After I saw the conference, I tried to replicate the video and could not get the bars to drop at all no matter how i gripped it. I even tried to completely cover the top with 2 hands where it said the antenna was.
THIS, only done with the iPhone 4. So easy to see how the internet and certain media outlets can manipulate things. After a while I expect this issue to blow over. I feel for Apple if this is truly a non issue like I think it is.

Apple continuously comment on other companies. To blame them, accuse them, make fun of them, whatever. It's like watching a little kid.

"Nya, Nya" - commenting on Microsoft
"He started it!" - commenting on Google
"The other kids do it to!" - commenting on Nokia, etc.

In this specific situation, the traditional response is: "Well, if the other phones jumped of a bridge, would you do it too?"

Of course, I find it highly entertaining but I don't take Apple particularly seriously.

How is this any different than any other company?

Microsoft:
"My thing's bigger than yours" - Apple
"Suck it" - Google
"Nobody likes you, go and Die" - Nokia etc

Honestly, the only company I cant comment on is Google...

Lawsuit happy americans are funny. Sometimes, there's no need to sue. Looking back in disgust is a proper answer. Why waste money on lawyers for something that is obviously bogus ?

Nokia is from Finland, RIM is from Canada. Neither country have a lawsuit prone culture.

Your conclusions are thus wrong that no lawsuit = Apple didn't distort the truth.

Nokia is already suing Apple. Why would they not sue them if they felt Apple had made false claims about one of their products? Add to this that niether response denies the claims and you can be pretty sure that Jobs is on solid ground here.

I'm sorry but your position is overly simplistic and goes against the evidence.

Overblown

This whole issue is way overblown. Less than 1% of iPhone 4 owners are having any issues. I'm not having any problems and I don't know anyone else that is. If you are having problems that return it for a refund or have it exchanged. Jeez, get over it already!

Video was bizarro.

Signal loss occurs on every phone, but it isn't supposed to occur on Apple phones apparently. So Apple loses this PR round. That is actually good for me, I'll buy when they move to Verizon (where I can actually get signal at my home) and I won't have to wait forever for my kit if more people decide not to buy.

Oh yeah, I forgot - more people will not decide not to buy because it's still the best smart phone around (says consumer reports), and antenna issues are solved with a free bumper or case that most people would buy anyway.

Oh well.

P.S. What an odd video. I think some context has been lost in posting/translation. I hope so, anyway. Just odd.

I love when they do this stuff, but it's better when they merely re-interpret the facts with funny animations instead of making up silly crap like this one did. Their Al Gore video was incredible, but it went directly off the testimony of the masseuse and only exaggerated the acting and props.

Yawn. Lets stop this already.

♫If You Don't Want an iPhone 4! Don't Buy It!
If You Bought it and You Don't Like It! Bring it back!

Apparently, the iPhone 4 is so bad, individuals are lining up to return the phone at their original place of sale. Apple stock is in the toilet, accessory manufacturers have ended production runs, Steve J.'s job is on the line, and developers have begun a mass exodus to WinMo and Droid.

 Oh wait. Just kidding.

Let's wait a month and see if people are still on reservation lists, or how the product moves overseas. In the mean time, ponder why 98.3% of iPhone 4 users haven't returned their phones.

Reading both of those statements shows that niether manufacturer is denying the evidence that Apple put forward or that the same issue can can be seen with the handsets shown in the Apple's video. They are, in effect, agreeing with Apple.
This is spot on. If they thought it was incorrect they would be lawsuits. Instead, they could be opening a whole can of worms for themselves...

I don't think Apple was trying to blame their phones or say they had shoddy design. It was an example to show that it was not unique to iPhone 4. No more than that.

Seeing what prick and a liar nutJobs is makes me sorry for buying an MBP recently. Six months back I regarded Apple as a top company, now they're probably the worst in regards to trust, honesty, and responsibility.

So you feel sorry for yourself now then? You, poor victim of malicious Apple Inc and their devilish CEO, who are not allowed -- by any mean -- to explain how far they go to make your pathetic self happy and educate people on what they really do and how they do it?

