Because of a recent ruling, I'm avoiding the use of the fingerprint to open my phone. It was super convenient, but the police have no right to look in my phone without my consent.

Before handing over the device power it off. When powered on password is required to unlock the device before Touch ID will enable. Best of both worlds.

American's obsession about privacy
If it weren't for our right to privacy, the Supreme Court wouldn't have overruled the ridiculous laws about sodomy that criminalized consenting actions between adults.

Another thing I miss is being able to set individual volumes. I used to be able to get away from drunk, angst filled calls at 3 am on A Thursday morning by setting my ringtone volume to mute and keeping my alarm volume current.. Not anymore!
Why aren't you using "do not disturb"? You put the legit callers on the list and keep your drunk friends off. You can set the time it's active and don't get the sounds etc that you normally get. I have mine set until I get up at 5:30. It's awesome. I don't know what it'd be called on android, but I'm sure you have something similar.

The TOS specifies what you can do with it and what you can't.
If you break that, you are unethical.
Don't like it and want to be ethical? Return it.
Ugh. You obviously haven't been paying attention to the legality of the jb community. There have been articles posted on this very site. Please don't talk about something you have no knowledge about--unless you work for Fox News. No one cares about their lack of accurate reporting.

Trying to find third party Text apps in the Apple App Store, and nothing coming up.

Like Android has some great ones, Textra is my fav, or Handcent, or the new Google Messenger.

Are any of those available for the iPhone, or is it the case of we get iMessage and that's it ? I only ask because Apple has allowed third party keyboards finally like Swype, maybe they also offer other third party apps ?

Update now one week later;

Overall I am starting to really like this iPhone 6 Plus, with all the different JB Cydia apps and tweaks I have experimented with the past week, I think I have found the ones I like, and have the phone setup pretty well now. I have a total of 12 Cydia apps installed, 2 of them really good AdBlockers, which is a must have for me on any smartphone.

As far as bending, people keep bringing up ? I am not worried about that. I have the official Apple leather case, which feels great in the hand, and doesn't add much bulk, and seems to keep the phone solid enough. I mean suppose the phone could bend with no case, but you would have to go out of your way to purposely try to bend it hard with a lot of pressure to actually bend it. Which I don't see ever happening without forcing it, which you would never do anyways.

Main reason I switched from Android, was just for a different change of pace, something fresh and new to me. I love Android and Lollipop is awesome, but I wanted something different after 5 years straight of Android. If the HTC One M9 is 5.5" I may get that, I really like the 5.5" screen size. The Nexus 6 does intrigue me a lot, but that thing is a beast, heavier than the 6 Plus, a lot wider, thicker, etc... The width being the biggest issue to me on the Nexus 6, just so hard to one hand that thing. The 6 Plus being lighter, thinner and a lot narrower does it make easier to handle, yeah the 6 Plus is actually taller than the Nexus 6, but the height doesn't matter that much to me IMO, while width and weight do.

Battery life on the 6 Plus has been excellent so far. Seems to be on par with my OnePlus One which has AWESOME battery life.

To wrap it up, the only phone that would have me drooling to get other than this 6 Plus, would be the One M9, if the screen is 5.5", otherwise I'll just stick with this, and wait till the Nexus ( 2015 ) phone, or 6S Plus

Apple does not allow third-party SMS clients, so you'll have to find them in Cydia repos. Prior to iOS 8, I used biteSMS and LOVED it for the quick reply functionality. Now that the feature is built in to iOS 8, it doesn't seem as necessary.

There's probably a great deal of customization options with biteSMS that I'm overlooking, so give it a try :)

Hey TB quick question on your JB experiences with the 6+.
Was it hard to do? Can you go back to an iTunes back up if you don't like it and return and get all of your apps and setting like a normal restore from backup would do?

One thing I noticed with the iPhone 6 Plus is that the phone is fluid and smooth as water. Like always just perfectly and consistently the same smoothness opening apps, switching pages, opening multiple Browser tabs, etc... It really is a very smooth flowing OS, with ZERO hiccups and stutters.

