It'd be nice if Touch ID worked anywhere on the screen when locked.

I hope the hole in the back is for wireless charging as someone else said... please no Touch ID on the back.

This can't be iPhone 8 it essentially has the same build as a 7.. Touch ID and Camera aside.
The design doesn't look much like iPhone 7 to me, consider the edges. In the pictures it doesn't really make a smooth curved transition to the back, more like a flat, right angle transition (unlike iPhone 7/6s/6)

How does that work in software though, short of leaving the huge chin to accommodate the Touch ID sensor?

I was skeptical when I first heard the rumours of them trying to embed it into the display, just don't see how that works.
As far as software goes, swipe up from bottom edge can bring up software Home button. The rumored issue is hardware aspect of embedding scanner within display.

Such technology doesn't really exist yet. I guess they're realizing this now. I think in the end they'll probably just make it look like Touch ID is integrated when in fact it isn't.

I call BS, there is no way in hell Apple is dumb enough to put TouchID in the back. This is a fake leaked schematic of a prototype. Apple will incorporate TouchID into the front screen, even if it means low yield rates, the iPhone 8 will simply be limited in stock initially. Apple have been producing amazing phones year on year. Do you people honestly believe Apple would take a step back?

Edit: No way in hell. Mark my words. We will all be pleasantly surprised when the IPhone 8 is unveiled.
Apple has been iterating on the same stale design for three years in a row. Your bravado is charming, but has very little grounding in reality.

What does have grounding in reality is that leaks at this time of year usually turn into announced products in the fall, like the iPhone 7 did even though everyone was shouting that Apple would NEVER make the big, hideous camera bubble, like the iPhone 6 did even though everyone was shouting that Apple would NEVER make the thick, hideous antenna lines.

If you're going to have dual cameras on a smartphone the vertical design makes perfect sense. When the camera is held in portrait you're taking a vertical photo. When you hold the phone in landscape the cameras are horizontal giving a better wide screen photo. How do people not understand this?

You can all breathe a sign of relief, well know leaker is already discrediting. Likely faked renders. look..

Naww, it's the real deal. Of course with how far behind they are they would repurpose as much as possible.
The "edition" is just a nicer 7 series. The real 8 comes next year as usual.

Really? did you even read Steve's tweets? He put some decent reasons why it likely isn't.

There is no way Apple is moving TouchID to the back. What an ugly and impractical design decision.

Which would mean it would have to be a part of control centre which means you would have to have it enabled within apps. That would be one clunky solution, particularly for Apple Pay transactions.

No not quite the same and he takes some mighty big leaps to come to his conclusion. It's the real deal. That's what the 'edition will be.