Guys, hit refresh once in a while and read the entire thread :

Hum, are you comparing a broad reaching patent lawsuit that comes after 3 years of negotiation for patents which are legitimate and licensed by many other tech companies to some frivolous slander lawsuit ?

Having a "lawsuit happy culture" means just that, frivolous suits over "he said, she said" crap. Patents are a completely other thing and involve big dollars, on both sides.

My comment still stands and next time, at least try to think before you post.

Dude - don't feed the trolls. They'll go away.

No, less than 1% had reported issues to Apple at the time that Steve put his press conference presentation together. As if everyone who had this problem actually called Apple about it... most people don't bother. Everyone has an opinion on politics and they can rant for hours and hours about it, but only some 50% can be arsed to actually vote in the US presidential election.

Because they are waiting for the Apple fix

and because you can't return your bought apps or use them on another phone if you sold your old iphone for a new one :p
Not to mention the problem of contracts that not every provider will let you get out of if your phone sucks.

It's not like a simple broken laptop you can return for a refund..
(yes i know about jobs saying you can in the US, but the US isn't the only country in the world :p)

That video was the best thing I've seen in a long time.

This whole debacle has made me lose faith in the MacRumours crowd and society in general. From what I read over the past few weeks, it was either sucking Apple's you-know-what, or bashing the hell out of them. There was no level ground; yes there was an issue, but did a little antenna bridge bother me or obstruct my use of the phone? No.

I think it's not even worth it to pay attention to anything posted on the internet anymore, it's more of an insult on my intelligence than anything else. Thinking of going on a print-only diet for a while, but even then it's pretty much the same dribble you find from news sources these days.

The newspapers, the news blogs, and the news television channels all seem to hop onto a bandwagon that everyone falls for...and if your not on the bandwagon, you get bashed for it.

All that happened to Apple was a small hardware "flaw" (if you can even call it that) which went on to expose the gullibility and stupidity of our modern society who ban together because they need some sense of identity. I have been sickened by you all.

This one needs to stop. Less than 1% (or 0.55%) of iPhone 4 owners have reported having an issue to Applecare. That doesn't mean only those people had the issue...

What about those that reported it directly to a Genius in an Apple Store ? What about those that reported it to AT&T's technical service ? What about those that reported it to AT&T's retail employees ? What about those that decided to take a wait and see approach after the media outbreak ?

What about those...

Seriously, cherry picked statistics are the last thing you want to quote if you actually have some kind of critical thought in the whole matter...

Talk about not understanding what Steve said and twisting facts...

Some of you guys need a SERIOUS reality check.

Apple were being called out big time on this issue so all they did was point out that this issue wasn't exclusive to the iPhone 4. Sure it might be more obvious on the iPhone 4 but that doesn't mean that other products all work perfectly with no hint of attenuation when held.

Apple needed to raise awareness of this in front of the press otherwise their free bumper/case offer would be reported as an admittance of guilt.

You really don't have to be a genius to understand how press conferences/releases work. They're not just directly addressing the users of the iPhone.

Speaking as somebody that can reproduce these problems with the iPhone 4 I'm still happy with the product overall. I don't get dropped calls even though I live in a crappy signal area. I see the signal degrade but the phone still works.

I'd rather it didn't happen but I love everything else about the phone so I'm happy to live with this issue until the next iPhone is released.

We all know it's cool to hate apple. This is affecting a very small percentage of users and yet people are acting like every single iPhone 4 has this issue. I can't wait to get mine in 11 days!

You might take your own advice.

It's already been stated quite clearly that Nokia and Apple are at eachother's throats and there is no reason at all that Nokia would not take advantage of a libellous allegation by Apple should such an allegation have been made. They might not sue them but they would certainly ask for an official retraction. They haven't. Nor have they denied the evidence on show.

If you have anything other than 'they're from Finland' as an explanation as to why this may be then please do enlighten us. If not, please concede that, at the very least, this is a valid point and move on. We're trying to have a mature discussion here.
