Pros.

First, if I'm wearing a mask I'm also wearing gloves. But also, Apple Watch does contactless payments just fine, with both mask & gloves on :)

TouchID works through thin enough gloves, but yes, that's why I specified the only phone that works for contactless now.

Wake it up, douple-tap that side button, approach payment terminal.

that doesn't seem much better than FaceID - the beauty of TouchID is you can just take the phone out of your pocket and hold it to the reader, no waking it up, no button presses etc. As Mr Goldblum used to say, "there's no step three".

The subtlety of the difference is that with TouchID, your thumb can naturally sit on the home button when you take the phone out of a pocket, so it's just one movement - withdraw phone from pocket and place against reader. No waking it up, no button presses - it's no more fiddly than using a tap to pay credit / debit card, it just has the advantage of biometric locking.

It's by far the single most elegant and frictionless thing Apple has ever done.

All I want is USB-C iPhone. Just one charger for all would be cool....

Unfortunately there are a lot of other people who would accuse Apple of forcing them to spend money on new charging cables. (Regardless of the fact that the phone comes with a charging cable)
