Apple Execs:
"We have to find a way to make the iPhone 5C worse than the iPhone 5S, because we dont have the ideas to make the iPhone 5S that much better than a cheap model."

This pretty much sums up why the cheaper model might not have Siri. It isn't new though, Apple cripples hardware and software just to make people upgrade:rolleyes:

This 5C phone is as much about eliminating the 30-pin connector from Apple products as it is anything else, IMO.

With Tim Cook being all hot and bothered about iOS in the Car, I can't see Siri being left out. Indeed, I would predict that Siri will spread to the whole product line quite soon.

I don't see Apple doing that, and I don't think they have ever removed stuff from existing products as you say.

Siri is integral to their ecosystem.

I predict he's wrong about the lack of Siri.

I predict he's correct. Siri is a gimmick that was designed to give Apple something to brag about. Once available to the public only those who love to show of flaunted it to their admirers. It grabbed headlines as the novelty it is, and the less than tech savy people were highly amused. Now that Apples faces a serious challenge from Google Now, a highly useful tool, they've got their work cut out for them.

Leaving Siri out of the Cheap iPhone only makes that model more attractive to those of us that are not ready to give up on Apple. Instead we use the ever so wonderful Galaxy S4, a Nexus 4, HTC One, or some other highly useful and very enjoyable Android as our primary phones. Our iPhone is relegated to a secondary placeholder as we wait for Apple to do something relevant.

It WILL Have Siri! Wtf? The iPhone 4S, the iPod touch, the iPad mini, and the iPad 3 all have Siri, the iPhone 5C WILL have Siri. Mark my words, that's one of the biggest selling points of iOS devices and there is no was apple would ruin a device by doing something so foolish as to not include Siri!

Leaving out no-incrmental-cost features for marketing reasons is the walking talking definition of "milking the customers instead of producing value for the money".

Which is exactly why I can't see Apple leaving out Siri.

Same thing for any company and their models. Some have features that the lower models don't. But hey lets go out and only blame Apple for doing this when everyone else does across all platforms, from appliances, to cars, to computers, phones, tablets, etc.

If the lower cost iPhone were to come without Siri, I would see that as evidence that the licensing costs for voice recognition from Nuance are significant. Not some ham-handed attempt at differentiation.

If it will without i'd prefer to buy an old iphone5 then....would be a wrong move.

The chances of Siri not being on the 5c are like Apple not making the screen non-retina. It just won't happen.

Non-retina screen could happen on a _really cheap_ phone. Like one that sells for a third of the price of an iPhone 5. It _would_ save cost and allow to make the phone cheaper. Leaving Siri out doesn't save any cost.

It can only get better though. Yes, it's very limited in it's uses right now. I'm hoping they actually devote a minute or two at the next iPhone event to show off some of the improvements. Making her voice sound more natural is a decent start as well as making a male voice available(I'm sure the women will like this) as well as making it available in other languages are all decent improvements. Yes, there's room for a lot more work to be done. I only use it for dictation and making reminders but I can't help but feel this is obviously going to have huge improvements every year. It's the future. Even doing math calculations is really handy with Siri.

Exactly!

Which is exactly why I suggested that if Apple leaves out Siri, there must be some sort of significant incremental cost involved (Nuance licensing.) :)

If it will without i'd prefer to buy an old iphone5 then....would be a wrong move.

How would that be the wrong move? Considering you would go with a higher priced model? :)

If this thing will cost $300, as the article suggest, then Apple will probably have a huge hit on their hands. It would be an iPod Touch with phone capabilities for only $70 more (iPod Touch is $229).

Well, if this is true it's further proof that Cook doesn't have a damn clue about how Apple has achieved its success in the last 10 years. Facts:

- The company should strive for the best, not the cheapest;

- "Emerging markets" are gigantic by definition and actually richer than most "industrialized markets" nowadays, at least in absolute terms. There is absolutely NO NEED for Apple to cater to the bottom of the barrel - by doing so, Apple is just cutting further on its margins, just like what happens with the iPad mini.

APPLE IS DEAD.

You sir get it. Apple is not dead though. But the rest is smack bang right dead on. Apple made it's money by quality over quantity. Worrying about quantity first is not Apple. It's just wrong.

I hope Apple is doing this as a test case and not concrete plans.

Talk about over-generalizing based on your own preferences. Well done!

Especially if you pretend the iMac, Mac mini, iPod mini, iPod nano, and iPod Shuffle didn't exist. :)

None, absolutely NONE of the examples above apply to the situation I am describing:

- the iMac was and is by far the best AIO available;

- the Mac mini has excellent build quality, unique design and constitutes the best way as an entry-level Mac;

- all the iPods mentioned above never had anything to do with "selling cheapo to the masses", are built in metal, feel solid, have great design and remain unsurpassed in their respective segments to this day;

- LAST BUT NOT LEAST: the smartphone market is way more disputed than any other these days, which cheaper and high-quality Android solutions already available in droves. The SLIGHTLY lower iPhone 5C price will do nothing to increase penetration in "emerging markets", especially since these were ALREADY buying iPhones like bananas.

Unless you think Apple will sell such crap to impoverished/underdeveloped places like Detroit, of course.

The "APPLE IS DEAD" bit is just an old, trademarked statement of mine - but you get the drill.

You really think there is a possibility that Apple doesnt give a retina display in this new iPhone 5C?

Come on man.

Isn't it supposed to be a cheaper phone? Apple launched the iPad Mini without Retina, right?
Retina display is not a vital feature that would affect the phone's functionality. It's just a convenience to the user. Before Apple released a Retina display, nobody really cared about it. If you want the Retina display, just buy the regular iPhone.
