The Newton was first released in 1993. Not exactly "Many years" after 1989.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Newton

Plus, the GriDPad was $3000 and weighed 4.5 pounds (!!!). The Newton was $700 and weighed less than a POUND. Pretty substantial price (and SIZE! and WEIGHT!) reduction (over 3:1 for price, and over 4:1 for weight).

https://everymac.com/systems/apple/messagepad/stats/newton_mp_omp.html

The GriDPad was MUCH more like a tablet TERMINAL than a standalone computing device. The Newton was exactly that.

I wonder what the failure-rate in the field was for that CORDED Stylus?

Oh, and besides, the GriDPad was just a rip-off of the Linus Write-Pad from 1987:

http://oldcomputers.net/linus.html

Of course, it weighed a "LUGGABLE" 9 pounds!!! Imagine carrying THAT thing around...

Those are the precursors to the Ipad and the surface.

PDAs were the precursor to our modern day smartphones.

It's actually all one big incestuous pool of touch-technology.

You do realize, of course, that Apple actually internally engineered an "iPad" BEFORE the iPhone; but then launched the phone first.

https://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2364498,00.asp

And it is also interesting to note (although it is slightly off-topic) that Jobs had two teams compete as to whether the prototype "iPad" would run a version of full-blown OS X or a different OS. After the demo, Jobs green-lighted the OS that would eventually become iOS "because it made more sense", even though he personally favored a tablet that ran a "finger-fied" OS X.

Yeah project purple. ;)

They also forget the the new Note 9 has a Bluetooth stylus, again following Apple.
Surprised it took them this long.

Are you saying Samsung made the stylus first?

Samsung is the only company who's managed to successfully integrate a stylus into a modern smartphone. First launched in 2011, the S Pen has since become a staple of the Samsung Galaxy Note series. In fact, it is what makes a Note phone a Note.

He's saying that Apple will copy Samsung.

No point until Apps are allowed to support it.

Well, actually, the very old jailbreak-only mouse hack works with every single app as it displays a cursor everywhere.

You can't possibly compare a full-fledged and industry standard Wacom pen (that of all Note models) to the proprietary Apple Pencil. For one, the latter doesn't have hovering functionality at all.

Sometimes it's not about being first but offering the best experience. Newton was a POS that failed. Galaxy Note has been thriving with professionals and creators since 2011.
I see what you did there. Great post.
[doublepost=1534535726][/doublepost]
Newton was NOT a POS. It was, like the original iPhone, a Genre-CREATOR. Not so easy to get everything right the first time. Don't believe me? Try it yourself. Plus, the Newton was trying to do stuff that was about a DECADE too-early for the hardware available at the time.
The same thing can be said about the Note, but the difference it didn't fail, even after catastrophic problems it's still here pushing limits and it's more popular and appreciated than ever.

I have to bring both my iPhone X & iPad 12 to accomplish what my husband can do on his Note 5 and spen, a device launched 3 years ago.

I would like to be able to take a call and write notes on the go on a single device without having to juggle both at the same time.

I have my iPhone with me all the time. iPad, no. And i have the Pencil in my purse. So there I am, with the Pencil and iPhone with no way of utilising it. Annoying.

You mean exploding.
Yeah note never recovered from that.

If it's true than prove it.

More than the previous Notes as my link above was clearly pointing out.

How much is that?
Do you know??

Samsung claimed it broke all pre order records with the Note 7 only to reveal they only sold 2 million units during the recall.

S9 were reported to have broken records too during the first month of launch, as reported by Samsung and all the blogs.....now it’s considered a flop.

I see the articles you provided were all dated around the time of the note 9 launch....just like the s9.

I will ask again do you have the figures?

OK so you have no proof for your claims although you said " it's true and everyone knows it". I'm not surprised.

Oh I have the number, but I wasn’t the one that posted this gem:

More than the previous Notes as my link above was clearly pointing out.

The previous note had 0 sales, After being recalled twice for exploding.

The links you provided offer no numbers, not even a single percent in regards to the note 8.

At least pay attention, I clearly wrote previous Notes(as in plural as in Note 5, 4 etc.as well)

The links you provided offer no numbers, not even a single percent in regards to the note 8.

Actually they do.
And it's way more than you provided which is NOTHING.

Anyway it's very obvious that you can't prove your claim that the Note line hasn't recovered after the Note7 problems.

Wait wait...are you claiming the note 8 sold more than all previous notes, Cumalitvley?

Hahahahaha, your hilarious

Let see
Note 7 sold 0
Note 5 sold 20 million units.
Note 4 4.5 million first month
Note 3 sold 5 million first month
Note 2 sold 30 million
Note Sold 10 million
Galaxy note edge 630,000

We would have gotten a press release if Samsung sold more than 80 million galaxy note 8.

Actually they do.

That’s rich, because you haven’t provided a single solitary number.

You have no idea do you, claiming the note 8 sold over 80 million units when the s8 and s8+ only managed 30 million total units.

I will wait you can show me where you provided your numbers.

Again with the absurd interpretations. It doesn't make any sense, why would I mean cumulatively?
Also here.
https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_expecting_galaxy_note8_to_outsell_note5-news-26972.php
The Note 5 didn't sell 20 million units(there is no official information to support this number).
Also here
https://www.techtimes.com/articles/...han-the-galaxy-note-5-prior-to-the-recall.htm
And here
https://www.cnet.com/news/samsung-note-8-becomes-best-selling-note-in-the-us-so-far/

All information points out that the Note 8 has done great in sales end either met or exceeded expectations.

That’s rich, because you haven’t provided a single solitary number.
I actually did but OK here.
https://tribune.com.pk/story/1601268/8-samsung-elec-track-record-fourth-quarter-earnings/
So according to the link above it looks like the Note 8 performed within Samsung's expectations so it was a success. It definitely beat Note 5's sales by now. So from what does Samung's Note line need to recover?

You have no idea do you, claiming the note 8 sold over 80 million units when the s8 and s8+ only managed 30 million total units.

Don't put words in my mouth I never claimed such a thing. I said it sold better than previous Notes not that is sold better than previous Notes cumulatively. If i wanted to mean cumulatively I would have made it very clear.
I will wait you can show me where you provided your numbers.

What number??
It's very amusing that most of your comment resolves around something I never claimed the same way the previous one did. You make it crystal clear that you can't support your claim so why continue?

Yeah I can, just the Bluetooth part, just like was mentioned.
All other notes did not have Bluetooth stylus.
No other references were alluded to.
Stick to what was said not what you think was said.

Buy a Note.
Problem solved.
Right tool for right job.
If you're waiting on Apple it may never happen.

Stylus were common in smartphones only a few years before the Note with WinCE and Palm based devices. Yes they have fallen out of favor over the last decade, but I don’t think you can credit an Apple Stylus as a Samsung copy.
That said the new Note looks fantastic and I have been tempted to jump ship with my next upgrade. If Apple includes Pencil support, there is no contest and I will stay Apple for a couple more years.
