I've had my iPhone 6 Plus for 24 hours now, and to be honest, this is a very difficult adjustment, coming from years of Android nexus phones, and AOSP ROM's. Not sure I can do it, but I'm trying. I just Jailbreaked this phone tonight.

Few things that I really miss badly from Android;

- #1 no "back" key. Man o man I didn't realize how much I used that in Android, but it must be a hundred times a day. Right now I am still tapping an area on the iPhone out of habit where I think a "back" key should be.

- No LED Notification or new Lollipop "active display" I will admit that is a nice little feature. You can have your phone sitting on the counter top, and just by walking by it, know if you missed a call or text, by the way of the LED flashing or the new active display notification. But walk next to my iPhone, and it looks like it's off and no power. I have no clue if I missed a call or text, without actually picking it up, and turning the screen on.

- Ease of customization, holy cow is it easier to tweak and make adjustments on Nexus ROM'd phones over an JB iPhone, like Wow I have installed several of the top JB tweaks / themes, and to be honest they didn't really help make the phone easier to use, they just added deeper features or more details, or theme related stuff.

- Double Tap 2 Wake, that is such an easy way to turn the phone on, I miss that. But the thumb print thing is cool too, I guess.

- Nova launcher type thing should be made available to JB / Cydia. Things I like about the ease of using Nova, simple gestures like swipe down on the screen to pull down the notification shade. On the big 6 Plus something like that is sorely needed. And to adjust the grid size is a simple few clicks in Nova, as are a dozen other little tweaks in Nova. But with JB / Cydia it takes a zillion downloads and tweaks to do what one Nova launcher can do.

- Adding iWidgets to the home screen on the iPhone. Why can't I put the weather / clock widget on the top part of the screen ? It won't go up there, because the main app icons stay there, so the widget will only go to the free space at the bottom. But IMO the widget should move those icons around to allow it to go anywhere I want to put it.

Overall the iPhone 6 Plus itself, is gorgeous though, really nice hardware, beautiful screen, very fluid and smooth. So yes I do like the hardware design Apple made, very top notch and great. and the 5.5" screen size was also a good idea. But to me it's more iOS8 and the limitations, even with JB tweaks, that just doesn't seem to compare to a Nexus phone running a custom ROM.

We'll, see, I will give it until Friday, if I am still struggling, I just might return it for a Nexus 6.

Theres a gesture to go back in apps and browsers, just swipe from the left of the screen to the right,IMO much better then any back button

A few notes: space (and any icon arrangement you can think of) can be done while jail broken with a tweak called Homescreen Designer.

The swipe actions (and a TON more) can be done with Activator (JB tweak)

Not a back button, but SwipeSelection allows you to move the cursor by swiping across the keyboard (JB tweak)

You mentioned widgets, there's a tweak called iWidgets that is vey nice for Homescreen widgets...and there are hundreds of them out there.

There are jailbreak tweaks for most anything you could want. Browse over to the jailbreak forum here to get a glimpse.

FWIW, here's my home screen on my 6:

Which specific iWidget Weather / Clock is that your running ?

And how do I create a blank area on the top part of the home screen to allow for a Widget ? Right now when I add a Widget to the home screen, the top part of the screen is not allowed, being held there by the main apps only, and won't move to allow a widget to be out there instead ?

Double Tap 2 Wake = SmartTap on Cydia (will use more battery power though because it keeps the digitiser awake)

For gesture related stuff, look at Activator, bit fiddly to set up how you want it but it's quite cool.

I'd strongly suggest to return it while still in the buyer's remorse period..... :D

LOL, now on my 2nd full day, Jailbroke and with almost a dozen different Cydia apps installed, I am liking the phone more.

I have not touched my Android phone at all lately, I kept it in the car, to force me to get used to the different OS. I just know I am super comfortable with Android and the customizations, etc... but to give the iPhone 6 Plus a fair shake I need to only use it, and no Lollipop candy :)

I still think you are not an iOS guy, judging by your questions.
And the fact you need a jailbreak to appreciate your iPhone just gave me confirmation

Ok so there are Widgets available for the iPhone, but only if Jailbreak.

But it is such a strange and long setup to get them setup, unlike Android where it takes just the Widget only, and your good, takes a few seconds. With an iPhone it's a huge process of different tweaks and apps to install, just to get one Widget on the screen, takes several minutes, to setup one Widget as opposed to like 2 seconds on Android.

A stock iPhone with no jailbreak ? NO WAY would I even consider that for a second. I like to tweak and customize my phone, to my exact preferences, not just out of the box from the store.

