I don't know about anyone else, but I believe her.

But let me tell you all about this really great deal I got on a bridge in Southern Florida I recently got. I paid $10,000 AND I get 50% of the toll on this really long bride! The only way in or out I've been told, to Key West FLORIDA!!! Everyone has to pay the toll, and the money has been compiling interest in Nigeria and I get a solid return on my investment!

I should be a millionaire by this time next year, and a gazillionare in two years! Guaranteed!!! ;-)

Surprised? You really should not be if you follow Apple's Models. Start them on an iPod Touch , and eventually it's $1,200 for an iPhone, and $500 for a Watch. :apple:

HAH!

I paid $1,200 for my iPhone 8+, and people are bitching about the cost of the iPhone ten? Really? I'm stunned...

"If they are 6 or 7 what do they need?" Is this the best example she can come up with? At that age they can careless about the hardware, they are just looking for the NICK app. For all they care it can be the original iPhone or any smartphone.

It's also a myth for people to suggest Apple is elitist and out-of-reach of the lower earners. The truth is Apple now has an incredible iPhone within reach of literally every budget. They have a fantastic range of awesome products.

You won't be disappointed whatever iPhone you buy. There is nothing better than iPhone.

Maybe if you live in the us. There's a big world out there and iphones are out of the reach for many. Apple has about 6% market share here in mexico, for any product, claiming the products are within most budgets here is purely ridiculous.

Ah....Angela !!
I am reading your mind: isn't that a preludium to a substantial price increase ?
It might be a good way to better address the premium customers' needs: their esteem and natural desire to distance themselves from the mass, it will be better to redress ehh, balance demand with disappointing yields.
Enabling Apple to still meet financial forecasts with abysmal stock level (saving some VP's faces) and further diversify the lineup (re-igniting disappointing iPhone 8 demand)
It would underline the luxury/fashion momentum which is your premier mission.
And don't forget about yourself (note: this goes beyond the mere selfish intentions that might be misinterpreted as egoist): it certainly would benefit your social corporate status if people see you around with your upleveled iPhone X - as that will further elevate diversity at Apple and feminism in general...
And foremost: it is Just How Apple Works - especially after you came in...Tim will love it and be soo excited.
I can only see positives !
(and, to make other products look more affordable, it should be done anyway...)

Having said so, I think it is time for a pre-halloween bonus that reflects your genius mind...

This is a good thing. I hope they keep the traditional iPhone form factor around for a while, as I don't really have any interest in the iPhone X. OLED screens are way too unnaturally color-saturated and I like my TouchID.
The Samsung OLEDs look saturaated because they are tuned that way. They are actually over saturated. OLEDs themselves in general don’t over saturate colors.

The "iPhone for everybody" in this case is like saying "we know not all customers need diamonds, so we sell gold as an option depending on the person you are"

Oh please, how about you stop sounding so elitist yourself. You know EXACTLY what you're getting into when you go to a Tiffany's. You don't just stumble into one of their stores. I would know since my wife's engagement ring & wedding band are from there.

With Apple, they were never known for "luxury" wear goods. The whole purchasing experiencing for the gold watches just screamed elitism. Those scoffing, myself included, is because Apple is a tech company, not a luxury jewelry company.

So...because they've never made something like it before means they can't try to do so now?

I'm far from elitist, and I'm also far from being able to afford one of Apple's Edition watches. But I take 0% issue with that and everyone who does should still realize the same thing I said, that you don't like for the exact same reason: it's not meant for you.

I never did understand the hate considering there was nothing different about the gold watch other than it being solid gold. It didn’t have a better screen or faster chip, more memory or bigger battery. It was identical to its stainless steel counterpart in every way except for materials it was made out of. I guess it came in a slightly nicer box but that was it. I don’t get how that could be offensive to people.

The hate is because of colossal jealousy. It's not like really expensive gold watches haven't existed before, just no one pisses on Macy's or Nordstrom for putting one out because they're used to averting their eyes when walking through the department store entrance at the mall or on their way to the clearance section.

But ********s of people who can't afford the 10k+ watches from the upscale section do visit Apple a lot, and now it's plastered in front of their faces that here's a version of a product they can have at $300 but instead for 10k or more and in gold.

They never pissed on Drake or a Kardashian for wearing a gold watch before but now it's open season and Apple's the one delivering so of course they're getting whacked left and right by everyone who can't afford one.

The most amusing part is while those people are being so pissed off about it and accomplishing nothing meaningful with their lives, Apple's raking it in and has absolutely no PR reason to address that issue because of the very clear reason that this particular product was never meant to be purchased by a lot of people.

Everyone who got angry about it to the extent that was seen should really be ashamed of themselves. Perhaps if they redirected that attention towards developing their careers maybe they too might be able find themselves in a position where affording that is possible. Or maybe not, or maybe they'd get that far only to find out they still don't want it.

But really though, who cares?