Compared to my Android phones, which were flagships, and rooted and ROM'd, I would go into Developer Options, and set the Animations to 0, and use Nova Launcher and set that to Light Speed fastest setting. But even a tweaked Android ROM and set to warp speed, I would still get hiccups or stutters here and there, once in awhile. Majority of the time, apps and pages opened up faster than a blink of an eye, like crazy fast, but other times you could see it trying to open that fast, but would pause or stutter trying to do so. It was very inconsistent in doing that, no specific app or action caused it, just random. Where with the iPhone I just don't seem to get that whatsoever.

Yeah I don't have the warp speed lightning fast settings on the iPhone, the animations are a little slower, but they are constantly the same always, every app, every movement, fluid as water.

One other thing, is the standby time. I went to bed with the phone at 18%, and forgot to charge it, woke up 7-1/2 hours later, phone still at 18%. It seems when the phone sits idle, it just sips the battery juice ever so lightly. No background apps or tasks draining down the battery.

Don't get me wrong, I am no major iFan now, I still LOVE Android, and Lollipop is awesome, the animations and Material Design in Lollipop IMO are amazing, I just needed a break from Android, I think I got burned out recently due to my OnePlus One, and my crack addict flashing new ROM's. Testing out the CM12 Alpha builds, I flashed a good 20+ different ROM's over the course of 6 weeks, testing and playing around with the different Nightly builds, and different Developer builds. Always doing a fresh clean install, and then reinstalling my apps from scratch, and setting up the phone to my preferences each time. I was doing that every two days or so, for like six weeks straight. I think I just got sick of seeing the Lollipop setup screen 20 different times, and setting up my phone all over again, repeatedly.

The iPhone 6 Plus has stopped my crack addict ROM flashing for now. Yeah I was a Cydia addict for a week, but now that the phone it is setup pretty much the way I want, and no other tweaks I know of or really want, I am content with the phone as is for now :)

For the OP and basically in response to the post above. I have always been an avid phone person and I have owned basically every flahship phones that has came out in the past year...HTC M8, G3, Note 4, Nexus 6, OPO, all of them basically and I no matter which android phone I decide to use, I constantly come back to the iPhone.

I got the 6 the first week it dropped and then after about a week or two after, I traded it for a 6 Plus and loved every aspect of it. Then after while that junkie itch came back and I need to get a dose of Android. That's when I switched to the Nexus 6 and then the Note 4. The N4 was a superb device but still cant get over the fact of laggy Touchwiz. So when Apple dropped the carrier unlocked devices yesterday, I went and scooped up a 64GB Plus.

I have been there with you with all the flashing roms and kernels and all this and that. Trust me, there hasn't been an android device of mine that hasn't been rooted. I like about the iPhone where you can set it up and forget it and everything runs flawlessly, no lag whatsoever no matter what task you perform. I dont like how you have to make a Android device run to your liking. With iPhone, it already runs to your liking, you just have to download apps. I to use to change the animation speed on use Nova Launcher on my android phones but still there is no comparison when it comes to iOS.

Its safe to say that I will stick to the iPhone for the long run and stop all my device switching ways!

Thank you Tee00max.

Sounds like you and I similar on our smartphone addiction :)

I was tempted to almost try out the Nexus 6 next, return the 6 Plus for the Nexus 6 this week to see if the N6 is the Android beast all claim it to be ? But I am very happy and comfortable with this Jailbreaked iPhone 6 Plus. The Nexus 6 I think would still be more of the same for me, and wouldn't be a night and day difference than my OnePlus One running Lollipop ?

Sure the N6 would be faster, nicer screen, etc... than the OnePlus One, but overall Lollipop on both phones, the overall user experience would feel very similar ? Not like compared to my Jailbreaked iPhone 6 Plus, which is a whole different and fresh new experience to me.

The TOS specifies what you can do with it and what you can't.
If you break that, you are unethical.
Don't like it and want to be ethical? Return it.

Wrong. The TOS is only contract between Apple and the user. In it, Apple agrees to very few things (basically, to honor the warranty), and the user agrees to very many things (among them, not to jailbreak).

