This is the most gimmicky thing apple has put on a phone. Worse yet, it actually takes up more screen real estate because it's not flush with the top bezel. 🤦🏾‍♂️

Android OS (aka Google) is not copying. This is just an app made by a user. Android has the option to do stuff like this.... I can also my my Android look like a windows 10 PC if i wanted to. A simple free software allows android users to do stuff that Apple wants to charge its users $1000+ for. Not sure who is "losing" in this scenario? Pretty sure its apple as this is the only "innovation" they can come up with to charge money for a new slightly altered phone design.
“Slightly altered”, I mean yeah, it’s STILL rectangular! Come on Apple, where is the triangular phone that Samesung can copy?

First of all, this is from some 3rd party developer and not a manufacturer implemented feature. Secondly, this is not 2010. Times have changed. Android is not laggy. It is now a lot smoother with even faster scrolling speed. If you want to talk about bad lags, look no further than the iphone version of google maps.
I would look at Google maps, but Apple Maps works much better for me. 🤷‍♂️

Innovation means cooying and improving. Less pride and more innovation, please Apple!!!.

A copycat version of the iPhone 14 Pro's Dynamic Island has arrived on Android's Google Play Store in the form of an app called "dynamicSpot."

Dynamic-Island-For-Android-Users-Feature.jpg

The app, still in beta, offers customers several different experiences at the top of their smartphones. In its current form, dynamicSpot offers playback control for songs, timers, battery status, and more features coming soon, according to the app's description. dynamicSpot also offers customization features not available on Apple's Dynamic Island.

iPhone 14 Pro's Dynamic Island

Instead of leaving the pill-shaped area at the top of the display unused, Apple decided to create new experiences for iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max users. Dynamic Island displays various types of information and controls to users, including Now Playing, timers, and other system-wide alerts such as AirPods connecting. Chinese smartphone maker realme indirectly called Apple's Dynamic Island "quite appealing" as it looks to crowdsource ideas to replicate it.

Time to close all the borders to Dynamic Island.

Apple it's time to place a Cease and Desist order ;)

IF Apple can win on icons in a GUI and not the basic shape of a smartphone slab ... surely they can win Dynamic Island's uniqueness. Seems like Samsung has placed their copycats every amongst Android community.

what i find HILARIOUS is so many Android user will vehemently shout above mount Everest that they 'hate apple' yet will jump at any chance for a UI or hardware that copies what Apple has brought forth. I never understood that.

I don't know why this is a surprise to anyone?

I am an avid Android user as well as Pixel user (can't switch) the developer had fun with this it's not an official app. I think Dynamic Island is neat it wouldn't surprise me if this does end up being a feature that is copied. Just like Always on Display was copied on iOS from Android.

Scolling speeds - is this STILL used to compare or show iOS being inferior?
like you said this isn't 2010 but this tiny debate can go back and forth like:
Windows laptops for about 10yrs after Windows 3.1 have had multiple click buttons on laptop trackpads and yet Apple had only 1 for almost twice as long. Then Apple comes out with multi-touch trackpads and although the industry copied in 3yrs it took them another 10 to fully get it working right like Apple's implementation did.
Apple users hated the MBP 2016-2021 TouchBar ... yet only reserved on the 13" MBP, and for years ridiculed by Windows users, now Dell does a worse implantation on their XPS 13" lineup.

Android has 120hz scrolling for half a decade and all that finger-banging the screen was senseless by only showing rapid response to flicking up/down on the screen. Was it completely senseless to show this? just about, it would've been MORE effective to show how apps responded with a proper comparison. Apple last year ads 120hz scrolling but ability to go down to 10hz ... took 8mths for Android to catch up with a device that could now Apple is at 1hz lowest.

Futile to argue touch screen scroll speed and sample rates without real world context as it'll continue to change on the fly. Of course its not just you on there posting scrolling speeds just its so often yet frivolous debate.