The pricing and memeory gap is what upsells a person doing the job of the sales person. Having a 128GB iPhone 7 can't switch to a 128GB iPhone X, my options are to downgrade my memory by half or double my memory with the most expensive phone ever mass produced. Plus since I'm on the apple upgrade plan I have to tack on an extra $200 for the mandadory apple care bring the total to $1349 before tax (add 10%) looking at $1470 if I want an iphone X. You would think at this price the extra hardware for the fast charging would be included, nope keep digging in that wallet add another $70-$80 if you want that feature. Wait you want a case too? With a screen protector? Add $40. Sorry Apple you lost me this time.

This is dumb. Employees don't need to upsell to iPhone X, because upselling is already built into the pricing model...

Prices (USD) for iPhones on Apple.com: $349, $449, $549, $649, $669, $699, $769, $799, $849, $949, $999, $1149.

I rest my case.

I don’t think you know what upselling means. You’re listing every price point, so? How is that upselling?

The only upsell they would likely do is offer accessories. I'm not sure if the Apple store has any quota based setup for their employees but if they do, it would be mostly around accessories I'd think. It wouldn't matter about which phone because it'll practically sell itself as they only sell iPhone devices there. So there will be an iPhone in every price range. I think I read somewhere that they don't sell that many iPhone devices though, it's retailers. Which means they probably don't profit as much after giving carriers the bulk discounts. That's why they started the iPhone upgrade program. Which is great and all but... AppleCare+ doesn't cover theft.

And the tongue-in-cheek response: Yeah, you'd need to have them in stock in order to upsell.

This is the BEST and most perfect timing post I’ve ever come across a thread here in years! Especially after the first, second and third pro Apple posts that immediately followed the news article preceding them. Well done.

Probably not an iPhone.

Exactly! No child at 6 or 7 “NEEDs” an iPhone! Should anyone argue its about education then get them an iPad Mini 4. Kids at that age usually only call for emergencies, talk to a family member (with another family member present beside them), or Ghostbusters.

Is Angela freakin high with that 6/7 yr old target shopping comment?!

What about 64 - gap - 256 GB, Angela?

Who at Apple was in charge decided that the tiers should be 64/256GB on board storage only? I’d like to rag-doll slap them around the floor like the Hulk did to Loki!! The iPhone X with its price should’ve been 128/256 just like the 7 did with Jet Black and Black models.

I don’t think you know what upselling means. You’re listing every price point, so? How is that upselling?

I think he’s saying that it’s easier for Apple to justify their $999/$1149 iPhone X because they can say “hey, we have iPhones that start at $350! you don’t have to spend $1000+!”

And some people are going to want the latest and greatest and want to get as far away from the entry model as possible.

The pricing structure disagrees, if you're looking at an 8 plus, the pricing is already up there to the extent you'd just as well go with the X. Having said that, I will give them credit for not doing something like dropping the 7 series so you'd only have a choice between the SE, 6s, (price bumped)8 or 10 - as the range currently stands it probably offers the best range of choice and value for customers who don't need the latest and greatest ever.

Upsells are AppleCare and previously One to One and MobileMe memberships. They might now have metrics for iCloud storage upgrades, but that would be hard to tie to an associate.

In the UK retailers are legally obliged to talk about insurance products like AppleCare+, they can’t “recommend” it but they must outline the facts and offer a source of more detail, for ever customer. This is for practically anything that has insurance, whether it be a phone, a car or a mortgage.

Of course they are not trying to upsell. They got ships full of iPhone 8 and the iPhone X is already sold out until February 2018.

"incredible iPhone", "you won't be dissapointed"? what is incredible about iPhone and do you buy the new one every year?

Precisely the reason for 64/256 on the 8 and X. It's also interesting that not much is mentioned over Apple creating a new entry price point of $999. IMO, the new entry level pricing on the 8 and X is a bigger deal than spending $1,200 on a X. Apple may have bitten off more than it can handle. A 25% entry price increase could backfire. :apple:

Is it wrong to assume that the lady is so far removed from reality that it’s scary? Shopping for an iPhone for a 7-year-old child? This is what excessive compensation makes to the minds of Apple executives. They lose touch with the real people.

OLED screens WERE over-saturated and unnatural. I hope we get a bezel-less OLED iPhone SE with dual cameras and OIS... I’m not holding my breath.

I was thinking....I don't remember an Apple Store employee ever trying to upsell me on anything. Or, even attempt to sell me anything I didn't seem interested in.

That's been my experience as well, going back 15 years of shopping at Apple Stores.

I can expect a greeting at the door and a casual "can I help you with anything" and then it's pretty much hands-off after that. When I purchase a computer or iPhone the sales person usually asks, just once, if I want AppleCare. But a simple "no-thanks" or "yes" and the sale is done. No prodding about extra memory, faster cpu options, cables, cases, rustproofing, or Polyglycoat protection.

Has always been a perfect shopping and sales experience.

That is BS - this has already happened by keeping the 8 at last years premium price point and creating a new price point for the X.

Let's see.... would you like a 4 year old design or our new shiney premium phone (new premium price point ) - Apple knows their fans.... they have already voted with the 8 selling badly .