If either party breaches the contract, then the other party is relieved from their duties as well. In the present case, if a user breaches the contract by jailbreaking, they are effectively relieving Apple of its duty to honor the warranty.

That's it. It's a choice the user has - any party to any contract always has the option to breach it and face the agreed-to repercussions. There is nothing unethical about it; the practice is called "efficient breach" and its done daily by individuals and sophisticated businesses alike.

Yep it surely does, I love when I meet someone with the same addiction as me, makes me not seem as crazy as I look in others eyes lol.

Yeah the Nexus 6 was a great device but I just found it being bland to me, the software image processing on the camera was very lack and the battery life right now is not up to par and very horrible if you ask me. I'm sure there are some OTA updates that will fix all that up in due time but for right now, I wasn't impressed. I maybe had it for about two days and I got rid of it!

Yeah outside of this 6 Plus, I really am interested in the upcoming HTC One M9, always been a fan of their phones, owned the EVO 4G, One X, One M8, loved them all. I am hoping the One M9 has a 5.5" screen, or at least a larger than 5.0" screen.

The HTC One M9 is pretty much the only other phone I might be interested in, anything else currently available right now, just seems cool, but not earth shattering awesome.

This year 2015, only other phones I can see myself owning, would be the One M9 or 6S Plus ( really interested in the 6S Plus, the hardware upgrade should be awesome, with the 14nm smaller chipset being very efficient and battery friendly, a MAJOR camera upgrade coming, said will make it the best camera ever for a smartphone to date, and 2GB RAM will propel iOS a lot, with iOS9 supposedly having sweet changes to compete with Android even more )

Man I was just stating to someone this exact same thing! I loved the M8 and I think that was my best android device that I have ever owned hands down and if they make a M9 with a 5.5 screen and upgrade the camera and sensors, I think that will be something I would be greatly interested in. As of right now I am not interested in none of the LGs or Samsung devices.

Of course I am always looking forward to the latest iPhone to drop!

Yeah HTC to me makes the best Android devices, the One M8 is awesome. I just want a larger screen on the M9 with bigger battery too of course.

Seems like 5.5" screen size is starting to become the new norm in 2015. So for me, the only two phones I have my eyes on this year are the One M9, 6S Plus.

Isn't the "S" line of iPhone's always the super speed versions ? Rumors are the 6S is supposed to be a powerhouse, with an amazing camera, and very powerful GPU for gaming, ( which I could care less about IMO ) and iOS9 is rumored to have even more customization options and more third party addons. And the 14nm chip is supposed to be very battery friendly.

But the HTC One M9 will ship with the new 810 Snapdragon, and 3GB RAM, and bigger battery, just please give is a larger screen too :) And Android fan dream would be a 5.5" One M9

I am open to the OnePlus Two as well, but with no Cyanogen involved what it will run ? A more stock AOSP Lollipop ROM ? Or an OPO OS ?

The 6 plus already has a great GPU for mobile gaming, this game called vainglory looks absolutely fantastic on the new iPhones with the game pushing over 1.3 million polygons in real time(very impressive)

The 20nm Apple A8 chip is already quite power efficient but im dreaming over a 14nm Apple A9 with 2gb of RAM and a like tri-core cpu design with the next new powervr 7 Series Which gives gains like 70% from the Rogue series.

But yes the S iPhones are the big gains usually.

2x cpu
2x gpu

Without a doubt the 6S will at least be 2x faster both cpu and gpu wise then the 6 and 6 Plus instead of the 25/50% gains the 6 and 6 plus got over the A7 chip. (Which is still impressive)

Apple A8 already gives S810 a run for its money although the S810 is probably a little bit superior, but just by a little bit

Wow thx :)

Your homescreen setup looks great, and this is the type of stuff I want to do on my iPhone. Sorry, but a stock iPhone is not for me, no way, just feels too limited and locked down.

I want widgets, I want a custom icon pack, I want to move my app icons anywhere I feel like it, I want the dock to be transparent and have 5 apps, and just like to have it setup different and my own way.

why didnt you get a nexus 6?

edit: just read above. fair enough.

