Some posts indicate that retention issues might increase over time, so I don't feel like provoking it. But I've run the retention test for five minutes a couple of times, without the slightest hint of any retention. I've run several dead pixel tests, with no dead pixels showing up. And when it comes to light bleed and color consistency, this is by far the best screen I've used, including two unibody MBP's, three MBA's and a couple of pretty expensive external Samsung screens.

I have yet to see a flawless screen. But this one's the best I've seen so far (even compared to some pretty high end CRT's back in the days, except when it comes to black levels).

And yes - it's an LG.

Just ran mine through the various tests I use for all LCDs.
LG LP154WT1-SJA1

Dead/Stuck Pixels: None

Backlight bleed: Minimal leak at the top, given the menu bar is generally up there I am not concerned.

Image Retention/Persistence: Ran a few tests, none.

The bleed isn't enough to play the exchange game, the machine is pretty close to perfect.

Just got it today.

then test it again please in a few days and let us know if image retention does not show up!

still no IR.

I have an LG, & my screen is working perfectly. I just did that checkerboard app test (posted from a few pages back) & its an A+ screen :)

Today my replacement rMBP (2.7Ghz./16gb./764gb.) came in. Let me start by saying it is funny how the mental state mindset tricks you and how we get biased by what we think.

When I start up my macbook, I was blown away by the perfect and egal white. My former macbook retina (with Samsung screen) had a slight purple tint on the white and appears to be a bit harsh and cold on the eyes at times. I was convinced since this screen looks so good it must be the samsung! Then when I saw the Galaxy wallpaper, I saw more details in it which I've never seen before on my former MacBook Pro Retina. So already sure this must be the Samsung, time to check the Termianl comand.

what!!!!!! No way this could be an LG!! but it is. I stated before on other topics (when I had the Samsung screen) that I always felt the LG screen has better contrast and whites, and now owning an LG myself it is confirmed. Little details like the texture in the gray array from the Safari Tab Browser on the top shows up I have also never seen before.

Also I get less eye strain and headache with this "calmer" screen.

the LG AH-IPS are superior screens and therfore used in many professional monitors. There is one downside though. I have to give more brightness to gain the same brightness level as the Samsung. But that is the only downside I can find. The LG looks more natrual to my eyes then my former Samsung.

However I don't ingore the IR complaints and I will keep a very close eye on this the coming 14 days. Since I do CAD design work, there will be a static toolbar in the screen instantly. It is a good real life daily use test. I will check regulary on a white background for any IR.

Further. My replacement finally has a good aligned bottom plate with not creaking, flexing and cracking.

However as usual with Apple product, there isn't a "perfect" machine. And you gain some good points at the loss of other points. Unfortunately the machine came with the trackpad a bit missaligned on the right side. However as OCD as I am, I don't going to return the machine for this. The fact and problem is, I have work to do. I have sold my former 17" cMBP and all I had left was my 11" MBA. It was a **** to do serious design work on this (other wise perfect and very capable) machine.

However if I sense any point of IR then it will go back in a heartbeat.

So far I love the quality of this LG screen. Godthank no dead pixels and no lightbleed. (My former Samsung rMBP had dead pixels. Just occur after 10 days).

I don't know anything about the recent serial numbers and/or code. Can you guys tell me if I have the "latest" LG?

Conclusion. If there is no IR on your LG screen isn't in any way inferior to the Samsung. I might even dare to say the AH-LPS is better in contrast and whites then the Samsung LPS.

Received my rMBP replacement yesterday. LG screen again, build week 36.
IR was much worse than my replaced unit where IR was visible after 15 min.
Now it show after only 5... went for a refund and gonna sit on my money until the next release :(

I didn't have a problem with my LG screen until recently, did the image retention test again and it showed after 5 minutes... Got my rMPB on 22/06, hopefully I can get it replaced.

