I am beginning to accept the fact that THIS IS THE NEXT iPHONE. Past experiences with leaks of the 5, 5c, 5s, 6, 6s, and the 7 have always been consistent with the final design. We almost never saw schematics that didn't match the final product.

This is the next iPhone. It's awful, and way off the hype that's been created for this phone for 3 years now, but this is it. Tim Cook's Apple is notoriously known now for leaking things to prepare people; we had reports from 2015 that Apple was going to remove the headphone jack in 2016, and they did it.

So let's not beat around the bush and make stupid claims, THIS IS THE 2017 iPHONE.

No it's not. Kthnxbaai.

Why even have a seperate area for a scanner when they have a perfectly acceptable Apple logo they can use for it? (just make it indented and glass)
Makes no sense. Placement would be better too 3/4 up the phone.
That's if they even decide to go that route with it on the back.

When did we ever see a schematic of the iPhone that didn't turn out as the final thing? It's the same thing every year.

Just because it happened previously does not mean it will happen this year. As was mentioned earlier, this schematic could have been leaked a while ago to Samsung and they used that schematic to put the fingerprint sensor at the back. I'm saying, don't trust everything you hear or read on the internet. There is no way Apple will stoop this low, simply not happening.

Edit: Why is it not possible that this leaked schematic is of a prototype? It is definitely a prototype and this will not make it to production. I can assure you that.

IMO, there's no way that Apple follow Samsung with a rear Touch ID.

The end.

I agree with you that the hole on the back of the case may be for something else other than a TouchID element. Like you say, it could be for an inductive charging point.

I wonder if this is for another sensor altogether. Perhaps a forward facing 3D sensor/scanner?

Maybe it will be a charging point, that will also be compatible with the Apple Watch charging puck...?

Is there a reason to switch to vertical cameras or is that change simply for the sake of change? Honest question.

Well, probably if you handle the iphone horizontally you may be able to do 3D (stereoscopy) pictures even the lenses are very close. The other reason my be taking pictures where you can later change the depth of field.

Those would be my wildest ideas IF. Still, look ugly as hell.

As much as I love the idea of an all glass phone with a steel band, reminiscent of the iPhone 4, I will NOT buy a phone with TouchID on the back. Just look at all the reviews for the Samsung S8 (and previous Android phones with a rear mounted biometric sensor.)

It's a terrible ergonomic design.

One possibility is that the circular cutout on the rear is actually for wireless charging, rather than Touch ID.

Now that would be awesome, provided the charger is small and magnetic, like on the Apple watch.

I hope this is a prototype.
Because it is longer and wider than a s8 and even longer and wider than a lg g6.
If this is all apple can do because of mass productions and yields and they release this this year, at least they won' t have to worry about the mass production next year, because a lot if apple consumers will have looked elsewhere.
Every year we see great concepts and rumors and every year we end up dissappointed by the final product. Sorry, but another year of bigger bezels and chins than the competition , aluminium, antenna lines, perhaps even touchid on the back, and a faster soc, won' t cut it for me anymore.
I have been a very good customer for years, and have been very loyal and supporting. But if this is the final anniversary edition for which we have to pay more money, and this is what they would deliver, no thanks...

I just think the position of the Touch ID is strange, maybe it should be up a bit. Maybe it won't be a problem with a big phone.

Aesthetically, the Apple logo being the finger print scanner would be neat.

Looks familiar...

No it wouldn't, it would be horrendous, and Apple knows this.

This is yet another confirmation of Apple's complete and utter creative bankruptcy. Even if that circle on the back is for wireless charging, Apple could have and should have implemented that into the Apple logo easily. Nope, it's not for wireless charging. My bet is that it *is* Touch ID (not as easily incorporated with the logo) because Apple has shown no desire to do anything "differently" lately and will push whatever mediocre garbage it can spew out onto its customers. Take, for example, the fact that Apple adopted protruding cameras with the iPhone 6. That NEVER would have happened under the previous, more creative Apple that actually cared about the aesthetics of its products.

And what is this, a larger recycled iPhone 4 design? My god Apple, you've already done the flat phone with metal bands... you did it like 5 years ago. If you're bringing back the past, why don't you also revive the Mac Pro tower and give customers what they want instead of spending millions designing a new Mac Pro?

They employ hundreds of thousands of people and supposedly have one of the best industrial designers in the world (questionable at this point) asleep at the wheel. There are probably three to five people at Apple who looked over previous designs and thought, what can we recycle this year?

Whatever is going on in the back, I can promise you that it will be the worst of everything that is being discussed here because that's what Apple does, now.

This is looking grim. I think everyone should be prepared to see the next iPhone with Touch ID on the back. We've seen schematics like this before in the past and they turned out to be true. Now it's very possible that this is just 1 of Apple's designs.

Something else that people aren't talking about is the sides are flat, not rounded. I welcome this change.

since KGI said all of three new iphones will have inductive charging, since this has aluminium back...maybe is the iphne 7s plus, but this have a more compact dimensions so its conflicts with others rumours . Also if this is iphone 8 why aluminium back? why no cutout for volume? again it conflicts

That's a great observation. Why does this schematic show a unibody aluminum back? It's possible that the hole below the apple logo is for wireless charging.

According to the drawings it will look something like this on the front, and in this video the back looks nicer than these drawings. Really a lack of imagination by apple.

or what if it's the design for the 7s and 7s Plus rather than the 8 which will have Touch ID under the display.

Wouldn't make sense.
s means spec and feature bump with zero to minor design changes, not a totally different product.

If you ask me, Apple is always doing more than one prototype for different designs, this might be one of them but won't be the final product.

If we don't see real production leaks until 1st of July, I guess there won't be any iPhone 8 / SE / Edition and we were talking next year's model all along.
