I would have left the apps off for a few days and run it without to verify if it is the device and not an app that is going rogue, as could very well be the issue.

I installed just a limited selection of apps .... Let you know if I solved the problem, but I don't think so.

I have to understand... What the hell are you doing on your iPhone to have such long usage time?? I have an iPhone 5 and it's running iOS 7 and after 3 hours of usage it usually dies, but my usage consists of lots of whatsapp, Facebook, browsing, sometimes YouTube... How do I even dream of reaching 7 hours of usage? What is wrong with my iPhone?

I was in a situation like your, with 5 hrs at best.
I tried a complete restore and setup as new and I let you know if it works for me.
I use whatsapp, iMessage (a lot !) , web browsing and sometimes YouTube.

So you tried it already, or are you going to try? I can't even think of setting my iPhone up as new because I have so many things I want to keep, like my messages and whatsapp history... What to do? Are you sure this will improve my battery life? I don't know why, but in any case I think with my really heavy usage it will die after 3 hours.

Today is the first day since complete restore as new, so at the end of the day I'll let you know.

I am not sure at all, actually this is my last attempt.
I had an heavy usage with iOS 6 also, but with 6-7 hrs of usage before the battery died.

Im running a 2008 old ios backup that I've used throughout iphone 2G, 3G, 4 and now 5. And had problems
With my new iphone 5, got around 3,5-5h of use. And really(!) bad standby. I tried all battery tips and they did not reay improve that much at all. Maybe slightly but yet so little that I thought it also could be a placebo effect. But then I tried to turn on and off Safari iCloud in settings. Turn off iCloud for Safari and choose to delete info from this device. Then reboot phone and turn on iCloud for safari. I now get 1 day standby and 6,5-7h usage much depending on how much LTE. Try it out and let me hear what u think.

How do use a 2008 ios backup with icloud?? You mean you still have ios 4 or what??

The backup is from 2008, first iphone, and has since moved to my next phone and next phone. Just chosen "restore from backup" I have always has the backup via iTunes. And when iCloud arrived I just choose to store contacts, calender and such in the iCloud. But having the backup via iTunes. Running 7.0.2. Don't know if I would get better battery time with a compelete fresh install. But now I'm getting a good amount of hours so I don't mind. Just be sure to reset settings and network settings and it seems (and now the Safari icloud I wrote about) to be working fine. Hope I made it clear, sorry for bad English.

Ok first day after the restore as new and I can confirm my theory: nothing changed.

16 hrs standby, 4 hrs 35 mins usage

Network signal strength is the point. I was able to reach 7 hrs only in my hometown where signal strength is strong everywhere.

Just as I thought

I'm noticing slightly more power consumption under iOS 7, but it's something like an extra 5% of battery every 10-11 hours. I'm a light user though.

After the 7.0.3 update my battery life appears to be back to iOS 6 levels. I don't know if this is because of the update or the phone software getting its battery calibration figured out, but I'm happy with it now.

Nice to hear. But for me 7.0.3 made my battery worse. So stupid since I was really pleased with how it worked in 7.0.2 regarding battery time.

7.0.3
Battery: 78%
Usage: 1h 15m
Standby: 1h 33m

7.0.2
Battery: 5%
Usage: ~7h
Standby: 20-23h

I know it's not really a fair comparison since the battery % are so different but don't you agree it seems to have gone from great to bad? I'm giving it one more day otherwise ill year with a restore as new but still be running pretty much the same apps and same settings.

It's also not a fair comparison because usage during different days differs--even if you do the same exact things at the same exact places at the same exact time (and you really never do anyway), the signal strength and other things that might be going on in the background can and do often differ. You would need at least about a week or two worth of observations to really say whether or not the battery usage was noticeably changed one way or another (for you).

Yeah your probably 100% right. But this "bad battery" thing is getting overhand, it's starting to be almost a OCD thing where I'm just thinking of the % up in the corner when I'm using the phone and just want it to be at least 7h every charge otherwise I google the shot out of myself and read all macrumors battery threads over and over. Fml. I'll try this one week and if it's totally rubbish I'll go with the new from restore. Thanks for keeping me sane in this many times battery fixed world we call macrumors. Phew.
