What's being asked about isn't about the whole feature itself, but some of its functions that aren't central or important to what feature provides.

The feature is Siri and with it comes some amount of "personality" to give a bit of a human touch. The features being discussed can all be used without Siri.

They can all be used in the same way (with voice commands) without Siri?

I remember this thread!

I regularly use Siri to set timers for cooking and the only response I've ever seen has been "Okay. xx minutes and counting."

Give me a break. Voice command has been around for ages and people don't use it. People use Siri. Guess why?
So is that a yes or no? The question is whether or not same things can be done the same way without Siri (as that was suggested as the solution to the original issue that was brought up)?

Why do I need to provide an answer you already have? Just adding my thoughts. You don't have to agree, but I bet most agree the tone of this thread is a bit over the top. I'm glad I'm not subjected to folks like that on a daily basis.

I'm trying to see if perhaps I'm overlooking something. As far as I know disabling Siri won't allow for most many features it provides to work through similar voice control. Which means disabling Siri isn't really a solution to the issue that was presented.

I understand that all of you posters hold those of us who have different ideas in utter contempt. I get that you like everything as-is and thing that everyone _should_ like things exactly as they are and that you feel we, who feel differently are utter losers and that you are superior beings and that you get your thrills by showing each other how big you are an how inconsequential. We bow to your superiority.

Now, is there anybody in the macrumors community that is grown up and decent enough to help us without pissing on us and without insulting us in a gang bang.

How can we choose to turn off the quips without turning off Siri. How can we choose things that are different from what you like.

The feature is Siri and yes you can turn it off.
Thank you but what I want is the option to turn off the comments? I would certainly like that feature. For instance, I'd like, when I ask for the time, for Siri not to respond "you woke me up" "way too early" etc.
Apple has many developers working on many choices throughout, and I, for one, would like to turn off comments, while still having Siri say, for example, "it's 5:08 am"

The only way I've found to turn off Siri's "maybe funny the first time" quips is to go to Settings>General>Siri>Voice Feedback and select "Handsfree Only."

The timer works, and can hear alert sounds. I also still get the information I'm looking for. I just have to read it instead of listening. But for me, it's worth it.
Thanks so much for a civil response. I use Siri with my earbuds, but I'll give it a try.

So now my Iphone is Jewish?
I asked it "Siri, what time is it?"

it's response was,
"It's 4:47 PM. Happy Hanukkah! Wishing you lots of latkes!"

I happen to not be religious, and I really didn't appreciate my phone blurting out anyones celebration, for any reason. I didn't ask what obscure religious holiday it is, I just asked for the time.

I am also frustrated with the smart remarks that my phone gives me when setting a timer or creating a calendar event.

I vote for a toggle to shut off all of the smart-ass-ed-ness.

Once in a while a professional buys one of these phones, and tries to use it as a tool... It is disruptive "behaviour" when the tool starts back talking.

Wow. Just tried this and go the same exact response. I think this is inappropriate no matter if you have a religion or not.

Hm, ok, well it's not listed in there so that rules that out. o_O I hadn't open Calendar on iOS 9 to begin with so I was wondering if that had anything to do with it.

It's not doing anything other than stating the exact time; (I haven't done the latest update to 9) -I can't help to wonder if caught it and disabled additional comment. Perhaps they picked up on a bad online reaction. Which would of course be hilarious because it would mean they DO have a way to turn her (Siri) off!!!!

I *DID NOT* say it was a flaw.

The problem is that it should be customizable.

It's called an "I" phone.

so "I" should be able to turn that **** off if it's bothering me.

Actually you did say it was a flaw. Read your last line of your original post. You can also turn Siri off if you don't like it by going to Setting, General. Easy peasy, problem solved.

Seriously?

One hopes that the people unhappy about this have actually taken the time to send feedback to Apple instead of bitch on a forum which will do no good no matter how many people do it.

I need to subscribe to this thread for the sole purpose of entertaining myself with the rants from the humorless crybabies here. Does Siri use the most sophisticated humor? Of course not. Could most of the tasks Siri does be done without additional commentary? Yup. I just don't see what it's hurting though. If your life is so serious that a lame joke from a virtual assistant is a big deal, you need to take a step back and reprioritize your life.

I wonder how sensitive I'd have to be to actually be bothered by Siri telling me to have a happy InsertReligiousHolidayHere? It's all in good spirit.

Coming from an Android, I'm noticing that a lot of the "problems" I see people bring up don't really seem to be problems at all. It almost feels like people look for things to complain about.

One example would be, I saw somebody post about his songs not showing the "E" for explicit symbol after you click to play the song, and the album art is showing.

He posted 4 screenshots. One screenshot of the song in Control Center, and the "E" was showing. One shot of the song in the lock screen, and the "E" was showing. One screenshot of the song listed in the Music app's library, and the "E" was showing. Then, the screenshot of the song opened up in the Music app, and the "E" was not showing. I checked one of my explicit songs for him, and confirmed it was the same for me. I would have never even noticed something like that, much less seen it as an issue.
