While I don't put much weight in all the speculation, I do hope it's true as I'm holding off upgrading my 3GS till the 5S comes out.

I'm not sure all the colours are a good idea though, they are very uninsiring shades and made the iPods look fugly. They also have trouble keeping up stock for just the white and black!!

I really hope the screen size is not true at all. If I wanted a tablet I would go get one. 4'' is fine, even then I thought the 3.5'' with a 4:3 aspect ratio of the 4 and 4s was really much better.

That's one great thing about Apple products is the resale value. You can upgrade very easily by selling your old product on eBay, Craigslist, etc.

I've got a 15" 2.7ghz MBP Retina on its way to me, and I'll sell my year old MBP for a pretty penny.

I would have bought it for at least 2 pretty pennies!

My phone now has just the right size screen. If it gets any larger I don't want it. I'm actually more excited about this one than any of the iPhones I've had. What do I have now? They call it the mini.

I'm holding out for teleportation.
:D Got da-- it! Youre a mess! LOL! :D

I keep thinking iPhone Mega or iPhone HD is a good name for this new item rather than iPhone 5

----------

I could see Apple releasing the 5S in June or there about. I could maybe see them increasing potential capacity to 128GB eventually. But much of this other stuff is crazy! I hope they don't go the route of a 4.8" screen! That is one of the worst features of Android phones! The iPhone needed an increase from 3.5", but those gigantic phones (like the SGS3) have just gotten grotesquely oversized! (Of course, that's just my opinion.) And Apple's devices are beautiful in the two colors they already offer... I'm not saying more choices are all bad, but 6-8 colors is petty ridiculous IMHO!!

Anyway, I just got my 5 less than a week ago, so I really don't care to start lusting over what they may release 6 or more months from now. I'm very happy with the 5!! Two things are for sure... Apple will release a new iPhone at some point next year, and it will have improvements. Aside from that, it's truly anyone's guess what it'll actually have.

Yeah but people have what's called remote control envy.

Yes, because we all know that the current iPhone design is conducive for NFC.

Oh, and how many times have we asked for 128 GB of storage?

Why would they remove the physical home button? It's sooo much more convenient than the touchbuttons all the competitors are using. I always manage to hit those touch buttons when I don't want to.

Obviously, to make room for a bigger screen.

If they do offer a larger version I would expect them to also still offer a 4" in the size of the 5 as the standard iPhone. I am thinking they would call the larger version the iPhone Pro or something to that effect.

I got so excited... Then a I read the 2nd comment :( I thought we actually had a real rumour. I really wanted colors, like really wanted them.

nope

When I saw 4.8" screen I knew this analyst is full of ****. Please stop posting what analysts think. we are all analysts and that would never happen.

I will settle for a 128GB option and more colors.

I'm assuming a 128GB model would mean the base model would start at 32GB, which would make sense with the discounted 4S starting at $99 right now. It's harder to talk someone up $100 when the storage is the same. I would probably go for a 64GB model because 16GB is KILLING ME but I don't think I would need to cram more than 100GB of stuff in there. I could easily do that with all my photos, music and videos (10 TB iPhone yet?), but I was very very comfortable with the space on my old 64GB iPad 2. And a lot of that was storing huge game apps and magazine downloads.

The color option would be nice because most cases don't cover the front. I like my white 4S, but I would rather have a red one with a fancy black case. But as someone else mentioned, Apple had better create some unified LTE model or else have a crapload of SKUs at third-party retailers. It sounds like T-Mobile will get the iPhone, so that would mean possibly four models if everything was the same color and storage capacity. Yikes.

I can reach the corners on the Galaxy S 3 fine with one hand.

What I'd truly love to see, is a 4.5" iPhone.

I think 4.5" is the perfect size, right in the middle with 3.5" being small, and 5.5" being large.

Imagine a retina 4.5" screen with 1080p. Android who? (and I love android).

They can always still offer a smaller phone for those who don't want the larger phone.

Ever better yet, over the 128GB storage, would be dropping the 16GB and making 32GB the minimum at $199.

I think the minimum would remain 16, jumping then to 64 and then 128... It just feels like thats the kind of thing apple would do.

Perhaps the iPad mini should have been a Phablet?
Should have, if they would build in the cel radio. You would make calls with blutooth headset or via speakerphone.

BTW there are plenty Android 7" phablets:

I don't care much about the accuracy of these predictions, but to settle the screen size 'debate', why not produce 2 new iPhones at the same time - a '5S' with the current 4" screen, and a '6' with a diagonally proportional bigger screen?

Whatever justification Apple claim's to be the best size for an iPhone in one's hand, the fact that the SG3 has sold millions reflects a strong preference with many people to indeed want a bigger screen.

And for those keen to have the current iPhone 5 sized screen, then continue this size in the 5S. We now have a choice of screen sizes in the iPad, so why not in the iPhone as well?!

Exactly. You beat me to it: offer 2 iPhones next release, one current size, one slightly bigger (a 4.5" is a great size, agree).

Hopefully not. A lot of people think the 3.5" iPhone 4 is already too big or almost too big. All my cell phones were smaller before my first iPhone. They need a small model to serve this market, and potentially also serve the more budget minded demographic segment.
It's not that the 3.5" iphone screen is "too big", but the actual iphone real estate is used inefficiently: too much of the top and buttom bazel wasting almost 43% of surface. A 3.5" phone could be actually much smaller.

Percentage of the phone front surface used by screen:
  • iPhone 4: 57.7%
  • iPhone 5: 67%
  • Galaxy S3: 73.6%
  • Galaxy Note 2: 75.5%

I'll have to search for the story again.

From what I recall, google maps was included with ios5, then deleted from ios§ in favor of apple's maps. Now, google is going to offer google maps again, but this time without turn by turn nav?

It's a bit confusing. It seems like there will be less functionality this time around, regardless.

I just don't understand why apple deleted google maps when it seemed to be working reasonably well, in favor of their own app which has heavily damaged their reputation

Apple NEEDS to get rid of the home button. Or, make it a lot smaller.
