so I have a battery case on my 128gb 7 which gives me a full days worth of power. I can’t see myself wanting to remove the case on the daily to charge an iPhone 8 and then charge the battery Case separately as normal. Wouldn’t make much sense.

Also I’d be paying more than I did last year for an extra 128gb of storage that I don’t need (although I do need more than 64gb). Is there any point at all to upgrade for those that have a 128gb iPhone 7, don’t care about wireless charging and don’t need the extra storage?

Seems like I’m gonna spend the next month trying to convince myself why I need to drop a mortgage payment on an X when I really don’t need to lol

So....for iPhone 7 owners....any point in upgrading to an 8?

Faster processor. Slightly better camera...

So about the same point as any other year. Even the X has pretty much the same internals and capabilities as the 8, so I'm not sure how worthwhile that is from a 7 either, especially for the price.

Nope. I still have my 6s 128GB and will treat it like a raw egg. Actually thinking about hunting down another one and put it I a drawer as a backup. No improvements on the newer ones, not even more space - only basically the same phone minus a headphone jack which for musicians is still an essential.

The 8 is no improvement and the X is a joke (even bigger, more expensive, no home button, ridiculous face recognition thingy). Camera in my 6s is more than good enough. I have a real camera, so.

I honestly cannot find a compelling reason to upgrade my 7 plus 128. I feel like I'd either be downgrading my storage or having to pay more when 128 is perfectly fine for me. This would be the first time since the 3G I didn't purchase a new iPhone at release.

Yup I’d have to pay more for a 256gb 8 than i did last year for a 128gb 7, all for extra storage I don’t need.

And for $1728 CAD, the 256gb X is gonna be a pretty epic yolo if I can swing it. I’ve upgraded every year from 2G onwards but it might be the end of an era for me :(

The Fast charging on iphone 8 is enough reason to upgrade ..

50% charge in 30 min .. and 2 hours of use for 10 min charging.

in a phone? this is the most important thing. BATTERY !

That’s a massive perk but my battery rarely goes below 100% due to my battery case

and how much it takes you to charge the battery case ?

imagine you forgot to power it and you forgot to power your phone and wanted to go out ... plug it 10 minute and you are ready to go .. Fast charging isnt about having 100% or not

fast charging is about emergency when you dont have time to charge much !!!

Yeah I can't find a real reason to go from a 7 to an 8. The only real question I'm still trying to answer is whether I can stomach throwing down $999 for the iPhone X. But, if the 8 were my only option this year, this would probably be the first iPhone generation I ever sat out.

I bought a 7 plus with the intention of going to the X I don’t like that grid on the top of the screen and how video wraps around it when playing it just bugs me

I don't see much point in upgrading to the 8 if you already have a 7.

However, if you have a 6S Plus or older with less than 128GB of storage, upgrading to the 8 Plus might be a worthwhile move for a drastically better camera system, processing power and the addition of wireless charging. You're going to pay for it, though...but you also gain a phone that is two years newer than the 6S Plus (assuming you purchased it at launch).

The only time(maybe) to upgrade from 7 to 8 is if you have hardware issues. For example: i bought 7 plus..when i tried to record video there were hissing. They couldn't fix it so i went back to 6 plus.

Frankly, the whole battery question went out the window with my last BlackBerry. I still miss that thing - at the very least for business use (which is 95% emails and some text messages). It's been a giant step backwards ever since.

The jump from the 6s to 7 was significant and I don't see why many people in this thread feel that isn't the case. Water/dust resistance alone is a huge upgrade, but a better display, stereo speakers, A10 fusion, better cameras, faster wireless, better battery etc. are pretty great upgrades imo (and don't forget the 3GB of RAM in the Plus).

That being said, the jump from the 7 to 8 doesn't seem as significant. It is faster, better cameras, True Tone could be nice etc. but some other upgrades from the 6s to 7 (water resistance, battery) aren't there. I would make an exception for wireless charging, but I don't believe that is supported out of the box; you need an accessory for it.

I agree. The 8 more than less just improves on what makes the 7 different from the 6s (plus wireless charging, new look, and portrait lighting)
