Let's see what the battery life is on this. Because i doubt people would be willing to sacrifice a hugh impact in battery life for flash.

I don't get the logic. I mean it's not that simply supporting flash is going to make the iPad's battery die faster just because it's installed. People still have to use it, and they can choose not to if it's a major concern for them.

If I can go to my local newspaper's website and watch a 1:30min related video of the story I'm reading, then I think I would be pretty comfortable wasting that extra 1:30 of battery life. And if I wasn't comfortable, then I would simply not click to play the video.

"If that's what they are running for the demo. They should just leave it on the demo. Because a Tablet with those specs would cost over 1000 dollars.

And on second thought i hope they make it. Because the price alone will help sell more ipads "

i agree, they should release the specs of the prototype they are running it on, if its running on similar specs to an ipad then i say good for them. if its running on alot beefier hardware, then this is a false test and is in no way a good example to counter jobs claims that flash will not run properly on "mobile" devices(cell phones and tablets)

Yeah but the average consumer may not use it like that. The geek trifecta would be more apt to turn it off. Than most people who are not a knowlegable and would call Apple Care and blame it on them.

I Guess it's hard to accept that some people aren't as smart as the people on this board. I guess everyone has Certifications in the world and can build PC's and know how to make apps?

Essentially there are more people who use Ipad,Iphones, etc than exist on slashdot,Macrumors, engadget, etc but for some reason no one gets that.

Adobe hasn’t very well disproven Apple’s claim that Flash STILL doesn’t work well on ANY mobile device. They’re just making still more promises for “some day.” Which seems to be getting closer, but then again it seemed that way two years ago too. All we know for sure is that it’s not here now—not on ANY platform.

John is a smart guy but like some people here, Apple can do no wrong.

For the record, Gruber slams Apple hard sometimes. Particularly when it comes to their treatment of developers. He regularly highlights apps that should not have been rejected.

The “some people here” who think Apple can do no wrong are straw men too.

Also While you would turn flash off. Alot of people wouldn't and they would call apple and blame them for it. I've got friends who work in apple care who have had nightmarish support calls from people getting irate over flash on the MBP and mac pro.

So that would cause a problem. Because the Average consumer probarly has never heard of Adobe and they would Call Apple if there was an issue with flash. But then again maybe that's what some people want.

Maybe people want apple lose customers and for the stock to tank and to lose marketshare ETC.

Because no one seems to be thinking in the long term. Only in the "I want" short term gain.

That's all Apple has to do is turn it OFF by DEFAULT. Then a supposedly knowledgeable user would have to consciencely turn it ON because they want it. Heck, Apple can even then pop up an alarm box stating that "Flash may be slow and use battery life, so turn it off if you experience difficulties".

These are certainly not insurmountable problems, even when talking about customer perception. And even if a few do blame Apple if Flash does not perform smoothly in their case, that can't be as bad as all of those who are currently blaming Apple for NOT supporting Flash right now. It's a "con" listed in practically every review of the iPad.

There are some people who think that Android can do no wrong. And the thing is everyone wants to be right. I don't like android because i find the whole OS to be "Busy". It's great for someone who has ADD or someone who needs access to every single setting and option.

But there are some people who like things more simplistic and more polished. Two camps different camps i guess you could say

If that's what you want send them feedback. But i doubt SJ will change his view. And no one on mac rumors has the power to change his mind. So i suppose you can live with no flash or buy something that suits your needs.

For example i could sit on a piece of Coal and hope that the carbon becomes a diamond and cry when it doesnt. Or i can go buy a diamond if i really want one and be happy. The choice is mine just like it is yours

They are demo'ing a FLASH VIDEO.

Until I see Farmville running on a tablet with full 60fps, I don't think this is anything worth showing off really.

Flash games like farmville run like ass even on my fast i5 machine!

if Android finally lets you have the choice to install or not install flash on a non windows tablet or phone... that is Fantastic!

Epic Fail!

Shouldn't Adobe's lawyers be out there in full force right now with 'take-down' notices to everyone with a video of Flash crashing the browser on that Android tablet? How embarrassing!

Last week, Adobe's response to Apple/Steve Jobs: "Nuh-Uh!"