A developer can still be sued or requested to cease distribution of this software or leak out the code.
Android is still laggy over a 12mth time with minimal reboots, many Samsung Galaxy or Note owners will tell you this.
Android is still buggy with all those services running - get a foldable and open you'll see the lag in the

For once, Android is copying Apple....who'd have thought.
Just to be clear, this is a 3rd party app developed by someone. It is not an official Android feature. It is also no different than Apple copying blue light filtering from an app dev then kicking that app dev off the app store.

Also, Always on Display, 120Hz, etc. All Android features and have been years. This isn't really that shocking and the developer did it as a fun side project. I am an avid Android user and couldn't switch at this point (I have tried) we need more 3rd party devs doing stuff like this. I think it is fun I am using this feature on my Pixel as I think Dynamic Island is pretty cool on iPhone. For sure not as fully featured but still pretty neat.

Wow, that was fast.
Dynamic Island is ridiculous branding. If you're going to shamelessly copy that functionality, at least improve on the name. I mean, dynamicSpot is completely phoning it in. 🤪

What's actually hilarious is that you think something like that when you don't have a leg to stand on.
The single app that's the subject of this article, although many users here didn't noticed it at all and only saw the word Android(really strange, or they can't read) barely has +1k installs. That's 0.00004% of total android users.

A guy made an app that copies an iphone features in order to make a quick buck. Such a huge deal. Hilarious indeed.

Does this seem strange? Custom icons are basically an Android thing.

I always thought Dynamic Island was a lemonade from lemons kinda feature.

But then, who doesn't like a good lemonade?

What's actually hilarious is that you think something like that when you don't have a let to stand on.

Actually you're right ... it is hilarious ...

I dont' have a 'Let' to stand on but I do have a leg to stand on. Seems spelling plagues you above. but not picking on that just having fun.

This isn't just 1 developer ... there have been a few that have been working on Dynamic Island clones and even a manufacturer pushing publicly for others to develop clones.

What you fail to realize is:
If a company patents a design. Even if it is their logo.
Anyone person or company begins to use anything in the likeness thereof, no matter how SMALL or insignificant the person or business is, even if irrelevant or not in the same business, if the patent holder does NOT defend - irregardless of how ludicrous it may seem - it leaves precedence for others much larger, influential and more powerful to do the same AND to get away with it in a court of law.

Example: Have a GOOD read through these threads - lots of members with legal licenses and experience chime in quite well!

^ all those threads are about this: Yes that's it!
prepear-vs-apple.jpg

EDIT: Of course now we have to see if Apple has a patent on the design features of Dynamic Island and IF they'll actually persue protections. who knows but its bigger than you may think it is. Don't assume us Apple Fans are blind-FanBoys whom cannot read or think.

PS: Your post I quoted earlier said nothing of the developer, the thread may have but his/her size or business is irrelevant if you cannot see the damage potential here.

You are right about Apple being very litigious!!
But I doubt very much they have a patent on dynamic island and how it is used.

I wonder if some developers can make and app for Android phone cameras to vibrate too?

It's can't be 10 or 100 developers. I don't see the huge deal, it's a big world with over 7.7 billion people in it.

Of course 🤣

I can't assume it when it's clearly obvious
And not just blind but really petty as well.

LoL sure bud, looks like you completely forgot about the cheap accusation you threw above at the "so many Android user" in general. 🤣

It's kind of depressing that the Android world seems so interested in a feature that's passable enough for most Apple diehards to pass on this year's phone. You've got a full top row, guys… have some self-esteem.

You expect knockoff iPhones to not be knockoff iPhones?

Apple cant sue for this. Patents are useless in America. They're just a safety measure. Look at how iPhoneys got away with stealing iPhone design, interface and software. Same with the knockoff iPads and these arent small companies making knockoffs anymore. It used to be a small company in China now its Google, Amazon and Samsung.

Finally, someone with some common sense. Amazing to see so many apple fanboys willing to jump on a grenade for apple just because some random dev (not google/samsung/android) copied dynamic island.
Agreed. I was thinking the other day, with the amount of people who have notification banners turned off... Dynamic Island will probably be turned off on those phones as well, if allowable. Like many have said, this was just a stop-gap because they cannot find a way to put the sensors under the screen yet. This island will flood and disappear just like the Touch Bar. (I kind of liked the Touch Bar.)
