Considering you take a shot at economics and try look mature/pro/high-en, it's funny you have a forum signature with your apple gear and best app. Do you realize how retarded and insecure are you just for trying to look cool with a sig like that?

And what's wrong with K-mart shoppers in the first place? ****ing racist.

Just kidding around man (thus the wink). There is nothing wrong with Android phones, they are also very high tech and capable. I think it comes down to personal preference. My main point was that competition is good (and maybe some rivalry too ;))

So time to have crap store, impossible updates, crashing app as default behavior! All android users i know even don't have internet connection and don't use apps, they just wanted a touch phone. Android is anyway pretty good, but saying Apple is going bad.... who cares if iOS has 1% or 90%? I just use it for work, for fun and it is awesome.

Don't blame the system that has retarded users. Isn't 'simple' that sells the iPhone apart from 'revolutionary'?

I bought my mom the Desire HD. Took me one evening to explain, install few apps and widgets so she could enjoy it. At the age of 67 she rocks the thing. She doesnt complain about battery either cause she knows theres a mobile network switch for her data when she doesnt use it. Woman is using speach to text, email and chat, google maps, some cooking app, tv schedule app, notes for daily stuff and youtube to have a laugh. Larger screen makes it easier for her to read yet not too big to have it with her all the time.

My point is... when i hear a argument that android is hard to use or has crap apps or that is big cause phones are free (top android phones are no way cheaper than iPhone but apparenly some of you are too retarded to even go to a carrier website and check) then i laugh. Being stupid just doesnt hurt and that aint androids fault.

I really hope that Apple sees trends like this and realizes it's time to change their game plan. No more once a year phones. Time to kick the innovation level up a few notches. Time for over the air OS updates, over the air app installs, wireless syncing and everything else Android has offered for some time now.

While I do think that over the air OS updates would be nice for geeks like us I think you are grossly overestimating the value of such things to the masses. Its no surprise android is "overtaking" Apple in market-share, hell my mom has an android phone she got it free with her new phone contract, its not like she does anything remotely smart phoneish with it but it was free and had a camera and she could go on the web with it. I'm sure if apple licensed out iOS and had 20 different vendors making a hodgepodge of phones all with different specs, different hardware, different features and different quality they could do the same but you'd end up with the same mess that android is in.

Still, you got nothing? ok, c-ya troll.

It's actually quite easy to explain these numbers... only about 24% of the populace has an above average IQ - SOURCE. Everyone else is a fandroid!

Yeah, I know it's unsubstantiated hyperbole, but there is already so much of that in this thread, what's a little more?

I've got loads, but neither the time nor the inclination when time will do it so much better than anyone ever could..

I think Apple should have teamed up with Nokia. Let Nokia put IOS on their phones. IOS doesn't make Apple money its all in the app store. Apple unfortunately only has 1 phone and there are dozens of others flooding the markets its no wonder Android is ahead.

I believe Apple needs to team up with another phone maker to become more dominant.

No the app store is not where Apple makes all it's money. They make it on the hardware which has a nice profit margin. Apple only keeps 30% of the profits from apps sold. iTunes brought in $1.4 billion (includes non app store purchases) or 5.67% of Apple's total revenue last quarter. iOS/App store helps drive Apple's hardware sales.

and over the time of a 2 year contract how much would she be saving compared to ip4?

..thats the kicker...

Without trying to come off like a fanboy (or Fandroid), here are some of my thoughts.

Great for Google that their OS is becoming the majority. Expected it to happen...given all US carriers and 80 or more phone models. Google doesn't charge for the OS and hardware co's (motorola, HTC, etc) don't need to spend a lot of money on in house OS development. Google makes some advert money of course.

But before smartphones...who ever bought a phone based on OS? I picked my Nokia's because of hardware likes/dislikes, not software.

Sooo, from the hardware co's point of view...each only has maybe 10% or 3% of the hardware share (dvide 37% by number of mgfr's...and within that 10% they support, inventory and mgfr's a number of phone models.

That is not great model for Motorola, etc. Their profits are so diluted by so many models and hardware competition...they probably will never grow above 10 %. Anyone that wants to go into the market (sony, Garmin) just picks up Android and whoa...another competitor.

It's great for Apple. With most of their 27% being 3GS or 4's, they are raking in the money from hardware sales.

Just saying from the hardware mgfr POV, not us looking at OS market share, they would MUCH rather be in Apples shoes. Only Google likes being the largest OS...the mgfr just want to sell hardware.

IMHO

Also, Android is an open-source OS which can be used on anything, while iOS only comes on the limited kinds of devices that Apple makes, which explains why Android is so popular.

I don't think you could compare Android in all markets. Android comes on tablets but iPad still has them beat on price & in some cases hardware.

