Very inaccurate post. People were able to buy software for mobile phones from internet long before Apple released iPhone. CNET provided a good portal for that. Currently it offers more than 300K titles for mobile phones.

Mobile phones started using touch screens long before iPhone. Those were resistive screens. If you meant to say capacitive touch screen then the first phone with such screen was LG Prada:

Ah, being the first certainly has nothing to do with the quality.

WOW such excitement... :)

All over a single news item.

It ought to be even more exciting when WindowsPhone 7 is released a few months from now.

The sleeping giant in Redmond is pouring billions into this venture and they're preparing to come out swinging.

Rumor has it many Apple fanboys are in training camp now preparing for what may be their biggest match yet. As their leader muttered "stay tuned".

Oh I can't wait until WP7 is released. Then all the Fandroids won't be able to use "I hate Apple" as an excuse. I'm just so over the whole Android vs. iPhone thing. People take it way too seriously. They both do pretty much the same thing. Fandroids just piss me off with their Apple hate. Like my uncle who signs his emails "Sent from my DROID" even though Droids don't ship with signatures. He hates Apple and Steve because he placed all his faith in them in the 80s. It's just so asinine! It's just a phone. I feel like Android users spend more time boasting about how their phone isn't the iPhone. WP7 should add a great twist to this.

PS - I'm all for WP7. I will stick with iPhone, but the OS is locked very similarly to Apple's. Can't wait to see what the Android users have to say about this. Especially since Redmond's OS is fresh and polished, unlike Android.

Fresh and polished? Have You used it? Didn't think so.

Even in that very link it states that Vince, the superstar uses the iPhone. Ari uses a BB. The android was some assistants' and iPhone is on there like 30 times. It was on the latest episode multiple times.

Ari uses a BB but is shown with a Nexus in THAT VERY PHOTO? Doesnt Drama also use a Nexus?

Oh God I can't believe I got sucked into this childish conversation.... /Facepalm

You win this time.

Whatever, looks better than the Droids. Have you seen anything of it besides the homescreen? Didn't think so. All I was saying was that I won't feel the animosity most people are expecting fanboys/fangirls, in my case, to feel towards WP7. But thanks for the nitpicking, I appreciate it. People like you are what make these forums so great.

Ya there's 927483826292 android phone models trying to compete against one phone! Hahahaha

iPhone hands down!

Nokia is still leading?

I haven't seen people use nokia phones in a loooong time

There's the "rest of the world" angle to consider.

I still see people buying and using Nokia phones, and they seem to be relatively happy with them.

I have family and friends in Europe and travel there regularly. Yes, Nokia still rules over there, but would you like to know why? Because not everyone there can afford an iPhone. That's the answer I get from most anyone I discussed it with.

But Nokia has a huge smartphone marketshare, and many of its smartphones are in the same price range as the iPhone.

Some networks also provide subsidised phones, so cost isn't as much of an issue.

Not terribly representative, but in the group of people I know, only one or two have iPhones. Everyone else has Nokia/Android/Blackberry. All phones are on contract and subsidised. All of us are happy with our phones and wouldn't buy an iPhone (apart from those two who have one).

What will be really funny is to see how many more OEMs rush out to use Android once they realize Google will not protect them from liability from using the Android platform.

This is a very compelling reason why a lot of OEMs, HTC in particular, may move back to WP7 handsets, since MS does protect their OEMs from litigation as per license agreements.

The latest Oracle suit vs. Google could do some serious damage, because Oracle has immense resources and likes to play to win.

It will also be interesting to see how long Google investors will let Google give Android away for free. I'm not sure Android will drive enough ad revenue to Google long term to offset development costs.

Hang on!

You are adding-up ALL the devices sold running the Android OS?
So why not compare that figure with ALL the devices running iOS?

C.

Because we are talking about smartphones, are we not? What other smartphones run iOS besides iPhones?

Besides, this has been discussed ad nauseum.

It's funny how people compare the iPhone to a Ferrari. If ANYTHING, it's a Ferrari in mud.

I'm not sure if there is a Honda with a more powerful engine, that accelerates quicker than the Ferrari, is there?

There are many phones with better hardware than the iPhone. Oh I forgot... It looks elegant. Goes perfect with my tuxedo. Give me a break.

HTC has always been loyal to WM. Is it any surprise to anyone that they will be developing WM7 handsets? Do you think they'll slow their production on Android as well? Why would Manufacturers NOT want to put Android on their devices? It's the second best selling OS out there as we speak. If nothing else, it means sales sales and more sales for the likes of Motorola and HTC.
