Ive been giletting since I was 16.

I just want a phone that does what I want it to do. I just want it to get me from A to B and to be like a crappy Swiss army knife of phones.

I don't care about elegance. I don't care about design, I don't care about battery life, I don't care about looks, I don't care about girls, I don't care about style. I have no style, I'm a Nerd and I choose Android because I hate mainstream society because they made fun of me when I was little and I never quite felt like I was a fully developed adult so I developed insecurities and am in denial of my own self hatred and embarrassment of my own failures which is countered with a flat out aggressive denial of the truth of human life and the nature of our species.

All of these OSX and iOS users are morons. Windows and Android users should be able to wander into Apple forums and ramble on about their devices without the fear of being attacked by loyal Apple users. Gosh.

And, no, I'm not defending "fanboyism" but I wish people would stop acting shocked when they accounter such behavior.

TTSBL (this thread should be locked). It's going nowhere fast, and people simply aren't prepared to discuss the topic in hand in a respectful and polite manner.

The main topics of this thread should be:

1) what Apple could/should do to significantly increase their marketshare in the same manner that Android has.

2) What this overtaking by Android means for Apple.

3) Whether Apple should actually be that bothered about it.

For number 1, I think Apple could expand their smartphone portfolio. There's no reason that this should mean offering cheaper devices (although the price of a device is usually the biggest factor), they could simply offer a broader range of premium devices. Not all high end smartphone buyers want the same things, so a range of high end devices could work well for Apple without dilluting their premium image.

In regards to point 2, I can see the main point being a potential shift in developer awareness from the iPhone to Android based devices, which could lead to some high profile exclusives available on the Android platform before the iPhone. Realistically however, at worst, I can see simultaneous releases of high profile apps on both platforms rather than one taking the scoop over the other.

And for point 3, I actually don't think Apple should be too bothered about it. The growth of Android is actually coming from a massive increase in the size of the smartphone market rather than taking sales from other platforms. The point at which Apple should be bothered is when their sales start to decline. At a guess though, Apple probably already have plans in place for such an eventuality.

This is what led me away from iPhone and away from AT&T.

Last time I checked thousands of people didn't stand in line to get every android phone on the release date, and if it wasn't for apple there wouldn't have been any app stores or bad ass touch screen phone, hell and google will still be just a search engine.

Maybe Android based devices don't have people queueing all day and night to get hold of them, but their grass roots expansion is definitely as impressive as Apple's pomp and ceremony on launch day. However, the app store can definitely be credited to Apple. They just need to make sure that no one whips the rug from under their feet!

That's because they're not excited about the product on the same level as iPhone. The phone is clearly a superstar. It's not so much about how many, but rather whom? Trendsetters in our society can all be spotted using one and loving it. Its not about quantity but quality along with a communal sense of being in the know while the other guys are just plain, no.

I think it's fair to say that Google are learning as they go. Their absolute top priority right now should be rolling out paid for apps to all countries where the store is available.

Very inaccurate post. People were able to buy software for mobile phones from internet long before Apple released iPhone. CNET provided a good portal for that. Currently it offers more than 300K titles for mobile phones.

Mobile phones started using touch screens long before iPhone. Those were resistive screens. If you meant to say capacitive touch screen then the first phone with such screen was LG Prada:
