Are you kidding me? iPhone users have no idea how small the screen really is. 4.8" would be great. But anymore more is much too big IMO.

But knowing Apple...

iPhone 5s with a 4.8" now it's even more taller. You get an extra row of icons!

Apple you need to think it both X and Y axis, not just Y.

Yup.

Let me tell you I used one of the very first big screen ANdriod phones (HTC sensation XL- 4.7 inch) and having a big phone is basically impractical. I was basically the slave to the phone cuz I could not do anything one-handedly and whenever I went out I could not have fun because I was too focussed on trying to fit the phone into my pocket. But I bet you know that already.

To each its own. To me the 4.8" Galaxy S3 is the best form factor I ever used. Not just me: this is a highly successful and popular phone. But of course the HTC sensation XL a bit thicker and much heavier phone.

The s3 is only THAT popular because Samsung pushes it like crazy and carriers and retailers around the world have been offering discounts and bonuses to consumers to leverage against Apple.

I will settle for a 128GB option and more colors.

I'm assuming a 128GB model would mean the base model would start at 32GB, which would make sense with the discounted 4S starting at $99 right now. It's harder to talk someone up $100 when the storage is the same. I would probably go for a 64GB model because 16GB is KILLING ME but I don't think I would need to cram more than 100GB of stuff in there. I could easily do that with all my photos, music and videos (10 TB iPhone yet?), but I was very very comfortable with the space on my old 64GB iPad 2. And a lot of that was storing huge game apps and magazine downloads.

The color option would be nice because most cases don't cover the front. I like my white 4S, but I would rather have a red one with a fancy black case. But as someone else mentioned, Apple had better create some unified LTE model or else have a crapload of SKUs at third-party retailers. It sounds like T-Mobile will get the iPhone, so that would mean possibly four models if everything was the same color and storage capacity. Yikes.

Keep in mind the phone itself would probably not be red (as in the glass) and it'd follow the example set by the fifth generation iPod touch. Also currently possible through Anostyle :p

i could possibly see Apple releasing a 4.8" phone alongside 4 inch phone in the next few years.

if they want to stay competitive and give everybody out there what they want(make more money) they will do this.

same aspect ratio of course....

I seriously hope the iPhone is not offered in more than 2 colors; black & white.
When using my phone, I do not want to look like I'm using an iPod Touch, or want to see anyone else using it.

I would actually be up for only one color: Aluminum.
Modify the iPhone to a tear-drop, Macbook Air-esque form, that has a glass front panel similar to an iPad with edge to edge display real estate.
And no home button.

No need for more storage capacity, Apple is moving AWAY from local storage.
ie iCloud, iTunes Match, possible streaming service.
Don't we acknowledge that the future is moving towards ultra portable and light streaming/cloud based devices?

If Apple gets caught in a spec-based race against Samsung/others, and looses its creative take on devices we use everyday, then we can say goodbye to Apple in the coming years.

What a great post.

I agree with most of what you've said, however, I would like a 128GB storage option as I like to have my entire music library on my iPhone (I have iTunes Match, but prefer to have music locally)

This had no credibility in the first place, and mention of a 4.8" screen launches it into parody territory. Try harder.

IMFT has had 128Gb dies (eight of them in a single package yields 128GB) in production for months now. Samsung also has a similar die in development but they haven't disclosed any details of its production status (I'm guessing it's already in mass production with availability in volume being H1 2013). From a technical standpoint, 128GB iPhone is plausible in 2013.

Sorry Pressure, but there are 3 vendors (including Samsung) currently producing the 128 GB parts needed to make a 128 GB phone.

I stand corrected, although I am sure it would be cost prohibitive for Apple to use in the first place for now, based on how many products ship with a 1024 Gb NAND flash chip today.

Why is this story on the LA Times website? I have a feeling the technology section writers simply regurgitate what they find on MacRumors and all the other rumors sites out there. Personally, I think there should be a degree of separation between these different forms of 'news'. Anyway, MacRumors story was more in-depth. =)

What could be the resolution of this 4.8" iPhone 6
While you know apple is eager to respect a certain proportionality between its devices :apple:
2 048 × 1 536px (which would make a 533dpi screen and would explain the term Retina+ )with a widened screen and a modified aspect ratio ?

LOL MacRumors is a news source?

That's like the CIA and FBI and the State Department using TMZ and other Hollywood tabloids as their "intelligence" sources.

Oh wait....

These specs should have been those of iphone 5...
apple is such a lagger now that they need to streamline with Samsung!! pathetic.

Id love the 5S to have NFC so i can make the jump from my galaxy S2 to iOS but cant see Apple doing it. 128GB seems inevitable at some point, but colours?? Foxconn seem to have struggled to pump out enough of the current colours, let alone another capacity and potentially 8 colour variants.

Multiple colors are unnecessary... Is Apple catering the iphone to elementary kids now? Just bring on the 4.8" iphone!

The Galaxy SIII is also popular not only because of that, but also because it has proven to be a remarkable phone/alternative that is on par, if not better, than the iPhone. That specs may be slightly overkill, but at the end of the day, it is the user experience that it delivers that counts. And as far as that goes, many people are satisfied with the SIII, some not even thinking about going back to the iPhone anytime soon.

We don't need 533ppi, it's plainly retarded and overkill. Anything above 300ppi our human eye can't even differentiate the individual pixels, so there's essentially no difference if you look at a phone with 326ppi or 533ppi.

Apple should just stay with the Retina display. No need for any 720p displays or anything like that, it's already clear enough.

as posted before, apple wants to keep proportional resolutions between it devices, so they can't adopt the 720P and moreover, the concurrency has already or will adopt a resolution of 1080P (oppo phone, galaxy S4, Optimus G2, htc butterfly) ;)

Fingers crossed that they do bring out a iPhone 128GB
With apple pattern they normally change there smaller devices first then changer the bigger devices last
Then we should see the same happen to the iPad mini and 9'7 inch iPad
The extra space would be great for me to store more movies and music
for when traveling.

This analyst doesnt know Apple. Everything he said is false!
Apple likes to have the same design for two years as we have seen. Nothing major will happen to the iPhone again until 2014.
7-8 colours? Was that really a request from customers? I also doubt NFC on the next iPhone. Possible, but not likely. More like a feature from the 2014 model.

The only way any of this would be true is if Apple realizes they've gone about as far as they can with the current design/concept.

One thing for sure: If they make a 4.8" iPhone it will sell like crazy (I'm in). Also, they would take the new design (no home button, etc) and scale it down for the 4" model to keep everyone else happy.

Don't see it though, but it's going to be very interesting to see where they go with an iPhone 6.
