Not for me. The form factor of the 8 has existed since the 6, and I am bored to death of it. A glass back won't change that for me.

I'm on the upgrade program with Verizon and have the 7 with 128 gb. After yesterdays' show, I see absolutely no reason to upgrade to the 8 or "X" phone, especially at the price they are asking for not a big deal update. Will stay with what I have.

This is what I'm trying to decide, and it seems I need to make up my mind rather quickly! I like the idea of the X only because I'd get the same screen size in a smaller phone, but I'm used to my bigger phone and don't know if I want to give it up. I likely don't NEED to go with the 8+, but if I'm making payments anyway, why not? They aren't going away regardless.

Well if you finished out your payments you would be able to sell your 7 next year for a lot more to offset the cost of the next version of the X. Vs paying the same price for the next year with the 8 and nothing to show for it (except obviously being able to use the 8 instead of the 7). You know?

It has a

Glass back
True tone
Portrait features
Better 4k recording
Better flash
Wireless charging
64gb rather than 32gb
25% louder than the 7
Faster charging

The 7 is old tech. Can't believe how many want to keep the 7. Fair enough you can't afford an X but the 8 is affordable.

Rubbish.

It has an all new glass back like the X so it's not a "7s".

I see no reasonable difference that has any real life implications.

Glass back - who cares? It's going to be in a case no matter what since these phones are too thin for normal use.
True tone - no idea even what that is
"portrait" features? The fake bokeh would have been nice - but that isn't even available (only on the de facto tablet). Otherwise there is nothing there that an experienced photographer wouldn't be doing with an iphone 5 and some postprocessing anyway. Use real cameras for everything else.
4K recodring? useless anyway
Better flash? They all suck. Mine is always off by default
wireless charging? useless
64gb? Too little anyway. And with the new model no 128 and straight 256 for more money
Louder? Maybe good for the elderly
faster charging - maybe. Even my 6s charges pretty quickly. Better battery life (in a thicker phone) would be more like it. Still can't believe that a few years ago I had a BlackBerry that lasted for a week with heavy use.
Processor? Who even notices a difference? My 5 works just as well as my 6s

Does the 8 have haptic/solid state/non-physical home button like the 7? Didn't quite like it.

IMHO the 7 looks like the value champion if compared to the 8/X. If you do not need the features of the X, you most likely do not need the features of the 8, unless you really need wireless charging and the need to use AR gaming.

Well let's see... fast charging, wireless charging, A11, better camera, true tone display... I think that's it, right?

It's a small iterative update compared to the 7, just as the 7 was compared to the 6s. I wouldn't upgrade from a 6s and definitely not from a 7. If you still have a 6, the extra RAM and processor would be pretty noticeable after all these generations. I'm not saying the new features are nothing, but the basic experience is going to be damn near identical as compared to a 6s/7. An upgrade would be to buy a new toy (not that there's anything wrong with that!), not because the 8 would allow you to do anything meaningful that the 6s or 7 can't.

I have a 7 and will wait for a year. I don't like the plus size and the non-plus 8 didn't get to dual cameras so to me it is not worth it.

I want to see people use the X before I go that route. Edge to edge displays and cases can be a problem so a wait and see approach is my strategy.

This is my first post, so go easy on me!

I have a 6, 64GB (which is perfectly adequate for my current needs), would it be worth buying an 8 or should I save my money and get a 7? I really want a better camera and the specs for the 8 are drawing me to that, but is it truly a big enough advance on the 7?

Thanks in advance.

Yes. 7+ to 8+. I'm on the iphone upgrade program. Most people are on a similar program with their carriers.

If I don't upgrade i'm going to continue making the monthly payments on the 7+. And then another year goes by and I upgrade then and start the payments all over again. Or I get the 8+ now and continue making the payments.

Either way, upgrade now or in another year, i'm still making payments. So no reason not to upgrade. Wireless charging, faster CPU/GPU and improved camera are enough for me.

Sure, I hang on to my 7 I could sell it next year. But I HATE selling phones to people locally and selling it online there's a huge loss. By next year I think the X and next years OLED phone would have killed the value of my used 7 so much it just wouldn't even be worth the hassle.

The 8 seems to be the one if at all to buy coming from a 7+ because the X is just not justifiable, at least to me. The price gap just doesn't make sense given the loss of touch ID and only a new display. Also for those on T-Mobile both new iPhones don't support the 600mhz band 71 LTE so im going to sit this upgrade out this year.

You could keep what you have and next year when you’re done with payments you don’t have to sell, just trade-in for $$. Going to the 8 now you’d have to ‘trade-in’ your phone and get nothing for it when you upgrade to the next X.

I don't think apple will take a trade in on it. I could through various stores but still not get much. I'm not worried about a couple hundred possible bucks next year.

Doesn't say with the apple finance program but rather with your carriers program. Either way a couple hundred bucks after another year isn't worth it to me. I have money.
I don't see how that would matter. Once the 24 month program is over and you have paid all the payments, you own the phone outright. So I don't see that Apple would care that you had the phone under that program. It would be just trading in a phone you own like any other I would think.

I wouldn't think it would be an issue but it doesn't specify that while it does specify carrier programs.
Either way it's just not enough of a savings for me.

That is my thoughts too: I'm already making payments so why not? 2 cons though: 1) You'll have to pay the tax on the 8 when you purchase it. 2) You will still not own the phone at the end of 12 months.

If we stick with 7 for another year we will just finish up our payments and own the phone. Then we could sell it on our own or give it away before buying the X2 or whatever it will be called. Thoughts?

Same here. I'm going to hold off until next year to get the next gen. OLED iPhone.

I have the 7 and SE and am tempted to hold on to both for another year. If anything, I would upgrade to the 8+, but I'm more interested in upgrading my Apple Watch at this point.

Just payed off my 7 Plus. Really don't see anything that would compel me to upgrade. I like the Ten but it's too first generation for me. Will definitely watch how things go in September 2018

It's worth it if you want a new device. Wireless charging is going to be a big deal in the near future, so it might be worth it for that alone.

But, if you aren't completely sure of it then I wouldn't do it: it's an expensive purchase and the leap spec-wise isn't as good as it could be. It's why I didn't upgrade to the 7 from the 6s, but next year's device would certainly be worth it for you as two-year upgrade cycles makes sense.

But, in short, don't upgrade a phone every year unless you have the financial stability to do so!

lol @ having to shell out $100 or so on a fast charger and a usb C cable to take advantage of the fast charging feature
