In years past, FedEx held on to the packages so they'd be delivered on the 24th. Do we know that this won't be happening again this year?
Apple sent an email telling people that despite what FedEx and Apple tracking said, they should expect in on the 23rd.

Either way, if they can deliver the majority of those 600,000 phones a day early, that's probably at least 500,000 activations that will happen a day early, which will hopefully give people in the stores a better chance of getting in and out without any activation server issues (from too much volume).

No. I have a reserve and look forward to grabbing mine on the 24th. I'm actually glad people are getting them early as it will hopefully lead to less issues with activation.

This.

Hopefully we will be able to activate now on the 24th given the situation on pre-order day.

If they thought people were upset they couldnt pre-order, just think what they will be like if they actually have the phone...but cant use it because they cant get it to activate.

Been smart? How is preordering vs. reserving "smart"? Yeah, it'd be really "smart" for me to have an iPhone delivered to my home while I'm at work so someone can steal it before I get home. Also, some people couldn't get the phone preordered... they were stuck with reserving. Think before you post.
This. I tried to preorder for home delivery for 7 hours before finally giving up and "settling" for a reservation. I tried a few more times to preorder after that as well, with 0 success. It ain't just a matter of being "smart."

I'm hoping the staggered release will do a little toward alleviating the strain on the activation servers, but I'm not gonna hold my breath on that one. I'm just thankful to be in east where I can (hopefully) get a 1-hour head start on the rest of the country.

I'm taking my i4 to the apple store tomorrow and will place it on the table with the old iPhones and will step back a bit.

See if I can create a little exitement...... :D

Of course my name is in it to prove I own it.

j/k

Now this is funny. Take a picture - I would love to see the reactions of people/Apple store staff.

Anyone else a bit annoyed that if you made a reservation to get the iPhone 4 on opening day, partly so you could be the first anywhere to get it, you are now getting it 1 day later than others who aren't anywhere near an Apple store and/or chose mail-order?

Kind of takes a bit of the excitement away from the hassle of rushing to an Apple store on release day and waiting in the reservation line.

What does being the first anywhere to get it win you??

This is really pathetic. For the first time in my life I'm sympathizing w/ the Soup Nazi. Some of you people are just sad in the the minute things that piss you off. You should be ordering Prozac, not phones.

It's sadder that you can sit on the internet judging and chastising people via text when you don't even know them. Yeah I'm pissed about the white iPhone... I come on here and talk about it... when I walk away from my Mac I generally don't even think or talk about it... That's why I come to these forums to vent/discuss these things. It's not like I walk around work or the mall and think about how pissed I am about the iPhone... Don't be so judgmental.

I'm one that will be getting mine in the mail tomorrow, but if the situation was reversed I wouldn't care .

I'll only be "excited" when the phone is in my hands so I really don't care when the next person gets it.

I can admit to a twinge of jealousy that some folks are getting their iPhones the day before I can pick mine up. However, if this means the activation experience will be smoother and I can get in and out of the store faster, then I'm all for it. Congrats to those who will be getting their iPhones on the 23rd!

This only makes things easier for people on the 24th as far as activations go etc.. This is a good thing for them as well. They still get the phone when they expected and now might actually be able to use it faster than they otherwise would have been. A win-win if you ask me.

Didn't you hear? The phones delivered on the 23rd have diamonds in them! It's one freaking day! Deal with it!

I think you should protest by going to the Apple store on the 23rd and announcing that you will hold your breath until they give you your phone.

Yea I'm a little pissed off. I don't need sympathy but I also don't need advice to 'grow up' or 'order some Prozac'. Thanks but why are you in this thread?

i had mine mailed to my house and its getting here the 23rd but i got the e-mail today and posted it and everyone got mad lol but i dont care im just happy.

Those actually griping about this reminds me of Steve Jobs being given Employee #0 at Apple because Steve Wozniak was already Employee #1 and he didn't want to be #2.

****ing ridiculous.

Your iPhone 4 comes with a nice bag though and all I get is a lousy brown or white shipping box.

The only funny thing is that all the people in this thread speaking down on us would be crying bloody murder if the situation was reversed. Why don't you accept that some people aren't very happy with the fact that they won't be the first to get the phones as they were previously led to believe?

Hey guess what??? Not only am I getting my iPhone 4 a day ahead of time, but it will be white, and super special. Oh and it has a kung foo grip to boot!

Lol really? Thats the first time Ive heard of this :p

Yup:

When Apple Computer appointed its first Board of Directors, the Board insisted that all employees wear name badges with a number indicating the order in which they were hired. They assigned Steve Wozniak, who did all the engineering of the highly successful Apple II computer, the title Employee No. 1. Steve Jobs was officially Employee No. 2. Jobs protested but the Board refused to change the badge assignments. Jobs offered a compromise: He would be Employee No. 0, since 0 comes before 1 on the mathematical model known as a number line. Considering that MANY people already have the phone, I wouldn't get too worked up about it.

Besides, two days later, who will give a crap? YOU won't even care.

As much as I am an Apple fanboy, this is the kind of stuff that makes me question people's sanity.

What bothers me most is that people who get the phones a day early also get blessed with worry-free and easy activation.

The rest of us will be struggling with at&t's servers, or waiting an extra day to attempt activation, or stuck with an inactive phone for who knows how long. It could well be a nightmare that a bunch of random people were privileged enough to avoid by getting their phones early.

I don’t understand the rational of being upset about other peoples good fortune when it does not come at your expense. I will be meeting some old college friends to go out and have a blast Wed night and end up at the Apple store to wait and have fun hanging out over the night.

Would I trade that for getting the phone the day before.. No but that's just my choice.

For those of you that are waiting in line for the phone only and didn’t want to order the phone because you would have had to wait a few extra hours for delivery and those that tried to preorder but had to settle for a reservation you're still getting the phone at the same time. As a matter of fact you will most likely get it faster since the network will be less taxed.

Someone mentioned having a slight ping of jealousy, I get that, but overall you should be pleased that some people will get their phone early and you may get out of line a little sooner.
