Everyone calm down. If you want help creating a case if you have NEVER been a AT&T customer, message me, I can help. You can still get your iPhone unlocked without being a current or former AT&T customer. It will only cost you your time. I won't do it for you but I can help.
Okay so I have a few iPhones to unlock since I've bought a few used from ebay and CL and such. I should note that I am an AT&T customer. I got one replaced by Apple and submitted the IMEI for unlocking about 11 days ago. That case still shows as not yet done. I did that one by saying that I do not have an AT&T account since I have like 6-7 to unlock. I don't have much hope for this one since they keep saying it has been pushed back and also because of what I have been reading on this forum.
I got another replaced by the apple store and submitted the IMEI yesterday and DID tell them my account information. I got a generic email saying that the case has been resolved and I did a restore and I got no such "congrats" screen. But the thing is, the iPhone IS unlocked. I have a T mobile sim in it right now and it's catching the signal just fine.
I called three times yesterday, the first two reps I got I told that I don't have an AT&T account and they shut me down right away (Get this, the one rep said that the 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPhone 4s use three different kinds of sim cards and that I need to contact apple for unlocking. Maybe I shut her down).
Anyways the third guy I got I gave my account info to. He was super friendly and told me that even those without an account will get an unlock. I gave him the IMEI for my iPhone 4 and got that generic email today and I'm unlocked.
I hope this helps but I got a question...does AT&T limit how many iPhones you can unlock? I had seen that there was a 5 per year limit but the guy informed me that no such limit exists, just that I'd have to call for each iPhone. Any ideas?
If you bought it used, ask the seller for the phone number that was tied to it. I haven't used the phone number method, I faxed in a fake proof of purchase to AT&T and they bought it lol. Any cases that were created before the new policy do not need to provide the phone number that was tied to it. They're basically cracking down on thieves who steal iPhones and then want them unlocked. There is always a way around AT&T's bs, you just have to think.

I'm in the same situation as you. So basically when you get the "resolved" email the iPhone is unlocked?
Yup. I got another one done today. 5th one or so. My question is though, are they really sticking to 5 per year per account? They mentioned that on my last call but a tech support advisor that I had before said as long as the iPhone is eligible, then you're fine. I hope this is the case since I've helped a few people out with this process.

Although it's worth mentioning that I haven't yet received the "congratulations" screen on my macbook. I only got that on my windows pc. Didn't even have to restore in fact, it just appeared. The 3gs I got done today looked like it was trying to show that screen but we all know how itunes and windows don't like to play together. Anyways, it was unlocked as well.
If you don't have a SIM Card, the easiest way to tell is under settings, general, then about and under carrier it should just say "12.0." If it says AT&T 12.0 then you are not unlocked.
Hi, guys so after waiting for like 2 weeks, my unlock request for my iphone 4 was denied today by email. It says
Thank you for contacting AT&T Customer Care about unlocking your iPhone.
We are unable to complete your request at this time due to the following reason(s):
Invalid or no mobile/account associated with request.
The funny thing is that the first thing I said to the ATT customer service girl was that I 'm not a current ATT customer and she said it doesn't matter as long as the imei is not tied to a current ATT account. I bought the phone off eBay and my imei was clean according to ATT so I'm at a loss why they rejected my unlock. Is anyone having the same problem as me?

Hey guys, just an quick update on my situation. I got that message in the quite above two days ago.Today, I got another email from AT&T with the PDF attachment of "Completing Your Authorized iPhone Unlock." I did not contact AT&T in the past two days cuz I had to take a couple of finals and I called them today after receiving that email. According to AT&T , my unlock request still says denied in their system and she didn't know why I got the unlock email. Unfortunately, I won't have access to the phone until next week. So, is there anyway I can remotely check whether or not my phone has been unlocked?
they asking me for reciept please show me an example
At&t policy has changed now no more free unlock. If you would like to have someone do it for you in guaranteed time check out http://www.gsmfast.net they unlock all iphone 4 and 4s from at&t network to factory unlock specifications in just a few days.

I really think it's the Rep. you get on the phone/chat...I had a friend who did 15 and they flagged his account. So whenever he calls and mentions "Unlock iPhone" they're quick to say, NO!" lol
we get them in a 1-3 day period buy we pay for ours and resell them but if there is a free method id be willing to know how to.

Wtf? I just received this email from AT&T today:
"Thank you for contacting AT&T Customer Care about unlocking your iPhone.
We are unable to complete your request at this time due to the following reason:
- No valid current or former mobile/account number associated with request.
Please click the following link for AT&T's General Eligibility Requirements for Unlocking iPhone.
Thank you for your inquiry.
Sincerely,
The AT&T Customer Care Team"
I don't understand why I got this?? No I am not a customer, never have been, but my case had already been fulfilled and when I restored in iTunes I got 'congrats you're unlocked' pop up. Do you think they would reverse an unlock...?
----------
Wrong. I am unlocked and my carrier says "AT&T 12.0"..But thats probably because I'm on H2O
i got 2 email one saying unable to unlock and another one saying you case have been resolved, just wondering what it means/Thanks

If youre unlocked youre unlocked, theres no way AT&T would reverse an unlock.
I just got an email:
Dear Customer:
Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding your AT&T service. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. The issue has been resolved.
Should you have any further needs regarding this issue, please do not hesitate to call us at 1 800 331-0500 and reference the tracking number shown above.
Sincerely,
AT&T
And nothing else. Wtf?
i also got this email and right next was the email stated above that no mobile number associated with it bla bla! i dont know what are they trying to do!
tried restore , now lost the SAM unlock tooIt means you were denied the unlock. You can still be sure by checking www.imei.info if you got the unlock eventhough you were denied. Happened to some users but I doubt AT&T will be passing out unlocks after a refusal sent via mail.
you had an iphone earlier which was
"sim locked: NO"
Did you try and activate it?