As much as I want to see Apple sell phones, I also like to see healthy competition to keep away anti-trust issues. Apple is for people who like quality high-end stuff and Android is for Kmart shoppers ;)

I wouldn't call phones like the Dual Core Motorola Atrix 4G a Kmart phone. There are plenty of high end Android phones out there. True Apple only caters to the high end and Android caters to all markets, but to say that all Android phones are low end is a mistake.

so much for going heavy after the enterprise market

They can't even if they wanted. To go after enterprise is very hard considering what Apple is really interested in. Its not like they will loose any real sleep not going after the part of the market. :D

Reading this article was a waste of time. It doesn't take into consideration the other iOS devices out there. How many millions of iPod and iPads users are out there? Now, how many Android music players or tablets are there on the market?

Also, there is ONE iPhone. There are numerous different "Android" phones, all of which offer a different user experience. People buy those cheap phones because they can't afford an iPhone. Take a poll....how many Android users would have chosen the iPhone had it been available to them at their time of purchase (Verizon customers come to mind) if the iPhone was the same cost as the Android phone? I bet you'll find that most Android users would have chosen a different path, but it wasn't economical or available to them. AT&T's poor network is also partly to blame.

Figure in the true number of iOS users (iPods and iPads) and this article is nothing but a waste of time showing misleading data.

Apple will need more than white paint to sustain marketshare gains with iPhone 5.

Only difference will most likely be resale value of the unit but im not sure about it anymore as that phone range seems pretty price stable.
Contract in here are exactly same for the iPhone or any other high end android unit. No real difference what so ever.

You know why Android leads??? There's a billion Android phones and only one iPhone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's the whole point but people are here complaining it's victory based on users who love it...it's because there is so much to go around that u can get an android so cheap.

Those numbers aren't bad considering Apple builds only the iPhone, whereas the Droid is butchered and botched to be different depending on the carrier/phone, with dozens of different handsets, of which, none of them have any continuity and is heavily fragmented.

What that graph/pie chart DOESN'T show is that the iOS is also the handset marketshare as well when it comes to the iPhone. The Droid marketshare is simply showing its platform across dozens and dozens of different phones running its software. So in actuality, Apple is FAR ahead of any competition when it comes to actual handset marketshare.

Have you spent any time seeing what software modifications some Android people have done to their phones? They don't appear to have a low IQ to me.

Why I went to Android?

Flash.

And it's unlocked, so when I travel I can just pop in a local SIM and it works. Without hacking or jailbreaking. I can also tether out of the box and VOIP capability is built into the OS.

Did I say Flash? It works perfectly. And it is so liberating, compared to my iPad.

P.S. My Nexus S is comparable to my old 3GS in terms of battery life, but it has a larger and much brighter screen. I use MUIU, so it looks just like the iPhone, except I also have a couple of widgets (contacts. etc.).

Don't get me wrong, I love the iPhone design. But I need Flash, a larger screen and out of the box unlock.

That it, you went with a less pollish phone because of Flash, well I am glad your happy with all that advertising. I must admit I have yet to miss it. Does anyone here except maybe porn  miss flash at all. I for one do not. Brighter screen really ROFL now that is a funny one.

Uh, um...

Apple Fans: Look, let's step outside the reality distortion field for just a minute here.

Apple is both a hardware and software company. Right now Android's passing them on phones, and I honestly think (gasp) that will be inevitable with tablets as well since ipad mobile pricing is awful, and someone WILL be able to undercut them eventually, as their prices aren't low (A subsidized Xoom is much, much cheaper than an iPad 3G).

That said:

iTunes is profitable, as are the App Store. Even though the App Store needs the iOS platform to be meaningful, you can buy things with Windows. If Apple's mobile products weren't software driven and usable on non-Apple hardware (Windows), the idea that iOS would have 25% of phone marketshare is a non-starter.

I honestly do not think its too late for Apple to start selling OS X on PCs. Vista gave them a chance to do that. Apple's OS isn't as good as the fanboys think, but I use and like it. If they could get 50% of the marketshare-and back earlier last decade, I think that was possible-then Apple would be in a very, very good position to be a hardware and software producer.

Frankly, you buy Macs because they're seamless: The hardware's generic, but the SOFTWARE is good. And if you want to make the time investment in hacking, you can run Apple Software on whatever you pleased.

Judging by some of the comments here I think Apple fanboys and Harley Riders share similar blinders. Apple and Harley, cool, edgy, upscale. Everything else CRAP!
too funny

Porsche owns Volkswagen actually.

Porsche AG owns 50.1% of VW and VW AG owns 49.9%

You probably should read on. Porsche tried to takeover Volkswagen and failed miserable and got really in debt. Instead they are merging, Volkswagen is buying part of Porsche, putting a Volkswagen guy as the CEO. And there are huge demands on Porsche that might drag Volkswagen with them down...
