all these battery lives even the so called good ones are crap compared to 6.1.4

I'd like to see some comparable screen shots but that's going to be tough. I will say this, I feel like my battery life is much better now than it was on iOS 6.1.4. I used to have to charge through the day on my iPhone 5 on iOS 6. Now on my 5S on iOS 7.0.2, I only have to charge once a day:

That was not indicative of a normal operating day, whereas this one is:

battery2.png

I will say I was expecting the numbers to be higher but I never paid attention to that before on iOS 6.1.4. From general perception, I don't have to charge my phone during the day. I charge it to full in the evening, leave it alone all night, browse, play puzzle games, two email accounts on push, and music streamed to my car via BlueTooth on the drive to and from work. I'm now confident I can just charge it once a day. Granted, I know the 5S battery is bigger although some have complained it's not as long lasting but I can attest to the opposite.

Here is what I currently getting. I stream a little music during he day. Use the iPod a lot at work via Bluetooth headphones. 2 emails on push. I'm pretty happy.

I was distraught with the battery performance of my iPhone 5 after upgrading to iOS 7. However, after following the recommendations of a lot of people here (reset all settings, disable background app refresh etc.), things improved dramatically.

Before, I was lucky to get 5 hours of usage +15 hours of standby.

Now, I'm getting back my pre-iOS 7 battery levels of 8 hours of usage + 1 day 8 hours of standby.

I am so pleased! Wish I had screenshots to prove this... the next time I run my battery down, I'll do a screen capture to at least prove the latter.

Could you tell me specifically what you disabled/did?

Thanks mate,

Listening to music for about 3 hours
Screen 45% brightness
1 hour phone call

im currently at 4.5 hrs of use, 10 standby and im at 43%. horrible if you ask me. i still cant get 8+ hours of use. and this is with no phone calls. god forbid i even attempt those.

sorry guys,
newbie iphone owner, how to capture screenshot showing battery percentage on upper right corner as well as cellular provider. i would to post my battery usage as well. thanks

You can take a screenshot by pressing the home and power button at the same time.

For those with great battery life can you post what you've changed in your settings (if anything) such as.

Turned off push
Turned off parallax
Turned off background all refresh

I have a almost one year old iphone 5. Have

- turned off all location services except weather and compass
- Parallax
- reduced spotlight to 4
- one background update app
- brightness at around 30%
- 1 push mail through Mailbox app

11% battery
Usage 5h 26m
Standby 14h 48m

I'm still under warranty. This is the last month. What do you think, should I take this to an apple store? Is this ok or bad? In compression to some of your screenshots I should get maybe 3-4 more.
Have just browsed, checking Instagram/fb and 1h podcast, small amount of YouTube and 15m call.
Thing is, the backup I'm running on is REALLY old. From 2008!used on 3G, then 4 and now my 5. But I really want my photos to be transferred with the nice locations and the way ios 7 presents the images. I don't think this is possible if you start new? And would love to transfer SMS too. Rest is fine and can be replaced.

Also turns off when it's 7-13% left :(

Thanks in advance for your help!

Is the background app refresh the biggest battery killer? I have them all off except weather.

I can imagine the background refresh of maps apps in particular unloads the battery massively.

Does the parallax setting make much difference by itself?

That doesn't capture the top bar on mine like the poster wanted to include. Am I missing something?

You can't see it in the gallery, because is somewhat reduced, but when you post the photo is complete.
Try to zoom out the photo and you'll see the top bar.

First of all: I don't believe people saying their iPhone 5 lasts 10 hrs of heavy usage. Maybe it can reach that result in aero mode under wifi all day long, browsing the web and a little more else ....
But what I discovered is that iOS 7 on my iPhone 5 is a battery hog when used in area with poor network signal strength. Where I live the coverage is poor to medium, with frequent switch between 3G and E, and my battery lasts no more than 5 hrs (I use iMessage a lot, so the phone is always trying to connect ). Here in my parent's town signal strength is excellent and I can reach 7 hrs of usage with heavy use.

I think is useless to disable almost everything on the phone: my test show a difference of merely 20 minutes or so between a configuration with all the options off and a configuration with almost everything on.
The real problem is network signal strength ...
Maybe iOS 7 is a little more "aggressive" in network searching than iOS 6.

In my test parallax changes nothing and background app refresh just 10-15 minutes (I close every app after use).

Ah ok. Interesting. I'm actually living in a apartment where the signal is often just 1 or dots. Max 3. So that might be the case then. Haven't really noticed any difference either and some may be placebo effect. I'm switching to a different operator in a couple of days so hopefully that will have better coverage and we'll see how the battery deals with that. But even so, the phone shouldn't die at 7-13% and this is probably the thing that irritates me the most. I'm heading over to an apple retail store tomorrow to see if the can notice anything via a diagnostic test of the battery.

I have left those all on. I did switch these system services off a while ago though as recommended somewhere to increase battery life.

Yes, your battery could be defective, because mine die at 1% as intended.
But such a poor signal strength could be the main reason for a shorter battery life: two hrs and half difference for me !

??? That's seem very decent.

At your rate, I'd project you will get.
4.5/(1-0.43) = 7.9 hours of usage if you ran the battery flat out

Apparently if you stay connected to WiFi the battery life will be much better than LTE all day.

How the hell do you guys get this battery life? My 4s got 4 hours, and now my 5s gets about 5-7 hours. That's better, but nowhere close to the numbers in this thread...

What's your standby time, since also getting around those hours if usage, between 3-5h. And standby around 15h. Calling apple right now.

Something similar to yours

Ok. Called apple (Sweden) since there isn't any apple store where I live, only retailers. Was really(!) good support and after describing that my phone acted strange and charging was off, and bad usage/battery time, he said that I could replace the phone in two ways. Express or normal. And since I don't have any other phone to use I choose express. About 30$ and then I'll get a refurbished iphone with all accessories and in box. And the battery and back and front panel will be totally new. Really nice actually and I think totally worth it. Really hope my problems goes away after this.

Here are my current stats:

36%
Usage 3 hours, 44 minutes
Standby 11 hours, 53 minutes

Equates to 5.8 hours... almost 6. About what I usually get. Wish it was a little better. Especially compared to the numbers I see others post.