I'm also an avid Android user, coming from an iPhone 3G and haven't had an iPhone since. I actually went to Verizon twice a month or so ago to get a 6+, but they were always sold out, so I took it as a sign. I have the G3 now, and I do like it but I'm itching to try iOS again.

My biggest worry is if I should get a 6+ now, or wait for the next iPhone, as it's already January.

I wanted to thank the OP for this thread, I'm also an avid rooter and customizer, and it's nice to hear some of you are the same, but still enjoy your 6. The G3 and 6+ have the same size screen, but the 6+ is just huge, so that's been the biggest thing I've been worried about.

hmmmm I dont feel that its too late to get an iPhone still. The good thing about iPhones are that they keep their value and pretty easy to get rid of when the new ones comes out. I know I will be able to send my Sim-unlocked 64GB 6 Plus w/ a year of Apple Care in mint condition for a hefty price once the 6S drops. If you want one I would say go for it and you will still get a good penny for the to sell when buying the new iPhone in October.

That's what I've noticed as well. On a similar note however, I'm trying to see if it's worth it to sell my G3 for maybe $350-$400, and pay almost double that to get the 64GB 6+. Is the 6+ worth twice the price? That's what I'm debating.

Good luck in selling a G3 for $400....

I've had my iPhone 6 Plus for 24 hours now, and to be honest, this is a very difficult adjustment, coming from years of Android nexus phones, and AOSP ROM's. Not sure I can do it, but I'm trying. I just Jailbreaked this phone tonight.

Few things that I really miss badly from Android;

- #1 no "back" key. Man o man I didn't realize how much I used that in Android, but it must be a hundred times a day. Right now I am still tapping an area on the iPhone out of habit where I think a "back" key should be.

- No LED Notification or new Lollipop "active display" I will admit that is a nice little feature. You can have your phone sitting on the counter top, and just by walking by it, know if you missed a call or text, by the way of the LED flashing or the new active display notification. But walk next to my iPhone, and it looks like it's off and no power. I have no clue if I missed a call or text, without actually picking it up, and turning the screen on.

- Ease of customization, holy cow is it easier to tweak and make adjustments on Nexus ROM'd phones over an JB iPhone, like Wow I have installed several of the top JB tweaks / themes, and to be honest they didn't really help make the phone easier to use, they just added deeper features or more details, or theme related stuff.

- Double Tap 2 Wake, that is such an easy way to turn the phone on, I miss that. But the thumb print thing is cool too, I guess.

- Nova launcher type thing should be made available to JB / Cydia. Things I like about the ease of using Nova, simple gestures like swipe down on the screen to pull down the notification shade. On the big 6 Plus something like that is sorely needed. And to adjust the grid size is a simple few clicks in Nova, as are a dozen other little tweaks in Nova. But with JB / Cydia it takes a zillion downloads and tweaks to do what one Nova launcher can do.

- Adding iWidgets to the home screen on the iPhone. Why can't I put the weather / clock widget on the top part of the screen ? It won't go up there, because the main app icons stay there, so the widget will only go to the free space at the bottom. But IMO the widget should move those icons around to allow it to go anywhere I want to put it.

Overall the iPhone 6 Plus itself, is gorgeous though, really nice hardware, beautiful screen, very fluid and smooth. So yes I do like the hardware design Apple made, very top notch and great. and the 5.5" screen size was also a good idea. But to me it's more iOS8 and the limitations, even with JB tweaks, that just doesn't seem to compare to a Nexus phone running a custom ROM.

We'll, see, I will give it until Friday, if I am still struggling, I just might return it for a Nexus 6.

I'd suggest that. Your not trying to get used to iOS, your trying to seek out the Android customisation features in iOS. Nothing wrong with eye candy and tinkering, but iOS is more focussed in using the apps and integration than tinkering with the layout.

No. Each new phone is faster, S or not.

TC is adding Android features as well as innovative stuff like Handoff and Continuity, so expect more customisation heading to a place near you.
