Very disappointed. Not surprised if this is true, but still disappointed. If this comes to pass, I will be switching in June then to an Android phone. Sad, 'cause I love the phone, but I can't stand AT&T.

AT&T is horrible

I just don't get it... I have CONSTANT dropped calls daily. So much so that I have a cheap-o cell phone from Verizon with no data plan just so I can have a phone that works. I would love to have them tied to the same number so that they both ring... I know that is impossible, but that is how bad it is. :(

It is sad that this might be the actual cause of the cheaper price for the ipad connectivity. I have a few neighbors that are on T-Mob and keep asking me questions of the deal with ATT/Apple, I tell them to keep reading and just wait. Maybe , just Maybe Apple will offer to Tmob. I left ATT almost a year gone now and unlocked my iPhone to run on Tmobs network, because of the lack of support I received from ATT and I had been a customer since 2002. The mysterious charges to numbers that I never called nor called my phone.

Only time will tell what is truth and what is a smokey mist

I drive 4 hours almost every other weekend, and out of those 4 hours, I have 1.5hrs of straight "No Service." And yet AT&T's map shows they have coverage in those spots. BS.

I hope Sprint's upcoming "Beyond Talk" plan will force AT&T and Verizon to offer cheaper plans. (300 minutes, unlimited text/data for $25/mo.)

I hardly ever use my phone, so I've got around 5,000 rollover minutes that I will never, ever use, and never will use. So staying with AT&T for rollover minutes is not appealing to me.

Maybe if a Verizon iPhone comes out next year, I can convince them to pay to cancel my contract with AT&T so I can switch.

Or, and this is a WAG, maybe Apple has absolutely no desire to make two versions of the iPhone and ATT will have default exclusivity until 4G arrives (when ATT and V will have compatible networks).

Apple and Verizon are still slamming each other in commercials. Why do that if you are about to become partners?

Sounds more likely than all the ANALyst BS we get. Much more likely.

This guy is just guessing. Basically he's saying that because the iPad has unlimited data for 30 bucks, it means Apple extended the deal, real sound. Apple need to get the iphone on Verizon before Android takes all those customers. You can only grow on AT&T at least in the United States for only so long.

With Apple doing yet another deal with ATT over the extreme faults in their wireless network.... it is clear that Apple is favoring wireless monthly income over their customers needs for a good wireless network.

Sorry Apple, your profits are more than big oil, its time to start opening up your products to more partners and stop with ATT exclusivity.

I had 6+ dropped calls yesterday.

I see such AT&T hate here when Verizon is no different. Goes to show the blind fanboyisn present. iPhone on Verizon isn't going to happen anytime soon and that report is semi acurate. It's 1 year not 6 months.

Dude Apple is not getting no monthly income from wireless.

Verizon...Exciting and Scary

I am excited for the iPhone to be available on Verizon's network. At the same time I am scared. The reason that I am scared is that Verizon is known for disabling features on phone,s that are free on other networks, so they can charge you. Will Steve Jobs work this out so they can't continue this practice with the iPhone?

And I am desperately in need of a new phone, so I am waiting to see what's going to happen at WWDC.

Why are people surprised ?

Exclusivity with AT+T is at least through mid 2011.

When Apple announces an iPad or Touch with a camera, you will know that exclusivity is over.

I will be watching wwdc with great interest..
One way or another, I am getting a new phone next month. But there is NO way in hell i am staying with ATT. I am giving apple the benefit of the doubt and waiting for their official word but if they do not announce some kind of migration to another network at WWDC i am dropping their stock as well as my iphone. With the onslaught of android devices flooding the market I should think that they have enough sense to take it to the competition by offering iphone on more networks. So in june i will either be on sprint or verizon, likely either an Evo or Incredible purchaser. ATT has raked its customers over the coals for 3 years already- its time for a change.

Uhh, so the logic of the Article is that AT&T won the iPad, by submitting the best proposal, so Apple most have duked them something else? What would Apple have had to give Verizon, if they had submitted the winning bid. CDMA only for the next generation of iPhone? That would have gone over well in international markets.

I think in being the in Software, 3g provider AT&T got something that is exactly worth those plan prices.

Argh, when will people realize that your phone connectivity varies from where you are (i.e. no network is good everywhere). If Verizon works best in your area for you, why are you using an iPhone at all and not using a droid phone on Verizon ?

What does the presence of a camera module have anything to do with mobile operator exclusivity?

The iPhone is already on multiple carriers in many foreign markets. A camera isn't a "carrier-exclusive" hardware feature.

If the iPhone doesn't come to Verizon this year I plan on waiting for an iPod Touch refresh. No way in hell I'm switching carriers.

Enjoy your new iPod touch.

The iPhone isn't coming to Verizon this year.

If Apple really were planning on releasing an iPhone on Verizon, there would have been a noticeable hiring surge of CDMA phone engineers by Apple. There has been zero evidence indicating such (it would have been duly reported by the tech media).

My conclusion

This tells me that Verizon didn't try hard enough. I'm quite sure Apple talked to Verizon about the original iPhone and blew them off when they told them what AT&T was willing to give. I have no doubt the same thing is going on here for the iPad. It's pretty clear that Verizon doesn't care enough about Apple's products to want 85 million new customers. Okay, that's a stretch but not by much I'm sure.

It's a struggle of 2 companies who want full control of their devices and content. 2 greedy corporations that want to charge for all content. Their greed will never let them reach an agreement.... at least not one where the customer wins.

No iPhone for me

I don't have an iPhone because it is on AT&T. For that matter Verizon isn't much better. Until both AT&T and Verizon offer competitive rates (as compared to Sprint) I will never own an iPhone.

You are about as reliable source of information as a two year old or this supposed analyst.

I really hope so. I'm eligible to get a new phone in October with Verizon and an iPhone would really help with things that I do. I know there are other smart phones similar to it. But unless the Droid has an iTunes application, then I'm not interested. It would be nice to combine the functionality of my iTouch G1 with my phone.

Let's hope this IS a false report.

Try DoubleTwist. Never tried it, but heard it's the iTunes for Android.

I'm not trying to make some threat as if Apple would even care, but if the iPhone comes out on Verizon this year, I buy one. If it doesn't, I buy an Android device. I don't really feel as though I have a choice as I drop calls all the time with my current iPhone. I may jump back when LTE hits, but by then I would have my feet wet with Android and might not want to. Very, very strange that Apple wouldn't want to strike while the Android stuff is starting to pick up.

I have not experienced the problems most do with their iPhone. I travel up and down the east coast and my reception is great.

With that said even if the iPhone was offered on verizon the rates wouldn't be cheaper and in fact VZW could make them higher than ATT. It could be a rehash of what happened with Rogers in canada with the price for the data plan there.
