Am I the only person who has never had Flash crash on him?

As for "Magical" - I'd wager Apple use this, as the iPad currently lacks a killer app. It's not a phone, it's not a computer, so it has to just be "magical" until they can actually figure out what it is, and why you need it / until it's carved out its niche / category in the market.

Yeah, I know that's the crazy thing (for me)

I've owned PC's for years, 1st PC was a 486SX 25Mhz and now I'm at a quad core 3Ghz, and over that time Flash sites like YouTube have been invented and grown and grown, flash games have become very popular with some, and in all that time I've never EVER had any issues with flash on any machine.

I never even thought about it in anything other than a positive way.

I installed the OS on whatever machine I had at the time, went to a certain web site and it said I was missing the flash plugin, I clicked to install it and thought no more of it EVER.

I don't recall any crash due to it ever. It just worked totally invisibly and was never even thought about.

It's only since the iPad issue that I even gave Flash a second thought.

And the funniest bit (and was not commented upon) is that NOW/TODAY on this very MacRumours forum, they are STILL running Flash based banner ads.

If after all this Mac users Flash hatred it's still being run on on a Mac site, kinda tells you something.

Steve Jobs said:
We have routinely asked Adobe to show us Flash performing well on a mobile device, any mobile device, for a few years now. We have never seen it. Adobe publicly said that Flash would ship on a smartphone in early 2009, then the second half of 2009, then the first half of 2010, and now they say the second half of 2010. We think it will eventually ship, but we're glad we didn’t hold our breath. Who knows how it will perform?

Does anyone else see the irony here?

Let's see... Push, Cut/Copy/Paste, Multi-tasking, folders, a tablet...

We are glad they eventually shipped, but unlike you, Steve, we were all holding our breath.

This, together with the inclusion of Flash with Chrome, demonstrates Google's incompetence and inability to differentiate itself from Apple.

It seems that values and principles once held high by Google have officially gone down the drain!

Bring it on! I'd love to see some competition from Google. We know MS can't hang.
Maybe the Android Tablet will let you make phone calls. Yeah, yeah, it's too big. But with a Bluetooth headset and a $30/month unlimited data and talk plan... Now THAT is a good option. Well, that's if the can make a good enough iPad clone.

If I ever get a tablet, I sure as hell hope it won't be capable of playing games, or anything that might cause the battery life to die faster. I hope I can just use it to browse simple websites the can maximize the battery life.

Ok, so let's use no games, no video, no audio, no anything which consume battery on the battery powered devices, so we can get longer batery life, so we can then enjoy LOOKING at them. Rrrrright! Let's just power on the (i)devices and then start staring at them and count how many days/hours/minutes/seconds the battery can last...

How about if "they" will improve the battery technology first of all, let alone the components wich STILL needs power to run whatever software they are running (flash or html5 or whatever).

I don't remember Apple publicly promising those features.

[UPDATE] Just wanted to clarify, flash didn’t crash here, I just accidentally hit the “home” button while I was really trying to hit the “back” button. Android users know that you get an error message if an app crashes, I know because I have a Nexus One. There’s hidden home, back, and power buttons (on the side of the prototype) u do not see in the videos/photos, sorry if that confused any readers.

The fact is that Apple does very little wrong. I know that's difficult for some people here to accept, but their rise from near-bankruptcy to unqualified success across multiple, highly competitive markets speaks for itself. Apple is successful precisely because they do so many things right. There is a hell of a lot that can be learned by trying to figure out how they do it while there's relatively little to learn by obsessively scrutinizing their mistakes. People like Gruber understand this.

oh for the love of christ, get up from your knees already and whip your mouth. jesus.

Man, enough about flash already

If people want a device with flash, let them buy one ( and accept the limitations it sets on the devices performance)

If people want to buy a device that doesn’t support flash, then fine, and let them experience the "magical experience" of the internet that that entails.

Surely there are other things that we can discuss.
Thank you!

It's like talking about VCRs!

Moving on...

At least Android will be a good lab rat and finally prove whether Flash can run or (more likely) not run properly on a mobile device, and it will put an end to any debate about whether Flash should be on the iPhone or not. I'm curious about how the final product will run Flash.

