Anybody get an AT&T sanctioned Unlock?

This was my experience however something odd happened.
After 3 days I got an e-mail from AT&T that stated that I was not eligable for an unlock.
The phone still is unlocked. Maybe I just got lucky.

actually i did pay almost 800 ... at best buy here is the information of the ihone

BTW, you really don't want to be posting your IMEI number on the web so freely.

Anyway, your post says it IS activated (May 5) with ATT. But since you paid $800 (which is too much for a 4 (not 4S) with 8Gb), it is out-of-contract and you can get it unlocked with ATT or even Apple.

Since it is activated, you should have an ATT phone number. Use that to create an on-line account with ATT and then use on-line live chat to get a case number for unlocking.

There is so much 'fishy' about your postings...not everything is adding up, IMO.

Well, whatever, if you paid an unsubsidized price for the phone, you fulfill any obligations you have with ATT and can easily get it unlocked.

i finally got hold of att they told me that the iphone cant be unlock because it was purchase and never was activated they told me to activate it for at least 4 months then they can unlock it


where it says its activated that day i actually did the first upgrade to the iphone thats the only explanation i got as that day i did a full factory reset with the newest software.. thank you all for your patiance. but al li can do wit hthis iphone its wait till a software campatible with BASEBAND 4.12.01 :( other than that use it as an iphone i guess.

Just letting you guys know. I requested an unlock for my iPhone 4 that was purchased off of eBay. AT&T took my information and said I'd be contacted in a week or two. Entered my imei.info and it said I was unlocked. Put in a tmobile sim card and it was working!! Don't give up!
 
Why would anybody buy an AT&T iPhone off contract from Best Buy, Target, etc, when they could just go into the Apple store and get a factory unlocked one for the same price?

Nowadays yes anyone can just go to the Apple store and buy the unlocked iphone. But Apple didn't start selling unlocked iphone since April or May of last year so anything before then is locked even when purchased off contract so thus people are requesting an unlock.

They unlocked 2 of my unactivated, brand new iPhone 4s. Although.. I had to put T-Mo sim and activated them in order to be sure it's unlocked..
 
Not making any promises here. But I've done a few factory unlocks using my AT&T account and I'm just curious as to how many more they'll let me do. I have no need to unlock anymore (had a few phones lying around). I'm not going to get crazy, but I'll try 3 just to see what happens. For the first 3 (THREE) IMs i get, I'll try those. Be patient, I'm not at home right now (at work) I'll have to try them tonight when I get home, we're talking 6-9 hours from the time of this post. So, if you're reading this after noon (EST), there's a good chance that 3 people have responded. (ONE per IM, thanks) I'll keep everyone posted. - cheers! p.s. please make sure you guys submit IMEIs from FORMER AT&T accounts, left in good standing! Yeah, I know. I just joined the forum today. Just found out about this forum.

All the ask me for was the imei number from the purchased eBay phone, then asked me if the phone had every been activated on the AT&T account. If you have a friend or anyone you know with a AT&T account and service ask them if they'd let you use their information. In my case, my best friend has AT&T and allowed me to use his.

You should talk to the guy a couple of post above, he said he will be able to help at least 3 people. Send him your imei and see what he can do

Because not everyone has an Apple store within a reasonable distance from them. That's why.

This is the poster whom I was referring to, it may be to late but you can still try.
 
I must be the exception. AT&T unlocked my iPhone 4 (I now have a 4s, the 4 was inactive). They claim it is unlocked. I never got the confirmation email. Didn't get any iTunes message that would state my phone is unlocked. Tmobile sim does not work. AT&T claims they've done everything by the book. Applecare doesn't handle unlock cases. What now???