Honestly, it really amazes me that Apple uses different manufacturers to produce essential components like screens. LG does not have a great reputation when it comes down to tv's, phones etc. These are just crappy products. In my experience (and I think a lot of other people as well) LG is a pretty unreliable manufacturer so it doesn't really surprises me that the majority of these 'broken' panels were actually made by LG. The difference between Samsung and LG in terms of the quality of their screens is night and day.
I will never buy an LG tv for instance and if my rMBP got an LG panel I would return it instantly until I got one with a Samsung screen.

Mine was fine for 6-7 weeks, it just started,.. I have a 2.6Ghz with 16GB of RAM and it has a LG display.

My issue exactly. It was flawless since day one, and all of a sudden, it started happening, and badly. Swapped for a new model, Samsung screen this time. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I had the screen replace 3 week ago and now i have IR again.
LG screen BTW.

Three rMBPs, all LG, all IR. The first was the worst IR, the second screen was salmon-hued and very dim + IR, the third time, I've just decided to move on and live with IR; at least the display is nice and bright again. As long as I don't use the darker wallpapers (stay away from the galaxy default, for example), I rarely see IR too bad. The exception is when I switch to a dark app, like spotify, then I can see whatever I was working on before.

Apple, what can I say? I don't feel the same way about you I did a few months ago. But what am I going to do? Switch back to Windows??

I just witnessed the TV shopping channel QVC moving iPads for $1,069.00 each. They're flying off the shelves for that price.

Pablo Escobar couldn't turn cocoa leaves into profit of that magnitude.

Apple couldn't care less whether you have ghosts on your laptop screen. They make crazy money selling toys on TV shopping channels.

Did they just changed the whole MBP or did they just replace the screen?

They swapped the machine for a brand new model.

Something else to consider... Unless this was happening from day one, they MAY opt to repair and not swap out. My Apple support tech on the phone more or less talked me into saying I had issues out of the box. Just something to consider when you decide how you're going to move on it.

SO, some advice for anyone having issues, call Apple Tech Support FIRST. Tell them you've had the issues from day one, and now it's much worse. This will likely get you the swap instead of the repair.

Called them this morning, they are not going to replace it as I have it longer than 14 days,..

Hopefully they can replace it for a samsung screen :/

I really hope I get a LG Panel display Retina when I order my Retina after Christmas of this year. I truly want Apple to sort out all the bugs by then. What do you all think will it be resolved by end of December of this year? I never like buying any new technology off the shelf right away. I am looking forward to purchasing my Retina Mac Book Pro......

I don't know how true this is, but some are saying over on the Apple support forums that Apple has decided this:

Now to the BIG NEWS!!! He [EDIT: senior level Apple phone rep] contacted the Apple store for the repair job. The store person told him that I should get a brand new replacement because ALL NEW RETINA MACBOOK PROS WILL NOW HAVE SAMSUNG SCREENS. NO LG SCREENS FROM NOW FORWARD!!! Was I ever relieved! He took my info and will be calling me to set up my swap for a Samsung retina macbook pro fully loaded.

It sure would be nice to have some actual verification of this. My brain is all queued up to get one of these puppies, but my wallet is still stuck on this IR issue.

LG screen BTW.

Thought I was on Reddit for a second. Nice job.

If you're in the 14-day window and have IR, don't bother telling them that. Just return with any made-up reason and repurchase.

The Applecare guys on the phone completely agreed with me, for a computer that is this expensive I needed to get a good one, not one that need to be repaired within 2 months. They are going to replace it, I really hope it's going to be one with the samsung screen now, don't want another replacement again! :/ In about a week I know what it is. :)

I had an LG first, colors are better out of the box than the Samsung, didn't experience any IR. I returned in order to get the 16GB of RAM, now have a Samsung. It's also great, just less saturated. All good here, really.

I just received my THIRD replacement a few days ago (first had dead pixels, second became way too hot, third had really bad IR), this replacement also had the IR out of the box (and a big scratch above the keyboard), and of course it was an LG screen. :(

They are going to replace it again a last time. I really hope it's a good one now, otherwise I have to send it back and they will send me my money back. Really annoying as I just want to have a good machine, I can't work on my creditcard. They told me to buy one in the shop, but they somehow don't understand that the 2.6Ghz/512/16GB is not sold in the "offline" applestore :/