And again, they concentrate on whether it runs Flash or not, forgetting that half the equation is what battery life it gets while doing so.

What do you mean is not 30 minutes of battery life plenty for us, Adobe said so, who need those dam 8 plus hour ipad, look we can run Flash for 30 minutes wee.

Nope.

Apple never promised those things.

Android apps don't close that way.

GrRRRrg... YEah.. >=) HATE HATE HATE!!!!

That was fun! :D

Nah, that wasn't slow. If you want slow click on the HTML5 running on an iPad link in my signature. I'm having fun there also by showing my HATE!! GRRRR!!! :p

You don't have an iPad.

dvrk547, no iDon't! <-- See what I did there! So, what does that have to do with anything I wrote? Oh.. Nothing that I CARE ABOUT.

What Android phone have you used or you own that didn't use the home button as a way to get out of an app? Just curious, because when I hit the home button, it brings me to the menu screen. Now isn't that special? :)

Either Jobs doesn't know what he is talking about, or he is ********ting the world and thinks we are all stupid.

Flash runs fine on my Linux based Nokia N900 mobile phone!

Check the specs:

Nokias fault for not marketing this correctly.

Sigh,

I have a Mac, I have an iPod, I dislike Flash but I fail to see why so many of you are so angry almost about a device running flash. Whilst I prefer open standards to formats such as Flash I understand that most websites use it. Jobs not wanting Flash is purely because he doesn't want people using Flash apps as opposed to compiled apps from the store. Being a business man he'll make up some shpiel about it being a resource hog as it stands but I'm guessing Adobe would have been happy to modify it for the current dominating mobile platform. We also have to remember that one of Flash's uses is as a advertising framework (How many ads do you know that are in Flash? I'll give you a clue, it's a lot.). This competes directly with Apples new ad framework so the turtle-necked one wouldn't want competition.

You all seem to forget that Flash does not run at full chat 24/7, if you view sites utilising it heavily constantly then yes your battery life will degrade as with using Java or any other plugin like it. I'm sure there could be a method for turning it off and on but clearly Jobs doesn't want sucvh competition on his platform.

Yes, my flamesuit is on.

Sure thing :)

If one deconstructs SJ's recent open letter and does minimal amount of objective research it is very easy to conclude that he is either:

1. totally uninformed, which is hardly possible really...

2. hypocrite and liar

I somehow lean towards option two :)

And did you notice he has the Comments Moderated and blocked "Comment moderation is enabled. Your comment may take some time to appear".
Only allowing what he wants through, How Pathetic, hell if he is going to post that it was his thumb and a mistake then why lock out comments.... Hmm..

It really did crash, this is just to much trying to cover up what was caught on video, Unbelievable.

I Don't know if its funny or just sad that people are driving themselves bonkers over flash. We all know that it's never going to be on the iphone.

So people stressing out over something that is never going to happen. Are just being counterproductive. I mean it's a human right to have freedom of speech but it's also wasting time on something that we know is not going to ever change.

Because it's not the majority of iphone users who want flash. It's the minority and as long as the majority is happy. They get to steer the collective boat to any port they choose.

You are right. It is noth that what is driving me bonkers. What drives me bonkers is the "enlightend" reasoning of Jobs. There is nothing enlightend about it!

The only reason why Jobs doesn't want flash on the iToys is to be able to part you from your money more easily!

But the thing is that he Runs the company. So it's up to him to decide what they want and dont wan't to offer. The same way AT&T Decides to do things , The same way HBO decides to air a movie or not.

But we have a choice to find something that suits our needs. Protesting is great. But in this case it's not going to force apple to change it's stance.

Evr been to roughlydrafted? Try getting a comment through there if it doesn't kiss Steve Jobs arse with at least a cherry flavoured lip balm. Plenty of sites have moderation of comments.

Of course not. I fully agree with that. They will never change it.
But I also think that their users have the right to know that they are lied to about the reason behind it with hypocrite crap.

This post is wrong. It needs to be updated. As the guy who took the video explained, the browser did not crash; he hit the home button.
