Tell it to set a timer then press home or lock to shut it up.
This is a decent workaround, thanks! Now I have a tool to try. I'll probably get into the habit of doing that.
And I appreciate the fact that you offered a far far more useful suggestion than the previous ten pages of "Why in the world would you want to do that?!"

I think that's great that you love Siri and her remarks and I think you should be able to enjoy her to the end of the earth. I'm glad Siri gives you joy.

But many of us want a way for us to turn Siri comments off, while preserving your right to have her to your hearts content. That'd be a win/win!

If Siri is that big of a deal to you, do not use it! Simple enough!

I doubt most mind and many smile at her comments. Like many things in life, you sometimes do not get your own way.

How you deal with this is up to you!

This is one of my all time favorite threads, listening to the intolerant even makes me smile!:p

I also think that it should have a decent option to turn off this nonsense. It is simply not funny if you hear the exact same remark over and over.

It’s gotten worse with iOS 11 and I see no way to turn this off. I totally agree with you. It’s a waste of time. Just give me the info I asked for and shut up. The same applies to commenters on threads. ;)

How about getting an apple watch? There's no commentary when you set a timer on the watch :)

Is there any way to TURN OFF Siri's STUPID comments?

I am using an iPhone 5s (iOS 8.0.2) .. I use Siri pretty much all day (setting timers mostly -- helps keep me on task).. I am SO SICK of listening to all of Siri's STUPID ******** COMMENTS every time I use this function..

When setting a timer:

"oh the suspense is killing me"
"some stupid ******** ***** about a good iphone doesn't boil over"
"roger that"

When my GF asked Siri where the closest tanning salon was:

"It's not good to be overdone"

ARE YOU ******** KIDDING ME? I get that Apple is trying to be "edgy" and "cool" and "hip" but commenting on someone's life choices is not Apple's place..

The rest of the things I mentioned are just plain annoying.

I would like to use Siri, have it do what I ask, not throw in some stupid comments after everything I do.

Is there a way to disable that aspect of it or is this yet again, another design flaw by Apple?

What’s even more frustrating is when she thinks I’m making a joke and just gives me a snarky response without actually doing what I ask. (Unfortunately I can’t think of an example right now, but it drives me nuts when it happens).

It’s also frustrating when she gives you an answer but it’s not the answer to the question you asked:

I guess we all have different tastes. I *wish* my Siri would joke around and give me snarky answers. Mine is pretty much a "just the facts" robotic-type Siri. She just does what I ask with no added remarks or commentary.

Though occasionally when I say "Thank you", she says, "Why thanks Joe". So at least that is something. ;)

You can not turn it off, so if it bothers you, do not use Siri.;)

Most do not mind her comments others lack a sense of humor.:)

No, I'd like to use Siri, but without the stupid comments. I thought I made that pretty clear, as did several other people.

You like those comments. I don't care.

So the answer is "no", there is no way to turn off those comments from Siri. That's a shame.

As mentioned, you can keep Siri active, but silence her.

Yes, you have different tastes. Most people do. That's why there are "options" with software. Unfortunately, Apple is insisting we hear Siri's inane comments.

I'm getting three Echo Dots for the house this Christmas. They are $49 a piece. It will be interesting to see the differences with voice. I own nothing but Apple products in my house so I have no experience with Echos. Fingers crossed.

Are you referring to the feedback option? She still gives you feedback if you use Hey Siri, which is how I use her.

But I don't want to silence her feedback. I want that feedback that she set a reminder for me on Monday 1 pm to take the trash out, etc. I want to hear that she got it right as I'm driving my car, cooking in the kitchen, etc.

I want the feedback, but I don't want a joke or how cold it is, etc.

I want options.

Thanks

I find the "humor" inane and the added commentary like "brrr, it's cold" insulting as if I wouldn't realize that on my own. Time and place for everything and a personal assistant acting that way in a serious setting would likely get fired. All the added commentary does is waste my time and sometimes leave me annoyed particularly when the comment is on a misinterpretation of what I asked and comes across as mocking. Apple has chosen to make this un-configurable. I have chosen to not use Siri, this is one reason among many.

I *DID NOT* say it was a flaw.

The problem is that it should be customizable.

It's called an "I" phone.

so "I" should be able to turn that **** off if it's bothering me.
The "i" in iPhone does not mean you or me. The "i" is for "internet".

While customizability is helpful, it's not always available. Until it is, you either learn to live with it as it is, or don't use the feature that annoys you. Ranting in a forum won't get you any closer to the solution you seek. It's a phone. There's no need to get emotional about it. Surely you have more important things in your life to obsess about?

Seems like that user hasn't been around in about 2.5 years at this point.

This thread is a dumpster fire of stupidity.

OP, learn you're lesson and don't ask questions here.

I agree with the OP. In the middle of the night, I'll say, "hey Siri, what time is it?" Instead of saying, "3:41am", she has to say some stupid crap like "The time is 3:41 am. It's far too early for me to be awake." The reason I ask her is so I don't have to look at a bright light in the middle of the night. I wish she would just say, "It's 3:41."

We need an option called Terse Siri.
