Oh please, how about you stop sounding so elitist yourself. You know EXACTLY what you're getting into when you go to a Tiffany's. You don't just stumble into one of their stores. I would know since my wife's engagement ring & wedding band are from there.

With Apple, they were never known for "luxury" wear goods. The whole purchasing experiencing for the gold watches just screamed elitism. Those scoffing, myself included, is because Apple is a tech company, not a luxury jewelry company.

What's wrong with offering gold watches to people who can afford it, though? You can still go into Apple and know what you're "getting into". If a company sells a product that ranges from $349 to $15k (or whatever), that doesn't seem very elitist to me. It sounds like smart product development. People bought those slow-ass gold first gen watches. But to offer the same product at a more affordable price point ($349) totally disproves your condemnation of Apple being elitist. People who don't understand that logic sound bitter they can't afford the high end models ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I hope this ends up being the case.

My friend had an OLED based Android phone for a while and I hated the oversaturated look. His next phone was LCD based and looked SO much better.

It's concerning because even if you can set the phone to be less saturated, Apple usually isn't big on providing those sort of options. Look how long it took us to get Nightshift.

I would not worry. Apple isn't going to put out a phone like that. And I do know exactly what you mean on Android. My neighbor has had several OLED-based phones and they've looked ghastly because the saturation is cranked to 11.

Unlikely to be the case on the iPhone X.

Hey Angela, I need a good phone with a modern screen and a good camera. Also I want big storage for my photo's and videos. I also want a digital assistant that understands and works. Also maps that are up to date with transitions and cycling paths. Sorry, what you say? € 700 not enough? And you don’t sell something with a good assistant? You recommend the Samsung Galaxy S8 for me because it’s so much better than the € 799 iphone 7 and has a better screen to body ratio, Amoled screen and all the other things I expect from a modern phone? Thanks Angela, I’ll go shop somewhere else
Anyone claiming Bixby is a good AI assistant just has to be a Samsung-paid troll. Siri sucks but come on.

I mean you can't really upsell someone on a $1000+ phone that only has a budget for like half that anyways, so

the products sell or dont sell themselves, the employees won't make any material difference in consumer decision making imo

I refuse to spend $1,000, taxes included on a phone, Apple, Samsung, whatever, and the iphone 8 is recycled and redundant for iphone 7 owners like myself.

Hard to upsell the X when they won't have any in stock. So in other words they will try and sell you the 8 or 8 Plus instead because they don't want you leaving without spending money.

Except that Apple Store reps don't upsell any product, whether a phone or computer, anyway. Nor will they try a hard sell with the 8 should it be in stock. So an upsell has never been a worry, whether a device is in stock or not. People are just making stuff up. It's not like buying a car at a dealership.

Seems many here have never been to an Apple store.

As a former Apple Store employee, this is how things always worked. The idea is to match the customer with the product which is truly right for them.

Oh spare me the manipulative Apple drivel.

X will sell itself. No one is buying that garbage 8 so sales needed.

'If they're 6 or 7 years old, what do they need?'

Definitely nothing above a value of $100. So nothing from the Apple store

Upsells aren’t needed. The huge markups are good enough to get to a Trillion.

Bit late for that.. The tag line is done. If Apple in-store employers start saying "It's up to you" that would be enough to shock me.

6 or 7 years old. Really?

I have a two year old relative who has one. She likes to FaceTime with other relatives and play toddler games.

I call BS on that. I was picking up my iPhone 8 on launch day (in Toronto, CAN) and when I got to the store they tried to "sell me everything" under the sun. He was trying SO hard to get me to buy other stuff that I told him point blank to F OFF with that upsell crap. Grabbed my iPhone 8 and left.

Well technically that's a cross-sell not an up-sell ;-)

1. Go to school and work hard
2. Get a job and work hard
3. Pay your debts because you work hard
4. Buy your child an iPad or iPhone because you’ve got the money that you earned working hard.

Not rich nor famous. Just hard working citizens. Can you do that?

Of course, the above depends on weather a person worked hard or party hard in their youth.

Being able to afford something doesn't mean you should.
Buying iPhones for 6 year olds falls perfectly into this category.

Needs own iPhone instead of using other family members? Shared iPad more appropriate?

Their choice. Her parents don't want her using their phones (I certainly wouldn't either). They're financially comfortable so it's not a big deal. She's the youngest, but all my little nieces and nephews have their own phones; a few are hand me downs from me. Adding another phone to unlimited plans these days is only $20/month and then they can all FaceTime or text or snap other cousins and friends wherever they may be. It also provides the parents an easy communication method for pickups from school or when out at activities and such.

^ THIS. Will never buy another phone from a carrier; they were so obnoxious at the Verizon store with the upsell, one time was too much.

If anything, Apple attempted to get me to sign for classes and asked me if I knew about their business arm. Politely said no to both. I had to ask about accessories.

Both of those are free though, so it's not an upsell rather than just letting you know what services are offered to you.

Really? You sure about that? Because I’m pretty sure the Pixel 2 just got released and has similarly large bezels.

Actually, you are right about the small pixel. The XL benzel's are way smaller at least, but the smaller one just looks super silly!

Samsungs are looking freakishly gorgeous these days (hardware wise)

Actually, I am surprised how Apple store employees not trying to upsell anything to me.

When I bought my iPad Pro 10.5, the Apple store lady chatted with me on what I want to do with my iPad. I told her I like the side by side multitasking. Then she said the 2017 iPad can do that also, so I may not need an iPad Pro. Like the lady actually tried to talk me out of buying a more expensive item into buying a cheaper item. Then when we are talking about accessories for the Apple Pencil, she said just put it in a pencil case and don’t buy the leather case holder. And finally, I had to tell her I wanted Apple care +. She didn’t even mention it, and later she said most people don’t want it anyway.

Second experience, when I bought the Nike sports band for my AW. I told the guy helping me out that I like the Nike band because it has more holes for easier adjustment than the standard silicone band. Then he asked me if I tried using the additional shorter band already included with my AW, suggesting me that I might not need to buy an extra band. Dude, let me give you my money... LOL.

It is refreshing from the usual sales people in other stores who will upsell and bombard you with more stuff to buy.

Thanks. I knew that; :) but they were super pushy about it which reminds of me when sales reps try to upsell. I understand they have to ask these (and in the How did we do? survey I was even questioned about if they asked me these, which I found just a bit ridiculous.) I politely said "No thank you" because I knew they were forced to say something. This questioning (3x one visit and 2x the second) actually pushed me out of the store which is the exact opposite reaction Angela and her team could want. How many times do I have to say "No thank you, not interested" nicely before I leave?

Hey, I get it. :apple: want people to become eventual long term customers. They've already got one right here. I enjoy using their products as I have for decades now.

For me, Apple products do all the talking.

“oh for your budget we can give you a iphone 7, but I thought you loved your wife? Yes, this is how you order an iPhone X”

I love my wife and I know better than to surprise her with that huge credit card bill! :D