This week, Adobe follows up with a video of Flash crashing an Android device!

Epic Fail Adobe!

(and yes, I realize there are no legal grounds for take-down notices)

Does it come with a floppy disk? Because you know, I love floppy disks. I want to enjoy the full computing experience with no limitations...

...yeah, I'm a douche. so what? :D

Big surprise. Android runs flash. Big deal. Google is a whore that will do the deal with anyone. No matter that Apple are trying to make a stand and advance the web by moving past Flash. Google will gladly let Flash slide on in without regard for the future consequences.

China was a business decision. If you think Google's pullout of China was for humanitarian reasons then you don't know Google.

Why is there a Flash based advert for WOW below this new story?

Why's a Mac forum still running Flash videos/advert

And come to that, there's a Flash advert for USwitch above the page I'm writing this on now.

If any ware was going to be leading the march forward away from Flash I'd expect MacRumors to be one of the leading lights.

Runs fine on my Macbook Pro  My fans kick up though when I play Zynga poker which is annoying.

Since then we have no power to change almost ANYTHING by ourselves, then why discuss ANYTHING. Heck, my one vote don't count so why discuss politics. My opinion about music or movies will never make the artist / movie studios change what they do, so why ever provide any critique?

Yea - good comeback. :p

I don't think Flash/ActionScript is inherently bad by design. I guess they had to make compromises to allow timeline animation, frame scripts, etc. They should get their lazy act together and rewrite the runtime from scratch, with mobile devices in mind. And no, no "single code base, mainly aimed at XXX platform with small tweaks for the rest". That's never gonna cut it in the resource-wise limited mobile devices. The must is performance, native code, leverage each platform's specifics to the maximum, case-by-case.

There is nothing about how well it performs, how much of the CPU it eats or how long the battery lasts with and without playing flash.

No, but from the video clip you can tell that the game was running at maybe 15 fps, a far cry from an enjoyable Flash experience.

I agree that Adobe could step up its game. Now would be a good time. Perhaps they're just too tangled up in legacy code.

Wow, a video of an unreleased prototype device running flash for a whole 11 minutes? Oh wait, that was seconds? Only 11 seconds? Did the battery die after that or did the browser crash?

Show us something that I can buy. The JooJoo? Haha, that piece could run Flash slideshows. Oh wait, those were YouTube videos, not slideshows. I was wondering why the slideshows were so boring. Each slide closely resembled the one before it.

I mean come on, I've got the latest Flash beta that is supposed to run faster and my 2.4ghz MBP runs 1080p video around 15-20fps. No way in hell a tablet will run that. Especially the iPad, which probably has 1/6 or less the processing power of my machine. My iPad plays HD YouTube videos better than my MBP running HTML5 instead of flash. Its battery also lasts all freaking day and into most of the next day. I bet Android tablets will have removable batteries and are greater than an inch thick. Doubt they have IPS displays either. That's the biggest thing people overlook on the iPad. Its screen beats out my MBP easily.

If apple agree to let flash run on ipad/iphone will it have to be preinstalled onto the system or will it just be a downloadable app? If it is in app form what is the big deal - can't users decide whether they want to sacrifice battery life or browser crashing...

Oh the irony, Google Chrome crashed when I tried to watch that video. I don't even wanna know how Flash is going to rape those mobile devices.

That enclosure must be an early prototype surely? They wouldnt sell something that thick.

It would be nice to know more about the tablet and less about how it can do one thing the iPad can't.
If you hide a full-blown laptop inside a 'tablet' enclosure, you will get laptop performance (ok, a laptop running Android, that is new).

Only an idiot would buy an iPad, when Google is about to release a tablet running full Flash in a couple of months. Open platform, too.

Plus, there will be a whole bunch of Tegra 2 Android 2.2 tablets and phones coming out before the end of the year, all running full Flash 10.1. Apple will be the odd man out.

But, I guess there are at least a million idiots out there though, so Steve Jobs is betting that you can never underestimate the public.

Thus far my iPad does what it does well. I am happy with it. I will be traveling with it for the first time in a week and I am sure it will serve its purpose well. However, it is not magical, and Apple left a lot on the table for others to pick up.
