Announcement: Major changes for the Marketplace forum

argh... good changes. now us long time "lurkers" need to start contributing to get that post count up...

I've been a member for a long time and have done plenty of transactions in the marketplace and I think it sucks that I can't use it anymore but I guess requiring 250 posts to sell something isn't too bad. My absolute biggest complaint is that you need 250 posts just to see the forum and buy something. I really think buyers should be allowed to see the forums after 150 or 175 posts.

I agree but I think everyone should be allowed to see the FS forum just not have access to it until you have reached 200, 250 is too high. It's hard to have 250 posts when you have other forums that you visit daily and virtually all topics here are not worth to reply. "What finger do you use to touch your Ipod touch" or something stupid "Post a picture of what you're wearing" Geez... Get a life

This is awful, I'm an established trader, but don't spend much time posting on other section :( But what needs to be done has to be done.

I agree that there are a lot of discussions that are hardly worth the time if you take them seriously.

But, I take them lightly, and occasionally just jump in to mess around and have fun with the people.

Usually, I'll just jump in and mess with them while waiting for the kids to fall asleep.

If I find a serious thread that I can help out with, then I'll do so. But, if it's just stupid stuff, then I'll just have fun with it.

I really think buyers should be allowed to see the forums after 150 or 175 posts.

And yet if it were 150, there would still be those that would say it should be 50 or 75. I suppose the line had to be drawn somewhere.

This is really a non issue regarding activity.

If you've been a member longer then 6 months then set a goal of 10 posts a day (Easy) and you'll reach it in a month.

If you don't meet the 6 month time frame then break those 250 posts over your remaining time. Who knows you might become addicted^^

10 post a day? that's bizarre

I'd say a better goal to set is to make posts which genuinely contribute to a discussion or answer someone's query, rather than posting simply to increase your post count.

Marketplace forum for my 12" Powerbook?

Hi, either I'm blind or the marketplace/for sale forum is gone....is that still kosher on this site?

jesus, is that the only way? What if i have other references/heatware?

No sorry. I remember arn saying that they were going to make a Marketplace for people with less than 250 posts (new members really). No say though on when it will be opened.

I think that the 250 post requirement is good!

I'd rather not get scammed, thank you very much.

Seriously, who's going to try to get 250 posts just to scam someone?

It's not ridiculous; to put a bluntly: New members aren't trusted.

agree. there are people who join only to use the marketplace. they come in and throw some low ball offers around and then never check their PM's again. i have had many a person commit to buy and then never log in again.

i will say the new marketplace has almost ZERO traffic, but atleast I know the people on it.

I did that when I first joined in 2005. I wanted to sell an old Clamshell, but nobody responded. I now see why. Its all for protection and I have no problem with it.

the 250 posts is great
but even better is the "must be a member for 6 months" rule

who is going to wait 6 months to try to scam someone?

im trying to get 250 posts. is the marketplace a good place to buy stuff?

Yeah. A lot of people here have a lot of cool stuff for sale. People offer great prices for Macs (cheaper than eBay). People here are really nice and easy to do business with. I try to do as much business here as possible because eBay is a pain.
