iLounge spotted another physical iPad 2 model being used to demonstrate a docking system at CES 2011.
The shell, which has been marked by developer Gopod Mobile with “iPad 2” and “128GB” logos that would not appear on the actual device, is being shown paired with an iPad 2-specific foldable rechargeable battery pack developed by the company, and depicts the revised device’s redesigned curves, ports, and cameras; it is said by Gopod to represent the actual appearance of the as-yet-unreleased thinner and slightly smaller iPad.
The iPad 2 model is complete with front-sided camera hold, enlarged speaker grill and a backside camera. It also follows the tapered edges with flat-back that has been depicted in numerous case designs.

Apple is expected to launch the iPad 2 in the first quarter of 2011 with some expecting an announcement within the next few weeks.

idk, i like the speaker.

looks like it is actually meant to be used, rather than just a tinny little thing to show off a clip.

I like the new look. If this is it.

So we are assuming the larger speaker will actually sound better? Why? Because it's bigger?

In my opinion, it looks like a step down from the current design.
I'm sure it looks better in person, if that is the real design. It says iPad 2 on the back ... maybe its a Chinese knock-off. I think its a fake.

i too am still not sure what i think about that speaker.

but this reminds me of what everyone was saying about the seams on the iphone 4 and the volume buttons. once apple said it was the antenna everyone was like WOAH i do like it. im not saying the speaker is some "magical" component but i feel deja vu :D

Fake

This has fake all over it. "iPad 2"? Even if these are prototype images, Apple generally does not name product revisions with numerical increments (the iPhone may be an exception). As others have mentioned, a rear facing camera? I can't imagine holding a large iPad to take a picture. A front facing camera makes more sense for video conferencing.

Fake. Period.

If you really wanted a true iPad speaker upgrade there would be a speaker on each side(in landscape mode) and , God forbid , they would be forward facing. Cup your hand behind the back of the speaker on an iPad to reflect the sound forward to see what I mean. Im not saying it would look good but it sure would sound better .

No **** thats fake. We are looking purely at the design.

Wow. Sorry, I'm not Ms. Cleo. No one made any comment on its authenticity, unless you know something we don't. If it's "fake" why are you even bothering "looking at the design"?

PS nice way to address someone.

If that's it, it looks like ****. Reminds me of a combination of the original iPhone's back design fused with an Early-Mid 2000s Mac. This design would not mesh with ANY of the current products produced by Apple. The rear camera would see little real-life use. Seriously, who is going to hold that thing up to take video or a quick snapshot- that will look ridiculous. Lazy ass design if you ask me. No innovation there.

I'm not sure if being in "the know" is worse. I will get my new iPad in the mail tomorrow or Friday and I already want to take it back just in case the new one has a gyroscope. I know thats not completely rational

All the excitement of my new toy is gone. If they don't announce the iPad2 on the rumored date of the 11th then I'm just going to get over it enjoy my new pad.

I am absolutely sure now that I'm waiting for the new revision before buying the MBP.

I'm just thinking out loud, with my experiences with my roommates Palm Pre and HTC Evo, but I think a rear facing speaker is a bad design. It is hard to hear sounds if the surrounding are noisy or the audio quality is bad or low. My ears are by my eyes, so, if anything, the speaker should face me.

same...i could see a front facing camera definitely, but who knows.
While I'm sure Apple disagrees with me, I'd much have a rear-facing camera to take advantage of augmented reality applications than a front-facing camera for FaceTime features I will never use. But if people are saying a rear-facing camera is unlikely just because it's awkward--well, you're not taking into account all the potential applications.

exactly! Like the scanner app for iPhone. I could go completely paperless with an app like that.

Great app for the iPhone but for a large iPad? Not so much. Could you imagine trying to hold a ~10" iPad to scan an item?

As for augmented reality, does that not require holding the device in front of you as you look around (for a store/stars/directions)? Again, I just don't see such a large device benefitting from a rear camera. The iPhone is great due to its smaller design, but a large iPad?
