Now, now. It's not like that. We're all professionals here and I'm sorry for those who were looking forward to it. I enjoyed the debate, pity it has to come to an end.

True. I also enjoy the debate. I guess I can keep that $1.5k in the bank for now. I did not think today was likely for an update anyway, but I do this there will be update this summer, either at WWDC or somewhere around then. If we don't have an update by end of July, it will indicate that Apple is skipping Skylake, as Kaby Lake will be likely available around Fall.

If it makes you happy, fine, I'll stand behind "nothing at all this year".

Like it really matters? Your life changes if I'm wrong? Let me tell you, my life doesn't change for being right.

Yet you are here defending your position, life does change for you if you are right?

please stop. This subforum is one of the few on this site that isn't inhabited by children or people suffering from extreme OCD. It would be nice to keep these threads useful
And here come the police, meh!

Agreed, it's either a Back To School ramp-up or it's unlikely for this year at this point.

What I will say is that I am moderately surprised that they didn't roll out the new MacBook Pro and/or MacBook Air just as they did the RMB last year. And because of that delay it's now of decent likelihood that Apple updates those two notebooks as the centerpiece of WWDC for that same July/August Back To School period, might either quietly update the RMB at that time or let the RMB sit to next March when Kaby is due.

Well. No rMB announcement then?

Given Apple`s stance on the PC, hardly surprising;

“I think if you’re looking at a PC, why would you buy a PC anymore? No really, why would you buy one?” Tim Cook November 2015

The Mac is fast becoming the ugly stepchild, even with WWDC coming I have low expectations for the Mac in general, as it seems to me that the "iPad Pro" will very much be the focus of Apple`s computing prowess. The Mac may well be one of the few growing in the PC space, equally it`s very much a far second to IOS devices, as undoubtedly Apple`s margins are far greater in this area.

TL;DR Disappointed yes, Surprised no

Yeah, I was really cringing when they were badmouthing the PC. It's as if Apple 'briefly' forgot they also sell PCs.

really happy I bought mine now and didn't wait for this event

Just wait a few more days, when the Best Buy sale ends. Then the howling will really start. Congrats on your new Mac :)

No surprises here, Apple could clearly do far more with the Mac given their resources, equally keeping it just "ticking over" and still bring in revenue seems the way forward. Apple currently has little incentive to rapidly update the current Mac lineup, equally for those of us who depend on the Mac & OS X for a living a blow, not that we are Apple`s target audience for the Mac these days...

I don't think for one moment Mac`s will become subpar products, however I do believe that Mac`s will be very far from what they could have been. As a good friend of mine says "it is, what it is" I am already looking to Windows 10, running one system for evaluation. Apple`s message is clear, thankfully there are other options that can equal & exceed...

The lack of any mention on the Keynote regarding the Mac is telling, given the ageing of the Macbook Pro & Air "it is, what it is" for Apple the Mac is yesteryears product :(

They didn't briefly forget, they just ain't where they make their money. People want Apple to care about laptops and desktops like they do iPhones and iPads when the former doesn't do nearly as much for their bottom line as the latter. Foolishness.

But we knew beforehand this event would be for a new iPad and a new phone, didn't we? They already offer a 256GB iPads, that's plenty of space. With the introduction of a smaller and cheaper iPad Pro Apple will entice the developers to write more desktop-grade software. It's no more catch 22, there are gonna be loads of iPad pros out there soon. It's a smart move.

And regarding the laptops, I thing our forum buddy BJ is right, the older processors are still pushing it. We know there will be a WWDC in June, iPhone event in September, another event in October, Black Friday, Christmas discounts, rinse and repeat.

I left disappointed today, watching the event, but I'm not really surprised. Actually, if I calm down, I believe that Kaby Lake does perfectly make sense. As mentioned earlier, Skylake needs an external Alpine Ridge controller to drive Thunderbolt 3. The controller is too big to fit on that current rMB logic board, thus Apple either had to redesign the internal space, i.e. making the logic board bigger by reducing adjacent battery space or wait for Intel to integrate the Alpine Ridge/TB3 into the CPU — on die. Apparently Apple decided to do the latter, and skip Skylake due to supply chain/economical reasons.

By the time Intel has TB3 natively integrated into its CPUs, DisplayPort 1.3 and HDMI 2.0 will be ready as well. Then Apple could finally release a 5K Thunderbolt Display and the whole lineup folds perfectly: rMB with a single TB3 (via USB-C) port will work seamlessly with a 5K TB3 display, which also serves as the ultimate docking station for all cable peripherals at home/office.

You sound like youre on the right track but can you put everything you said in this post in laymans terms so i can better understand what kind of improvements the next version is getting? Thank you..

I'm sorry but I can't find this article.
I am referring to this, it doesn't say next week, that was my hope / speculation (wich likely won't be exact) but the fact that is referred to EARLY 2016 usually means in the first 4 months of the year... so basically up untill the end of April.

Ah thanks. I think you may be onto something.

No. Unfortunately you could not. The keyboard is in the way. See for yourself: Ifixit posted these teardown images, and as you can see there is no space left for additional ports. There won't be any space for the Alpine Ridge Thunderbolt 3 controller either, unless Apple redesigns the chassis, which seems to be unlikely.

When I travel place by bus I can easily rearrange my suitcase with the contents to maximize space usage. There's nothing new here that prevents 4x USB-C ports. Anything less than two is just lazy by Apple.

I am very pleased with my rMB and not planning to upgrade. I expect Skylake and new camera (that I don't use anyway) so besides the better gpu there's not much in it for me.
[...]
I manage fine with one usb-c port. I even prefer it that way because it keeps the size and weight perfect for my use.

But it would be nice for those who want, 'need' and wait for Thunderbolt, better camera and Skylake to get it. Why not???

If you're not planning an upgrade then the improvements Apple come up with to make the rev 1 look poor and long in the tooth are moot. I doubt adding a couple of ports would be noticeable to anybody weight wise.

So the 0.41" think HP Spectre is now he world's thinnest laptop, and it sports 3 (THREE) USB-C. Come on, Apple. Your rev 2 MacBook retina can easily have 4 of them so it's time to stop conning the punters with this 1 port nonsense.

Apples and Oranges. That's a 13.3" screen laptop, so it's substantially wider and deeper, not to mention over 20% heavier. Of course there's room for more ports.

Let us know when HP has a 12" laptop with that thickness and three ports.