Same with my Android phones too, I never keep them stock, with the same setup as you get out of the box. I rooted and ROM'd every Android phone I had, and tweak and changed it. So my Galaxy S4 looked and performed radically different than Joe Blow running a stock S4, I do tweaks deeper than just themes and visual changes.

That's why I said you are not an iOS guy and you'll be annoyed sooner or later....
The strange and looking setup is because the jailbreak is not part of the system, not designed by Apple, not coherent with the whole ecosystem.

There are widgets also in stock iOS, I'm using 5 on my iPhone and 4 on my iPad, but they are quite different.

I understand, but haven't popular JB tweaks, become future iOS features a year or two later ?

I am trying to sue the phone as an iOS device, but some things are very difficult, like the lack of a "back" button, and swiping the screen to the left or right sucks in comparison. And there are some very useful and great tweaks on Cydia, that should be baked into iOS IMO.

True, some were integrated in iOS, but redesigned by Apple to be coherent (more or less) with the UI.
Something's still missing, but I'm positive Apple will provide in the future.
I'm all about coherence and user experience, so I like iOS as it is. I'm also an Android user, but only vanilla Android on nexus devices.

How much extra does it use would you say? The digitizer being on always

Just installed CallBar from Cydia.

Wow what an amazingly smart and beautiful app. And the tutorial it gives after installing is so professional and well done.

All my years never seen such a simple but georgous app with an also fantastic tutorial.

Then you should return it rather than continuing with your unethical behavior of violating the TOS by doing the jailbreak.

Go back to Android. The Apple ecosystem can do without unethical people.

Wow you are a real fundamentalist
While I've never jailbroke any of my iDevices, because I love Apple's products as Apple has designed them, I still think someone has the right to do what he wants about his smartphone, as long as he's paying for the apps.

Clearly he had to take responsibility for that (I just read a thread about a stuck jailbroken iPhone that Apple refuses to repair under warranty).

It's my phone and I will install what I want on it. How is that unethical?

The guy goes around telling people who jaikbreak how unethical they are being....

You agreed to terms of service that you violated. That is clear. A company can literally write anything they want into their terms of service. It's up to you to decide whether their demands are legitimate or bogus.

Piracy is unethical, jailbreak is not.
But it's a plain violation of the TOS, so your warranty technically is voided. Be aware of that.

My 5s is already 14 months old. I don't think I have to worry about voiding warranty at this point.

But do keep in mind that a factory reset is usually all it takes to restore it to its pre-jailbroken state.

In Europe the warranty is 24 months ;)

You are right about factory reset, but a little risk is still present. There is a recent thread here about a jailbroken unit that can't be restored.... Not usual, but not even impossible.

FYI: you can activate the led flash for notifications in settings under accessibility.
I personally prefer apple's way of having context-specific back buttons.
Because of a recent ruling, I'm avoiding the use of the fingerprint to open my phone. It was super convenient, but the police have no right to look in my phone without my consent.

Just a tip: you should try iOS as it is, instead o trying to "port" Android on the top of it. They are different, they do things differently.
Just like you cannot use OS X as you use Windows, you cannot use iOS as Android.
JB might be you solution, but it's a temporary one, you'll get bored and annoyed sooner or later if you don't give it a try changing your habits/routine, instead of changing the phone... Otherwise just change the phone... literally. You'll be happier! ;)

My situation is that I love Apple products, quality, customer service etc. I have always had iPhones and never really tried Android. But recently I have found myself wanting more from my iPhone; I'm bored. I want more features, I want more control. The only reason why j have not tried an Andriod phone is iMessage. So many of my friends and family use this (including international) and it's fantastic, as well as FaceTime and other little but huge features.

I'm thinking of JB'ing but have not done this since the 4s days. Since Apple started to allow better control of your device. However, for the first extra functionality, I am again thinking of JB'ing. If I don't install SSH, am I completly safe from hackers etc? What about backing up to iCloud, can Apple tell that I've JB'ed from my iCloud back ups etc?

Thanks.

Android nerd, switched to iPhone 6 Plus

I don't get how someone can get bored, I just need it to work and not to bother me!
I get bored and bothered...
...when I have to help android users with hard reset because they "accidentally" deleted something they shouldn't have triggering the phone not to work properly!
...when they want to delete some home screen with no apps on it,
...when they try to delete an app but then they found out the app is still there (just deleted the link on the home screen),
...when sync&backup stop working without any clear reason and pressing the sync button just doesn't work,
...when music and photos disappear from the Gallery for no reason, even if they are still there on the SD card...
There are plenty of these examples. Dump examples maybe, but real ones.
That's what I would call "annoying"!
