As I wrote earlier, I have never seen "Snarky Siri" make an appearance on my phone.

I do have a working theory though. I never say, "Hey Siri" or "Siri, could you do..blah blah blah.." I just never say the word "Siri". I just ask it to do something and it does.

Do any of you who are getting these extraneous comments start by addressing her as Siri before making the request?

I give Apple a lot of credit for being so clever. Knowing how young boys get such a thrill farting and hearing their friends fart, they approved loads of fart apps for the iPhone early in its history. This made Apple extremely popular.

Then in a stroke of genius Apple created Siri to amuse, entertain, and also be functional. The adults fell for this, are captivated with "her"... Apple brags, looks like the smartest company ever, which is quite true.

Their years of superb marketing, combined with a little Barnum and Bailey smoke and mirrors entertainment, and here we are, Apple has everyone captivated.

With a massive amount of cash and Pro Apple press, they're unstoppable.
Yeah, because otherwise iOS and iPhones and iPads are in reality devices that don't really do anything and people can't really use them for anything. /s

And that can read your messages or send messages or set up reminders or make calls or start timers or use various other features in the phone?

----------

Siri should say extraneous things when it makes sense (like to answer a question like "what's the weather like today?") and not when it's simply told a command to do something (like start a timer).

These are various ways of confirming that timer has been set lol

How else would you know the timer was confirmed??

So basically people are just mad when Siri confirms the timer has been set.

Is there any way to TURN OFF Siri's STUPID comments?

I am using an iPhone 5s (iOS 8.0.2) .. I use Siri pretty much all day (setting timers mostly -- helps keep me on task).. I am SO SICK of listening to all of Siri's STUPID ******** COMMENTS every time I use this function..

When setting a timer:

"oh the suspense is killing me"
"some stupid ******** ***** about a good iphone doesn't boil over"
"roger that"

When my GF asked Siri where the closest tanning salon was:

"It's not good to be overdone"

ARE YOU ******** KIDDING ME? I get that Apple is trying to be "edgy" and "cool" and "hip" but commenting on someone's life choices is not Apple's place..

The rest of the things I mentioned are just plain annoying.

I would like to use Siri, have it do what I ask, not throw in some stupid comments after everything I do.

Is there a way to disable that aspect of it or is this yet again, another design flaw by Apple?

How about just "done" or at most "the timer has been set" or something very literal, simple, and to the point along those lines?

I just asked and it said. Ok. I set it. Just remember: A watched iPhone never boils.

Roger that. T-minus one minute and counting.

It just adds variation. If it said the same thing every time it would be voice control.

For some things "variation" simply isn't needed.

What's actually more ironic is that Siri offer's too much "information" with some of her quirky comments, and then often - not enough information for other things.

For example, I'll tell Siri from my BT headset, "Set an alarm for 7:15am." And she'll reply "OK, I turned it on."

What? What did you turn on? How can I know you turned on my 7:15am alarm when you don't tell me what it is that you turned on?!:mad::mad:

I bet the OP is fun at parties.

I love Siri getting a little "crazy" sometimes. I work is a tough business environment sometimes and a smile is always a nice break.

Just imagine the abuse that Siri has taken from some of us while drunk or "lonely". You are lucky she talks to some of us at all!

I think all of us have different tastes in so many things, from food through cars and comedians. And sometimes, when people don't like what we like, it's easy to get insulted and angry because, say, he's stupid enough to dislike black coffee and prefer it with cream. Or we like to customize our computers or phones to work best with our own brains. This is not really to offend the people who like it the usual way, or who like Jimmy Fallon over Jimmy Kimmel. It's just they like things a little different.

Thus, I mean no offense when I add that I, too, am looking for a way to turn off Siri's comments. They simply don't work for me! I believe in choices! I'm hoping there's some app that will satisfy the few of us who like things a bit off the beaten track.

Does anyone know of such an app?

Thanks!

And alternative to Siri (like Google Now, for example)? Or something that would change how Siri responds (which isn't really something that exists as far as I know)?

Well, I'm committed to iOS. Seems that so many iOS standards can be affected by an APP. Well, I'll keep looking and I appreciate your kind answer!

The only way I've found to turn off Siri's "maybe funny the first time" quips is to go to Settings>General>Siri>Voice Feedback and select "Handsfree Only."

The timer works, and can hear alert sounds. I also still get the information I'm looking for. I just have to read it instead of listening. But for me, it's worth it.

Just because you don't like it doesn't make it a flaw...

Get some new material or come back…saw that you replied with the same response you gave to another person who is frustrated with the FLAW of not being able to manage/change/stop that which doesn't work for me-and not me alone. What flaw is in YOU that causes your flippancy? Answering a legitimate question with a flawed, non-helpful dig, just makes you look like an idiot. I won't be coming back to see your-sure to be rude-answer #2.

That's exactly what you said. You gave two possibilities, either there is an option to disable that aspect or it's a design flaw. Your words.
Hope someone can be helpful. What is the option to disable?
I understand that many people love this feature, yet some of us love our iPhones but not this feature. I'm a big believer in choices, and I choose Apple, but I'd love to turn this off. Choices make a product stronger!

Just asked Siri to turn my 6:15 am alarm on and she did so without any quips. We have an understanding. She doesn't talk back or make jokes and I won't drown her ass. It's working out nicely. Keeps things professional.
